Allegheny Mountain Chapter Newsletter Volume 1 / Issue I June 1, 2017 The best alarm clock is sunshine on chrome. ~ Author Unknown Welcome to my first Summer Newsletter and to the beginning of riding season! To introduce myself, my name is Glenn Lynch. I will be generating the Allegheny Mountain Chapter s Newsletter moving forward. I would appreciate your help with articles, pictures, or any miscellaneous information that our motorcycle community should be aware of. I am open to your ideas, and would like to know what you would want to see in our newsletter. This newsletter is for our chapter community, and I would love for the community to help me in this endeavor. Please me at panhead_48@comcast.net with anything you would like to be included in the next newsletter which will be coming in September.
President s View Members and Friends, Many thanks to Glenn Lynch for volunteering to resurrect our Allegheny Mountain Chapter Newsletter. Glenn will be trying a new format which will emphasize our Chapter activities with many photos and some descriptive text. We hope that all members will feel free to not only submit photos taken on Chapter rides and events but to submit photos and a short narrative about their own motorcycles. Of course, Glenn would welcome any article and photos from members relating to their own riding experiences or restoration projects. We are planning on four newsletters a year. The success and continuation of the newsletter depends on member input. Although Glenn will be the editor, he will need your help to complete each newsletter. The Allegheny Mountain Chapter is starting its 13 th year as an AMCA Chapter. Most of our Charter Members are still with the Chapter. Thanks for your loyalty. We started as riding Chapter and riding continues to be one of our main goals. Thanks to all our members who have volunteered in the past to sponsor a ride. We have several rides and events scheduled for Thanks to Jason Zerbini for assuming the role of event coordinator and communicating the schedule to our members periodically by . If any member wants to sponsor a ride, picnic or event, just let Jason know by at jzriv@winstream.net. We will be updating our Chapter website amcaamc.org soon with new photos and officer and Board Member information. Thanks to Gary Palombia, our webmaster, for maintaining our website and for all his past efforts to keep the Chapter newsletter active. Although we will use photos from the newsletter on the website, please feel free to send photos to Gary also. We have 140 names on our list. Many of you have been receiving s for years but have not joined our Chapter. Although we will continue to send you s about Chapter activities, I would like to personally ask you to join the Allegheny Mountain Chapter. Our dues are a very affordable $5.00/yr but you must first join the AMCA if you are not currently a member. You can join the AMCA by logging on the website at antiquemotorcycle.org and fill out the application online for a fee of $ Aside from being a part of the Antique Motorcycle community, you will receive six issues of the best magazine devoted to old bikes. Well worth the cost. You can then join the Chapter by logging on to our Chapter website, print out the membership application and send your check payable to the Allegheny Mountain Chapter to Treasurer Joe Baird at the address on the application. Please join. It s a lot of fun and camaraderie. There is a lot of knowledge about old bikes in our Chapter with members eager to answer your questions and help with your old bike project. Thanks again for listening. Ride safe and see you down the road
Richard Chapter Meeting Our Spring Chapter Meeting was held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Giannelli s restaurant. Thank you to all who attended this meeting. A nice attendance helped in discussions of the new board, payment of dues, and finalizing road runs and miscellaneous events. Our new board for this riding season is: Richard Spagnolli, President rspagnolli@aol.com Todd Mikinak, Vice President tmick55@gmail.com JoAnn Spagnolli, Secretary Joe Baird, Treasurer Baird.jp@gmail.com Board Members: Jason Zerbini, Event Coordinator jzriv@windstream.net Bill Huber, Director Glenn Lynch, Newsletter Editor panhead_48@comcast.net Justin DeRiggi, Director Gary Palombia, Webmaster Webkahuna@amcaamc.com Blessing of the Bikes/ Westmoreland County Ride Thousands attended the Murrysville Alliance Church s annual blessing of the bikes on Sunday, April 23 for the 21 st consecutive year. This event offers prayers of safety for bikers and their
families. Next year Murrysville Alliance Church is having the event again on Sunday, April 15, A special thank you goes to Joe Ferri who provided his bar, Joeys the Edge, as the meeting place for this event, and provided our crew with drinks and doughnuts. Following the blessing, we took a ride throughout the countryside of Westmoreland County.

Evans City/Butler County Ride Allan Osterwise graciously hosted a ride on May 13, 2017 which started at his home in Evans City. Evans City is located in a valley surrounded by hills and beautiful landscape. Allan and his wife s beautiful home couldn t have been a better starting point. A stop on Main Street, Evans City allows for an impressive display of vintage motorcycles.
Bill Hubert s barn find, a.k.a, Old Stinky Indian was a favorite of spectators. He owns a 1947 Indian Chief.

We continued our ride through the beautiful Northwestern Pennsylvania scenery to Foxburg where we stopped for lunch at the Allegheny Grille. Allan picked the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal with friends. The Allegheny Grille is a log cabin-esque restaurant overlooking the Allegheny River. Our group enjoyed window seating which allowed views of the river, trees and mountains. Upcoming Events / Save the Date Rock Run II Sunday, June 11, 2017 This 2-3 hour scenic ride will be hosted by Todd and Sandy Mickinak. The meeting place is 305 Unity Cemetery Road, Latrobe, PA The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the departure time being 10:30 a.m. sharp. There will be a picnic lunch at the conclusion of the ride. The Syria Motor Corps Chapter bike show and poker run Sunday, July 9, 2017 Dick Stemmler will be sponsoring this event with details to come. Brews, Bands, Bikes Show August 5, 2017 This event will be sponsored by Paul Greenwood with details to come. Steam Show in Brownsville August 12, 2017 SPONSOR IS NEEDED!
Whiskey Rebellion Road Run August 20, 2017 This event will be sponsored by Glenn Lynch. The route will be in Southwest Pennsylvania and Southeastern West Virginia. There will be a lunch stop at Dover s Inn (built in 1848) located in Wellsburg, West Virginia. Be looking for more details to follow! Mods and Rockers September 2, 2017 SPONSOR IS NEEDED! Please help spread the word for our organization. Post events on you Facebook accounts, and talk with other antique motorcycle owners. We encourage all our members to be active within our organization. Showcased Motorcycles Moving forward, each newsletter will showcase a different bike. If you would like to see your motorcycle in our newsletter, please forward a picture of your bike along with a brief description of your motorcycle and why it is special to you. Please don t forget to include the year, make, and model of the motorcycle. All pictures and descriptions can be forwarded to Glenn Lynch at panhead_48@comcast.net. I will start the showcase with a picture of my 1948 Harley Davidson Panhead. I found this bike in 2002 at Eagle River, Wisconsin. I searched out this bike since it was the first year Harley Davidson produced the Panhead. This is a rare find due to the fact that the Panhead was only manufactured by Harley Davidson from 1948 through 1965.
I also cherish my 1941 Harley Davidson ULH Flathead. I found this bike outside of Chicago, Illinois. Long story short, I m lucky to have it. Harley Davidson only produced only 722 of these civilian bikes due to the war.

Fun Fact Did you know that The Fonz (Henry Winkler) couldn t actually ride a motorcycle because of poor coordination which was a symptom from his dyslexia? Quote for thought Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead. ~Mac McCleary
