3 District 6: Authority-led Activities -Roadway Rehab (SFMTA) Yerba Buena Island (YBI) Ramp Improvements Reconstruct existing on and off ramps at the Yerba Buena Island interchange at US I 80; (Total Cost: $87 million; funding: TIDA, Prop 1B Seismic Retrofit and Highway Bridge Program) Authority leading environmental studies through construction on behalf of Mayor s Office of Economic Development In final design/right of way certification phase Schedule dependent on Navy land transfer to City SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 3

4 District 6: Better Market Street Better Market Street Led by DPW, Authority is contracting agency for multiagency design team Focus on developing near term repaving project with added urban design, transit performance, pedestrian safety and bicycle facility features Public workshops occurred in June/July Outreach continues with BMS Popups in Sept/Oct. 5 District 6: Authority-Led Activities Transit Enhancements Van Ness BRT EIS/EIR Highest ranked Small Starts project in nation for cost effectiveness; Top performer in MTC s 2013 Regional Transportation Plan performance evaluation; Locally preferred alternative (Center BRT with Right Side Boarding and Limited Left Turns) conceptual engineering refined; design exceptions prepared for Caltrans review Final EIS/EIR to be released by end of year, certified in early 2013 Total expected cost: $125 million. $45 million in federal Small Starts funding already programmed; $10 million recommended in President s FY13 budget Visit: for upcoming outreach SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 5

9 District 6: Bike Projects (SFMTA) 2 nd Street Streetscape Project from Market Street to King Street (Planning) DPW is leading overall streetscape project Repaving, road diet, new curb ramps, landscaping, street furnishings, pedestrian and bicycle improvements between Market and King Streets Two community meetings (May and Sept. 2012) and October presentation to Plans and Programs Committee Anticipated legislation by June 2013, design completed by June 2014, and construction June 2014 to June 2015 Total estimated cost $10.5 million; Design and construction funding proposed from OneBayArea and Prop K SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 9

10 District 6: Bike Projects (SFMTA) Bicycle Facility Implementation McCoppin Bikeway (Construction) Project completed September 28, 2012 San Francisco Bicycle Network Improvements (Design) McCoppin Bikeway Between Gough and Valencia Streets District 6 locations include Market & Valencia intersection and Polk St (Market to McAllister) Polk includes 4 foot median between contraflow lanes and nearest vehicle lane, bike signals, restriping angled parking to back in angled, roadway restriping and curb ramps Polk expected to be legislated by SFMTA in December 2012, start construction in early 2013 Funded by multiple sources including Prop K, Prop B street bond and 2011 Safe Routes to Transit SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 10

11 District 6: Bike Projects (SFMTA) Market & Valencia Streets Bike Improvements & Gap Closure (Construction) Prop K and TFCA funded Accommodate left turn and close gap in bike network to create 2.3 mile bike lane Delays to coordinate installation of granite curbs with Market and Haight Street Transit and Pedestrian Improvements Construction starts October 2012, ends in early 2013 SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 11

12 District 6: Pedestrian Safety Projects Tenderloin Community Safe Routes to School (Design)(SFMTA) In the vicinity of Tenderloin Elementary School at Van Ness Ave &Turk St Construct bulb outs and curb ramps; upgrade traffic signals and crosswalks; install pedestrian countdown heads and advance stop (bar) lines. SoMa Alleyways (Design)(DPW, formerly SFRA) Improving 6 alleyways Minna St, Natoma St, Tehama St, Clementina St, Shipley St, and Clara St Design complete by December 2012 & project completion by September 2014 SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 12

13 District 6: Signals and Signs Projects (SFMTA) SFgo Franklin and Gough Streets (Construction & Procurement) Traffic signal controllers & cabinets, traffic signal interconnect, fiber optical cable, conduits, and transit signal priority software Improvements at Bush St, Fell St at Franklin St, Franklin St, Golden Gate at Gough St, Gough St Construction on Gough St is complete; Design on Franklin is 97% complete Advertise construction in November 2012 SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 13

14 District 6: Signals and Signs Projects (SFMTA) SFgo Van Ness Corridor (Design & Construction) New traffic signals, mast arms, pedestrian countdown signals, audible pedestrian signals, variable message signs, traffic cameras, and fiber optic communications network Van Ness Ave between Lombard and Mission Streets Project will be coordinated with Van Ness BRT, construction to start fall 2015 Emergency Vehicle Priority System at Existing Traffic Signals at Tenderloin Polk Street between O'Farrell and Broadway and Post between Polk and Kearny Streets SFMTA currently reviewing bids to procure equipment Project completion by December 2012 SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 14

15 District 6: Transit Rehab (BART) Powell Street Station Water Intrusion Prevention (Construction) Designers continuing review of waterproofing repair materials BART anticipates design completion in December 2012 and completion of construction in January 2014 SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 15

16 District 6: Transit Rehab Escalator Rehab (SFMTA) Phase I (Construction) Replace 5 highest priority escalators in Muni Metro system, including down escalator at Hallidie Plaza (done Sept. 2012) and up escalator (under construction) Overall project to be done March 2013 Phase II (Design) Includes: Hallidie Plaza West (2 outdoor escalators), Van Ness Station (2 platform escalators), Powell Station (2 platform escalators), Civic Center Station (2 platform escalators), and Montgomery Station (2 platform escalators) Construction to start January 2014, end June 2016 SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 16

20 Citywide: Bike Projects (Air District/SFMTA) Regional Bicycle Share Pilot Led by Air District with multiple regional partners including SFMTA, VTA and Samtrans 1,000 bicycles at 100 kiosks along peninsula transportation corridor 500 bicycles at 50 kiosks in San Francisco Pilot: months; earliest deployment date is early 2013 About 4 month delayed due to project management and procurement challenges Total cost about $7+ million, including Bay Area Climate Initiative, Prop K and more SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY 20
