2 Introduction Under the supervision of bodybuilding and fitness federation of Slovenia ( in short: FBZS- IFBB), 2nd MaXXimum Open International competition, is going to happen on 5th of October in city Maribor in Slovenia. MaXXimum Open, which has been first organized in year, is becoming a international competition the aim of which is to invite competitors and special guests in order of influencing of development of bodybuilding sport and fitness in Slovenia and region. The host of MaXXimum Open - International competition, under the bodybuilding federation of Slovenia, is mr. Gasper Grom, President of FBZS-IFBB. Location Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia. The city s development was, is and will be determined by its geographical position on the juncture of roads connecting Central Europe with Southern Europe and Western Europe with the Pannonian plain. Due to its distance of just 18 km from the Austrian border, Maribor represents the gateway into the country as well as to the Balkans. This favorable position makes the city a cultural and economic center of the north-eastern Slovenia. The history of Maribor is marked by periods of good and bad fortune. For a long time the town was small and unimportant, until the 18th century, when it gradually started growing and gaining in importance. The first industrial revolution in the 19th century transformed Maribor from a calm provincial town with a population of traders, craftsmen, clerks, solders and just few aristocrats into an economically developed and lively city. However, until 1918 Maribor was administratively a part of the Duchy of Styria with Graz as the capital and couldn t get out from under the shadow of this Austrian city. The conflicts between the Slovenian and Germanspeaking population during the period of the Slovenian national awakening also had a negative influence on the development of the city. The city of Marprog, which is the adapted German name Marburg, deriving from the medieval Marchpurch meaning a castle in a bordering region, was also given a new name during this time. Stanko Vraz was the first to mention it in 1836, in a letter to Ljudevit Gaj. The new name had two connotations; mar meaning eagerness and carefulness and bor, which stands for fighting. The poet and politician Lovro Toman eternalized the name in the poem Mar i bor (eagerness/carefulness and fight). During the constitutional time after 1861 Maribor became the Slovenian political, economical and cultural centre of Styria. After the First World War, when a new country was founded - the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes the city grew into an important administrative center of

3 the north-eastern Slovenia with several cultural and educational institutions and a new industry. Despite that, the city couldn t withstand the political and social conflicts characteristic of that time. During the Second World War Maribor suffered great losses. Many Slovenian intellectuals and other opponents of Nazism were exiled, the resistance movement in the city was suppressed; hundreds of freedom fighters and hostages were shot. Furthermore, severe damage was caused by airplane attacks. After 1945, when the city was liberated, the former citizens returned from exile or the army; the destroyed city needed to be rebuilt and revitalized. And the revitalization was to be achieved through industry. For many years Maribor was one of the leading Yugoslav industrial cities. However, this had a negative impact on the future of the city, since it was developing only in single direction. This narrow development consequently led to a crisis in the nineties, when Yugoslavia fell apart. Once the biggest factories had to close down, people became unemployed and started leaving the city; the city life was brought to a halt. Time, ambitious goals and visions, a strong will and a fighting spirit brought life back to the city and opened new avenues for development. In 2012 Maribor holds the title of the European Capital of Culture and in 2013, the city of Maribor will be the European Capital of Youth. The city proved once again that eagerness and a fighting spirit are truly a part of its name as well as its character. Hotel accommodation All delegation which need to stay overn ight or need to come earlier, should contact FBZS- IFBB President or the Organizator for arranging hotel accommodation for their teams. Organization of the competition and tentative schedule Arrivals of national federations All national federation arrivals are day before the competition, or on day of the competition.

4 Venue site The competition is held in Festival Hall Lent, Maribor. Capacity of the hall is about 1000 spectators. International judges All national federations should apply names of IFBB International Judges from their federation in the Final Entry Forms according to the Amendments to the Rules. All IFBB/EBFF International Amateur Judges must be in possession of a valid Judging Card. Official language The official language is Slovenian, but English is widely used in hotels, shopping and sports centers, tourist areas. Time difference The time in Maribor is in CET+1. Currency The official currency in Slovenia is EUR (Euro) Passport / Music All competitors must provide their passports and music (on CD, with one track) at weigh-in.

5 Tanning The IFBB has banned all tans that can be wiped off. An official will check the tan of all athletes backstage a n d if the tan comes off by simply wiping, the athlete will be told to remove the tan before going on stage. Weight-in and measurement of athletes Weigh-in will take place in Festival Hall Lent, Maribor on October 5 th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. It is the responsibility of the chief delegate or team leader to make sure that the athletes are on time. Any athletes who are late will not be accepted to participate. National Team All national team federations are free to send as many competitors as they have, ready to compete, who are not on any sanction what so ever. Also, national federation can send one, or more delegates and judges with IFBB judge license for International competitions.
