2 2018 SA Road Championships - President s Message I would like to welcome all the competitors, officials and spectators to the 2018 South African Road and Time Trial Championships being hosted in Oudtshoorn. Our Eden Cycling Association under the auspices of Western Cape Cycling has grown tremendously over the last few years and by hosting these National Championships they once again confirm their status as a thriving cycling region. The Eden Cycling Association, under the leadership of Corné Bence, has hosted many events and are continually developing and growing our sport. Their efforts have been rewarded with the many accolades they have achieved over the past few years. It is therefore fitting that these 2018 National Championships take place in a region very committed to the growth of our beautiful sport. I look forward to a great Championship and know that the competition will be of the highest standard as riders go in pursuit of the coveted Championship jerseys and medals. In addition, the Championships will be ideal preparation for our riders for the upcoming 2018 African Road Championships in Rwanda and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. The Championship also give our youth the opportunity to mix with our top riders, further fuelling their enthusiasm for our sport. So it is a great event with competitions for all the age groups across genders, allowing for a great celebration of cycling with the many stars gathered and the budding champions soaking up the experience as they continue on their journey for higher honours. I would like to congratulate and thank all involved in making this event possible - the sponsors, National Lotteries Commission, Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Oudtshoorn Municipality, Pedal Power Association, Eden Cycling and all those who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver this fantastic event. Cycling South Africa supports your efforts all the way and we will continue working together to help grow and develop our beautiful sport. To the riders I say go out there and do your best while enjoying the sport. Take time out to enjoy the hospitality of the Eden community and to explore the region. 3 Welcome Message from Western Cape Cycling Association On behalf of Western Cape Cycling Association, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the riders, spectators, managers, parents and officials attending our prestigious South African Road and Time Trial Championships in Oudtshoorn. It is indeed an honour for us to be associated with and involved in organising such a prestigious event. This will be the 3 rd time Oudtshoorn was chosen to host this event and we will try our best to make it a memorable one. Without dedication, commitment and sacrifice, this event would certainly not have been possible. The local organizing committee needs to be commended for all of their efforts. I would also like to thank your sponsors and other supporters within the community and cycling industry at large without your much needed dedication, support and input things would certainly not be as successful as they are. We are privileged to have the Oudtshoorn Municipality on board as a sponsor and partner. These kinds of partnerships are hard to find in this era. Wishing you, the participants, all off the best for this week's championships! May the wind always be at your backs and may you soar to new heights of achievement and excellence. 4 VENUE AND GENERAL INFORMATION Registration for the event will take place at the SWD Cricket grounds, under the big pavilion, Voortrekker Road, Oudtshoorn on Monday from 14:00-17:00 and from Tuesday to Saturday from 06:00-17:00. No registration on Sunday GPS co-ordinates for the registration venue is , in Voortrekker Road. Voortrekker Road is the main road from Johannesburg and Cape Town. For those travelling from George Voortrekker Road is the one at the 1 st Traffic light in the centre of town. Parking during the event will be available at the back of the SWD Cricket stadium in Vrede Street, as well as, on the Oudtshoorn High school field next to the SWD Cricket grounds in Vrede Street. We urge participants and spectators to park in Vrede Street. This will minimise people having to cross Voortrekker Street where the racing will take place. At the venue there will be ablution and shower facilities as well as hospitality area by Brians Grill where food and drink could be purchased and includes breakfast in the morning. Brians Grill is also one of our sponsors and riders can also support them at the restaurant in Baron Van Reede Street. The prise giving will take in the hall under the pavilion. On the grass area next to the hospitality area there will be space for riders to set up but be reminded that there is little shade so bring a gazebo along if possible. Riders will not be allowed to use the area under the pavilion next to registration. Roll in, weigh in and jig measurements for the TT will take place between the pavilion and the cricket field. All participants to take note that a R150 refundable deposit will be charged for the race number set that include two body numbers and a frame number. For those who do not have a Mobii chip will also have to pay R150 refundable deposit for the chip. Bring your chip to registration to enable us to check the chip s battery and link the chip, if necessary. Please make provision to bring cash along for the deposits.
