1 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) Event: 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) Date: 15/05 27/05, 2016 Location: Astana, Kazakhstan Selection Date: April 22 th Nomination procedures: I. Introduction: To be eligible for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s), the athlete must have a valid Canadian Passport on the date of the beginning of the new Team Selection year, and the athlete shall have been a legal resident in Canada for a minimum period of one year before being considered. Athletes must meet the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) requirements to be eligible to represent Canada at major international events including World Championships and the Olympic Games. Athletes with dual citizenships who represented another country at the following competitions: Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan-American Games, Francophone Games or the Commonwealth Games within the two previous years are not eligible. Athletes must be a member in good standing of Boxing Canada. Only athletes that have podium potential, as determined by Boxing Canada in its discretion, will be selected to represent Canada at the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s). II. Boxing Canada Identification of Eligibility: To be eligible for selection for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s), an athlete must: a. Be an Elite boxer in good standing with Boxing Canada; b. Not have any outstanding amounts owing to Boxing Canada, as of the date of selection, unless otherwise authorized, in advance and in writing, by the Executive Director; c. Have a valid Canadian Passport that does not expire on or before June 30, 2016 d. Be a member of the High Performance Men s or Women s pool, pursuant to High Performance pool eligibility and selection criteria e. Sign the Boxing Canada Athletes Agreement and comply with all of its terms. III. Selection of Boxers: Boxers who win their 2016 Canadian Championship weight category are not automatically selected to the Canadian Team to the 2016 AIBA Women s Elite World Championships. Boxers will have to meet the selection criteria as listed in section IV for selection to the Canadian Team to the 2016 AIBA Women s Elite World Championships.

2 IV. Selection Criteria: Athlete rankings based on the selection process will ordinarily determine the order of selection for available HPP positions. However, Boxing Canada HPC at all times maintains the discretion to recommend athletes for selection in an order other than that indicated by the rankings. Priority Pool Member A from the High Performance Program Selection Protocol 2016_2017 (annex bouts) in AIBA or CABA sanctioned competitions, between April 1 st, 2015, and April 3 rd, 2016, will Priority Pool Member B from the High Performance Program Selection Protocol 2016_2017 (annex bouts) in AIBA or CABA sanctioned competitions, between April 1 st, 2015, and April 3 rd, 2016, will Priority Pool Member C from the High Performance Program Selection Protocol 2016_2017 (annex bouts) in AIBA or CABA sanctioned competitions between April 1 st, 2015, and April 3 rd, 2016, will Priority Pool Member A, B or C from the High Performance Program Selection Protocol 2016_2017 (annex A) to be assessed on by the High Performance Committee on results obtain in AIBA or CABA sanctioned competitions, between April 1 st, 2015, and April 3 rd, 2016 using the Assessment tool described in annex B. The athlete s scores are used to rank athletes for the allocation of this priority #4. To be eligible for 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) the athletes must have a total assessment of 60% and above. V. Final Approval: The High Performance Committee is responsible for the nomination of athletes to the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s). VI. Financial: Selected athletes from the 2016 Pool Member A or B will have their airfare and accommodation covered by Boxing Canada for this event. Selected athletes from the 2016 Pool Member C will have to cover all their expenses for this event. All the expenses are payable directly by the athlete.

3 VII. Mandatory Training Camps: A mandatory training camps for Elite Olympic weight boxer will be scheduled in May for evaluation and preparation for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s). For Elite Olympic weight boxer Participation is required to confirm their selection. The date, duration and location of the camp are still to be confirmed. No mandatory training camps will be scheduled with less than two weeks notice. Any boxer who does not attend the mandatory training camps may have their selection and/or participation immediately revoked by the High Performance Director/Head Coach (HPD/HC). VIII. Removal of a Boxer from Team: Boxing Canada may, at any time, disqualify an athlete from being considered for nomination to the Canadian Team or remove an athlete after selection as a result of any breach of duty or misconduct by the athlete, including conduct inconsistent with Boxing Canada s Team Rules, Regulations and Code of Conduct. An athlete will be removed from being considered for nomination to the Canadian Team or removed after selection if he/she is found to be in violation of any anti-doping policy or procedure as outlined by Boxing Canada, World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES). IX. Nomination Coach: Head Coach for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) boxing team will be Boxing Canada High Performance Director/Head Coach. In case the High Performance Director/Head Coach cannot participate to the 2016 Olympic Games the appointment for Head Coach shall be at the sole discretion of the Boxing Canada High Performance Director/Head Coach. The coach must be selected from the Assistant National Team Coaches pool with minimum of a Level 5 NCCP certified and AIBA 3 star. Assistant Coach for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) boxing team shall be appointed. This appointment shall be at the sole discretion of the Boxing Canada High Performance Director/Head Coach. The coach must be selected from the Assistant National Team Coaches pool with minimum of a Level 3 NCCP certified and AIBA 1 star. Coaches selected for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) must be member of Coaches of Canada. The Boxing Canada High Performance Director/Head Coach has the authority and sole discretion to appoint Coaches where deemed necessary to balance the coaching staff for optimal results. X. Nomination Support Staff: The Boxing Canada High Performance Director/Head Coach has the sole discretion in selecting the support staff, including the Team Leader, integrated support team (IST) for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s). The support staff will be selected based on the principle of sending a team of specialists that is best capable of assisting athletes in achieving podium performances at the Games.

4 XI. Amendments and Unforeseen Circumstances: In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances, as determined by the HPD / Head Coach, the HPD / Head Coach shall have full discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit taking into account factors and circumstances that he/she deems relevant. XII. Appeals: The sole grounds for any appeal are that this Selection Criteria was not properly followed and/or implemented. Boxing Canada Appeals Policy governs all decisions made by Boxing Canada, including issues pertaining to selection and as provided for under the Appeals Policy. All appeals should be address to the Executive Director of Boxing Canada at rhalpin@boxingcanada.org XIII. Changes to this document: The High Performance Director / Head Coach reserves the right to makes changes to this document, which in his discretion are necessary to ensure selection of the best athlete possible for the 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s). Any changes to this document shall be communicated directly to all National Team Pool Members and published on Boxing Canada website. This selection criteria was approved by the Executive Committee.

5 ANNEX B Boxing Canada Assessment Tool for 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) Athletes eligible for Assessment will be assessed by the High Performance Committee using the Assessment tool below: Scoring guideline: Score Assessment 0 Unacceptable or nonexistent 5 Average, what is expected of a national team athlete 10 World class, an example to others Rubric: BOXING ABILITY (70%) SCORE (0-10) Performances in international events Technical ability Tactical ability Potential to reach Olympic podium this quadrennial Potential to reach Olympic podium next quadrennial Potential to reach WC podium this quadrennial Overall boxing progression in the last 12 months Total Score /70 /70% ATTITUDE (30%) SCORE (0-10) Positive contribution to team environment Shares training plans and data with HPD/HC Communication with HPD/HC and IST Lead Attendance and performance at Boxing Canada Event Takes personal responsibility for self and results Attitude progression in the last 12 months Lifestyle Total Score /70 /30% TOTAL (100%) If the coach is unable to assess any one area, that will be left blank and won t be included when calculating the average scores. To get selected for 2016 AIBA World Championships (Elite Women s) athletes must have a total score of 60% and above.
