Public Transport BUSES TRAINS Concessionary Fares Scheme Bus passes English National Concessionary Fares Scheme - Bus pass scheme for use on public bus services. Available to those who have reached pensionable age or have a disability. Holders of a pass can travel free of charge after 09:30 and for a small charge before 09:30

2 Home to school Transport Transportation of students to and from school based on a national statutory criteria of eligibility Community Travel Clubs A transport services that is specially designed for an individual or a group of people. Examples of community travel clubs are: luncheon clubs, college clubs, older people groups, dance schools etc The journey can be to wherever the group would like to travel J Independent Travel Training A training scheme to help people travel more independently. The training starts at a training centre, like the one above, and then moves onto an actual journey that the trainee will use regularly, such as going to school, college or work

3 Safe on the move in Hartlepool and Tees-wide Safe Places scheme Safe on the move in Hartlepool and the Tees- wide Safe Places scheme are a network of venues designed to offer a safe place to people as they travel around the Tees Valley. There are a number of shops and buildings were staff are trained to offer support, guidance and assistance to anyone who feels vulnerable or needs advice during their journey. The schemes are supported by the 5 Tees Valley Local Authorities, Cleveland Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner What other transport related areas do the Council look after? Taxis The Council issue licences for taxis to operate, check that the vehicles roadworthiness and monitor the services being provided, to ensure they are suitable for customers needs

4 Blue Badge Scheme This is a National parking scheme for those with mobility problems to enable them to get closer to buildings and facilities Road Safety The Council provide and work with a range of partner organisations to deliver a variety of road safety training, including: Road Safety Awareness Training Practical Pedestrian Training Bikeability Cycle Training Bus Behaviour Training Seatbelts/Cycle Helmets/Be Safe Be Seen Awareness Campaigns. 5 Highway and Transportation Management The Local Authority are responsible for providing a safe and sustainable transport system and set out how they will deliver that in their Local Transport Plan The plan considers the longer term local transport strategy and the delivery plan which sets out what will be delivered over a four year period The Plan also aims to meet seven shared priorities for the delivery of public services Raising standards across schools Improving the quality of life of older people and of children, young people and families at risk Promoting healthier communities and narrowing health inequalities Creating safer and stronger communities Transforming the local environment Promoting the economic vitality of localities Meeting local transport needs more effectively And five other transport related priorities: Delivering accessibility Tackling congestion Safer roads Better air quality Other quality of life issues

6 Other helpful services Connect Tees Valley is an online journey planning and transport information service for the Tees Valley area. The site provides information on buses, trains, taxis, walking, cycling, driving and flying in realtime Traveline Information Ltd is a partnership of transport operators and local authorities formed to provide impartial and comprehensive information about public transport. It operates in Scotland, England and Wales. NextBuses NextBuses is a mobile internet service which makes it possible to find bus times on your mobile internet enabled phone. iphone, Android and Windows Phone apps are also available. With the NextBuses service you can select a bus stop close to where you are in Scotland, England or Wales and for that bus stop find the next bus times. Traveline-txt If you can't get the NextBuses service on your phone you can check the next buses from a particular bus stop by sending the bus stop code in a text. The bus stop code may be displayed on the bus stop flag or in the timetable case. To use the service, simply type the stop code as a text message - and send it to (except in Yorkshire where it is 64422). The message you send will cost your normal text message charge. In some areas the reply will be free of charge. In most areas the reply will cost up to 25p.
