Rushmoor Neighbourhood Policing Newsletter - June 2015 Your SNT Management team are Insp Olga Venner, PS Kevin Futers, PS Jamie O Brien and PS Debbie Barnes Welcome to the latest edition of the Rushmoor newsletter month ending May I am pleased to report that the number of thefts from unlocked cars that have plagued Rushmoor for the last couple of months has started to dry up, but don t become complacent. Thieves are always looking for an easy opportunity. Ensure your cars are always locked and you don t leave any valuables on display. This month I would like to talk about bicycle security. Rushmoor has had an increase in bicycle thefts, my colleagues from the British Transport Police advise me that it is their most prevalent current crime committed on their premises. Aldershot and Farnborough Main have been targeted despite being covered by CCTV. British Transport Police have had so many bikes stolen that they now offer FREE D-Locks to any customer who has any season train ticket (monthly, quarterly or annual) just trevor.willis@btp.pnn.police.uk and he will arrange to supply you one. Most bicycles are mass produced so all contain the same colours, stickers, and features but the serial numbers are unique 1) Locate your serial number on your bicycle and make a note of it somewhere safe. 4) Buy a good quality lock which has the Sold Secure logo. PC Dave Carpenter or PCSO James Charlton will sell you a ABUS Ultimate 420 D-Lock & Loop Cable for the cost price of 20 if you them at Rushmoor.police@hampshire.pnn.police.uk It is critical that once you have your chain or D-lock that you always lock your bike to something solid. Many public areas provide bike stands but consider railings, lampposts etc. Visitors to Farnborough stores may have seen our bright yellow display bicycle showing the correct method of securing your bicycle to a static point using a D-lock and loop cable to ensure it is where you left it when you return to it. When you get home put your bike in the garage or shed and if possible secure it to a ground anchor or some other large article that will make life difficult for a thief to cycle away. There are lots of other security measures to suit any wallet which may help get your stolen bike back such as UV Etchings, trackers, smart water and marking compounds but nothing beats a good quality chain or D-lock to stop it being stolen in the first place. PS K FUTERS 2) Take a photo of your bike. 3) Register your bike with a company such as immobilise.com or BikeRegister. The Farnborough Market has also moved from Princesmead Car Park to the centre of the town in Queensmead and has attracted many more stalls as a result of the re-launch. The current beat priorities are: Burglary: 3 incidents of dwelling burglary have been reported this month. 2 of the incidents are connected and Police are continuing lines of investigation into these. A BMW Mini was seen at both incidents and Police are looking for any information relating to this. Vehicle Crime: Anti-social vehicles in car parks: No further reports of vehicle related ASB this month. Police will be in the below locations giving out crime prevention advice and products. We will also be promoting Hampshire Alerts, the new way to keep up to date with what s going on near you. 30th May hrs - Princesmead 3rd July hrs - The Meads shopping centre outside the new Vue Cinema. 21st July hrs In the new Market, Queensmead. APPEAL FOR WITNESSES - CRIMINAL DAMAGE (ST MICHAEL S ABBEY, FARNBOROUGH) Police are investigating following several criminal damage incidents at St Michaels Abbey in Farnborough Road, Farnborough. During the evenings from May 6 to May 8 a group of youths have accessed the estate and caused damage by throwing bricks at the historic leaded stained glass windows and hand carved oak doors. if you have any information regarding this incident please ring us on 101 and quote RMS P a g e 2

FARNBOROUGH NORTH (Fernhill & Cherrywood Wards) Your SNT team are PC Mark Ranola, PC Andrea Shoetan, PCSO Gordon Pengilley, PCSO Mitchell While, PCSO Nilam Rai. The Team were invited to Abercorn House to join in with their VE celebrations. It was a great afternoon enjoyed by everyone. Thank you for your hospitality and making us feel so welcome. There's been an increase in the amount of reports of off-road motorbikes being used in Hawley Woods. Your Neighbourhood Policing Team have been working in partnership with the Area Safety Marshall to tackle this issue. Two riders have been given formal warnings as a result of the investigation. If they are involved in similar incidents in the next 12 months, Police will seize their vehicles. I'm pleased to add there's not been any theft from motor vehicles this month. Reduce burglaries. This month, we have had 1 reported distraction burglary on 21st May 2015, in Prince Charles Crescent. An elderly female was targeted by an unknown offender. The suspect stated he was there to take an electric meter reading. It was later discovered that cash was stolen from the address. If you have any information please contact us quoting ref: Don't open the door to anyone before you've checked who it is - look out of the window or use a spy hole in your door. If you open the door, keep the chain on while you find out who is calling and what they want. If you're not expecting someone and you don't know them, don't let them into your home, no matter what they say to you. If a caller is genuine they will understand your concerns. If someone claims to be from a company, such as a gas or electricity provider, always double check their identity. For further crime prevention advice please click on the following link: Reduce vehicle crime. Four reports of damage to vehicles. Two suspects were identified as being involved in one of the incidents which was resolved by payment being offered for the damage. Tackle anti-social behaviour in Pinewood Park, Totland Play Park, and Fairfax Road. ASB is considerably lower than April with only 14 incidents reported throughout May. 6 of which refer to neighbour disputes. Speed Watch. Road Traffic Offences Sandy Lane and Cherrywood Road. Checks in Sandy Lane resulted in, 131 out of 236 vehicles checked, were recorded travelling above enforcement speed limit. This is over 50% and the issue is now being taken up by our Roads Policing Team. On Cherrywood Road, only 4 vehicles of the 71 checked were travelling above the enforcement speed limit. Don t forget beat forums are held with Police and local councillors on the first Saturday of every month between 10am - 12am at the Fox pub, Chapel Lane. Come along and ask about issues that are affecting you. APPEAL FOR WITNESSES - ASSAULT (MOOR PARK, FARNBOROUGH) Were you in Moor Park recreation ground in Cherrywood Road, Farnborough during the morning of Sunday, May 10? Did you see an assault taking place? Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a man sustained a serious but not life threatening injuries during the incident, which happened at about 7am. The victim, a 25-yearold man from Aldershot, was walking in the park when he was approached by a man who is known to him. The offender then assaulted the victim and ran off. If you have any information regarding this incident please ring us on 101 and quote RMS P a g e 3

FARNBOROUGH SOUTH (Knellwood & St Marks Wards) Your SNT team are PC Mark Hoban, and PCSO Jenni Lawrence This month we are sad to report the departure of PCSO Matt Tulett (photo) who is moving on from this role. He will be joining Thames Valley Police as a Police Officer and we wish him the best of luck in his new role, we re sure he ll enjoy the new challenges before him. This month we have seen an increase in cycle thefts, specifically from Wavell School. Whilst some of the cycles were locked, some were not, making them even easier targets for the thieves. The investigation continues in to all the thefts and we will hopefully have a positive update for you next month. One attempted burglary and one burglary have taken place this month, the former in Lynchford Road and the latter in Corfe Way, thankfully nothing was taken in either case. This month you may have noticed an increase in police presence in the Queens Road Recreation area. This is due to reports of cannabis use in the vicinity. This is a matter we would like to address to reassure the residents in the area. If you have any information in relation to this matter, please make contact with the local beat office on 101. Summer is just round the corner and with the warmer weather we can expect anti-social behaviour to increase, we will be bringing back Op Jacobsen to combat this by targeting the hotspot areas and make the areas as undesirable as possible. Cycle Theft. We have had five thefts of pedal cycles this month. As mentioned before some of these were left unlocked. We are planning to carry out a cycle coding event at Wavell School to register all bikes to make them easier to give back to their owners if found. If you want to register your own bike, or any other property you can create a free account on We are still selling sold secure D-locks for 20, so if you are interested in obtaining one rushmoor.police@hampshire.pnn.police.uk. Speeding. Our SpeedWatch volunteers continue to monitor speeding on local roads. At the time of writing no vehicles have been caught speeding. Burglary. High visibility and plain clothes patrols are continuing to be carried out. With the warmer weather approaching, we are reminding residents to keep their windows and doors locked when leaving the house, even if it s just to go in the garden. One burglary was reported on Corfe Way, though nothing was stolen. Party in the Park 11th - 12th June, King George V Playing Fields. P a g e 4

FARNBOROUGH WEST (Cove & Southwood Ward, St John s Ward & West Heath Wards). Your SNT team are PC Lee Jeffers, PC Neil Prescott, PCSO Lisa Atwood, PCSO Michelle Curtis. During May 2015, Farnborough West saw a spate of burglaries at the beginning of the month and the end of the month. We had a total of 4 house burglaries and 3 garage burglaries. With the support of our response teams and again information from Neighbourhood Watch responding to our crime alerts, 2 persons have been arrested in connection with 2 of the house burglaries and 1 person is being investigated in connection with 1 of the garage burglaries. During the warmer weather do not let your guard down and remember: Keep ground floor or accessible windows and doors shut and locked in room not in use. Remember to lock up properly before going to bed. If you are taking the opportunity to do some DIY to the house, don t leave ladders and tools out. Make sure you lock side or rear gates into your garden. If you are having a barbeque party in the rear garden, don t leave the front door open for guests to let themselves in. If you are going out for the evening, use a timer switch to turn on the lights during darkness. If you are doing some gardening, don t leave expensive tools lying around unattended. Secure your garage with a device similar to a garage defender. Develop Neighbourhood Watch across Farnborough West During May 2015, Farnborough West has activated new a NHW scheme in Maple Avenue, Mulberry Way and Silver Birch Way. Canvassing is due to start shortly for a new NHW schemes in Comfrey Close and The Lawns and canvassing is well under way in Kingfisher Close. Farnborough West currently has 145 NHW schemes with 3276 members. If you have not already done so, please register with Hampshire Alerts Nuisance vehicles in the Southwood area. During May 2015, there have been no reports of any vehicle nuisance in the Southwood area. It has now been 3 months since our last report of nuisance vehicles on the Southwood Business Parks. We have now been informed that the local businesses have employed 24/7 security patrols. Criminal Damage and Graffiti in the alleyways and footpaths running from West Heath Road. This issue has been raised with the Rushmoor Borough Council contracts team and who will be arranging for the removal of the graffiti from all public furniture and will approach local home owners to discuss the removal of all other graffiti from fence panels. We are currently waiting for a response from Rushmoor Borough of when this will take place. During May 2015, there were no further reports of additional graffiti or Anti Social Behaviour in the area. Speedwatch: On 20th May 2015 there was a Speedwatch operation planned for Minley Road, but this was cancelled due to the current road works. On 21st May 2015, Speedwatch checked the speed of 285 vehicles on Fleet Road and recorded the details of 10 vehicles travelling above the enforcement speed. Another Speedwatch operation is planned for 28th May 2015 on Southwood Road, but the results are not available at the time of writing this entry. Your Neighbourhood Policing Team will be holding the following surgeries each month: 1st Saturday each month, 10 am to midday in the restaurant at The Plough & Horses, Fleet Road, Farnborough. 1st Sunday each month, 10 am to midday in the café at Morrison s Supermarket, Links Way, Farnborough. 3rd Thursday each month, 3 pm to 4 pm at The Partnership Building, rear of Whetstone Road Shops, Farnborough. P a g e 5

ALDERSHOT NORTH (Wellington, Town Centre & Rowhill Wards). Your SNT team are PC Samantha Adcock, PC Daniel Eaves, PC Charlie Dugdale, PCSO Marie Park, PCSO Treeshna Rai, PCSO Durga Thapa. TO FOLLOW TO FOLLOW TO FOLLOW The town centre continues to go through its re vamp and lots of road works and the relaying of some pavement in union street is soon to be finished. The Aldershot neighbourhood team patrolled the town on VE Day and joined in with the celebrations. Skunk works has reopened on Victoria Road and the team continue to monitor ASB linked to this area. Homelessness continues to be an issue within the town centre and the neighbourhood team continue to work with Rushmoor Borough Council, The Vine, homer and other organisations. As a multi agency approach we continue to tackle any issues and offer support to those when required. We have seen an increase in the number of burglaries on the army quarters of Aldershot, residents are advised to ensure all property is left secure over night and when not home. ASB Aldershot town centre. Anti Social behaviour and street drinking - This is something we continue to you tackle and since April 2015 and under section 35 of the Anti-social behaviour and crime and police act, Police have dispersed approximately 15 people from the town centre and leading to five arrests for failing to disperse. Police continue to deal with street drinking and Anti social behaviour robustly and are seeking banning orders for the most frequent offenders. MEET THE TEAM event will take place in Union Street, Aldershot on 27th June 2015 from PCSO Marie PARK and PCSO Phil PITKIN will be there to offer crime prevention advice and will be giving out lots of freebies. P a g e 6

ALDERSHOT SOUTH (Northtown, & Manor Wards) Your SNT team are PC Karen East, PC Sarah Hill, PCSO Oli Walker, PCSO Phil Pitkin, PCSO Laura Steer. TO FOLLOW Now the weather is improving and people have been using their bikes more we have noticed an increase in thefts of pedal cycles. We would like to remind you to secure your bike with a good quality lock, securing the frame to an immovable object such as a railing or lamp post. It is also worth while purchasing a lock that has a cable that allows you to secure your wheels. With the warmer weather it is also important to ensure that your house is secure with windows closed and doors locked even if you are only leaving the property for a short while. We have executed two successful drug warrants in the last month and have been assisting our town centre colleagues with anti social behaviour caused by street drinkers. Due to the dissolution of The North Town Partnership and the fact that there is currently no group in place to replace it we have been unable to set any Beat Priorities. We are currently working on a way of using Survey Monkey to set the priorities and we hope to be able to update you on the progress of this next month. We will continue to monitor ASB hot spots and any areas of concern raised by members of public. Come and meet members of your local Neighbourhood Policing Team on the 27th June in Union Street between 11am and 2pm The soccer at 6 scheme which is run by Aldershot Towns Football in the Community scheme is due to start in May. This year there are two venues on our ward. Aldershot Park is going to be held every Tuesday and every Thursday it is going to be held at Manor Park starting as of Tuesday 5th May. They are a pay as you play session from 6pm 7.15pm. P a g e 7
