5 Welcome Welcome to Thames Valley Science Park a lively community of ambitious, knowledge based companies just off the M4 corridor at Reading, close to Heathrow and London. Here you ll find cutting edge laboratories together with modern, flexible office space within a relaxed, campus style environment. The amenities such as the café, breakout spaces, meeting and workshop areas, provide a vibrant community space in which to work. The location of the Science Park, surrounded by the countryside of South Reading, provides opportunities for recreational walking and cycling. The purpose of the Travel Plan is to minimise the negative impact of travel associated with the Science Park on the local environment community and economy. The overall objective of this Travel Plan is as follows: To implement measures within and around the Science Park site so that the majority of employees and visitors have the option to travel by sustainable modes of transport. The aim is to encourage a better quality of life for employers, employees and surrounding residents as well as improving the environment and enhancing the local economy. This will mean providing for and encouraging alternatives to the use of the car.

7 The Management Team Thames Valley Science Park (TVSP) is committed to the effective management of car travel to and from the Science Park through promoting and encouraging the use of alternative, more sustainable modes of transport. The Science Park has appointed a Travel Plan Coordinator (TPC) to oversee the implementation and monitoring of the Travel Plan. This travel champion will help facilitate the travel plan measures and incentives and will be available to answer any questions you may have. 9 TVSP Location Less than 30 minutes to Heathrow, and with fast road and rail connectivity to London, Thames Valley Science Park sits at the heart of Europe s largest cluster of high-tech businesses. Thames Valley Science Park operates across two locations. Our Science & Technology Centre and Reading Enterprise Centre are on the Whiteknights Campus in the heart of Reading of Reading and our new Shinfield Campus is around two miles away and adjacent to the M4 just south of Reading. Enhancements to the local transport network have been progressed in advance of the opening of the Science Park, including the Shinfield Eastern Relief Road and significant local bus service improvements through the wider South of M4 Public Transport Strategy. This will in turn provide fast and frequent, direct bus services to the centre of Reading and rail station.

11 Walking Walking is one of the simplest, easiest, and cheapest ways to get around. This is particularly true of Thames Valley Science Park. You will find good quality, direct and well lit pedestrian routes are provided throughout the Science Park as well as off site connections to local facilities. Comprehensive pedestrian links have been delivered alongside the Eastern Relief Road to link the Science Park to Shinfield and South Reading including a number of new signalised crossing points. Walking can often be combined with other modes of transport for part of the journey, e.g. bus or train. In this respect, the Science Park has its own dedicated bus stop located at the entrance roundabout which provides direct public transport links to Central Reading. 13 Cycling Cycling to the Science Park is easier and safer thanks to the introduction of the off-road cycle route along the Eastern Relief Road, linking into dedicated facilities at Black Boy Roundabout and north along Shinfield Road. Having reached the Science Park, cyclists can safely store their bicycles in the bike shelters being provided on site. Shower and changing facilities are available in the majority of buildings. As part of our ongoing commitment to encourage sustainable travel and a healthy lifestyle, Thames Valley Science Park is running a series of regular Cycle Maintenance events giving occupiers the opportunity to have their bicycles serviced for free. We also work with My Journey Wokingham to offer occupiers free Cycle Confidence training. Details of such events will be posted on the TVSP website and on the noticeboards located throughout the Campus. 15 Travel by Bus Public Transport can be more convenient, quicker, and cheaper than travelling via car and provides environmental benefits too. Car journeys contribute a significant amount towards our overall carbon footprint. The new high quality bus service being delivered provides direct connections to central Reading and onwards travel via the town s rail station. Bus priority measures introduced along the Shinfield Road and A33 corridors ensure fast journey times, even during rush hour periods, and buses are equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and charging facilities. Click here to the TPC to obtain a FREE one-week bus ticket for use on the 10A service which serves TVSP. The 10A service provides direct bus travel between Reading Station and the TVSP Shinfield Campus Frequent direct bus service to central Reading and the rail station, starting early in the morning until late evening. 17 Travel by Rail Reading Rail Station benefits from being a nationally significant rail interchange. It is the second biggest railway interchange in England outside London and caters for approximately 17 million passengers per year. It forms a national hub with frequent and direct rail services operating to Central London, the South Coast, Midlands and North as well as to Gatwick and Heathrow international airports. The station has in recent years benefitted from a 400 million improvement, significantly reducing delays at the station and robustly supporting delivery of the timetable. The station area has a number of shops, facilities and places to eat and the wider area surrounding the station is undergoing significant public realm improvements. Regarding services and destinations, the station will soon enjoy the benefits of both electrification and Crossrail. Our travel plan measures include: Provision of a direct, 30 minute frequency bus service between TVSP and Reading Station. 19 Travelling by Car A number of improvements have been undertaken to the local road network in advance of the Science Park opening to ensure additional trips can be accommodated. This includes works at Black Boy Roundabout, including the new M4 overbridge, and of course the Shinfield Eastern Relief Road. If you do need to drive to work, why not consider sharing your journey with somebody else! Car sharing can provide significant financial, social and environmental benefits. Anyone travelling to, from or within the Wokingham area can sign up to the My Journey Wokingham Car Share Scheme. Its free to join, and further details can be found be clicking this link. An alternative to owning a car is use of a car club, which provides access to a vehicle if and when needed. A local scheme, operated by Co-Wheels has vehicles available in the centre of Reading and Wokingham. Speak to your employer regarding flexible and home working opportunities.
