1 U STAND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Thank you for purchasing the incredible new U STAND by Stand N Fish. Once installed on your kayak the U STAND will enhance your kayak fishing enjoyment to a whole new level. We recommend that you carefully read through the entire installation instructions BEFORE you begin the installation process. If you encounter any problems during the process please stop and immediately contact us by e mail (standnfish@comcast.net) or phone ( ). IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE ACCESS OUR WEBSITE AT: WHERE YOU CAN VIEW A VIDEO SHOWING A FULL INSTALLATION NOTE: If you do not consider yourself fairly handy with projects such as this installation it would be beneficial to employ the help of a handy person to aid in the process. 1. Locate the 8 x ¾ diameter insert that fits inside and connects the 2 corner pieces. This insert allows the width of the U STAND to be adjusted from approximately wide. Measure and mark the center as well as 1 in from each end. These are simply reference points that will be used during the installation. 2. Determine whether or not you will need to use the supplied angle brackets The U Stand is designed to fold forward/flat when desired. To hinge forward properly, the front 2 feet (or U brackets) that mount permanently to the kayak must be fairly level and pointing straight front to back (not skewed on an angle). The rear 2 U brackets

can be mounted anywhere you desire and on any angle as they will be released when folding the U Stand forward.

You will note that the angled supports can swing to any position and the lower end of these supports also have a 2 piece that will rotate.

Included in your hardware package are several options for angle brackets that will help provide a flat surface for the U brackets if needed.

If need be, the angles can be opened up to better conform to the kayak (see bottom right picture below). Simply place them upside down on a hard surface (like concrete) and hit them with a hammer.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is best to install the rear U brackets on top of or to the inside of the gunnels. Installing them on the outside can interfere with your paddle stroke. You will note that the angled supports can swing to any position and the lower end of these supports also have a 2 piece that will rotate. This provides unlimited adjustment possibilities and allows the rear feet to conform to any surface angle. Some kayaks have a nice flat surface to mount the U brackets to while others do not. Included in your hardware package are several options for angle brackets that will help provide a flat surface for the U brackets if needed. These angle brackets can be mounted to the inside or outside of the kayak (inside is preferable). If need be, the angles can be opened up to better conform to the kayak (see bottom right picture below). Simply place them upside down on a hard surface (like concrete) and hit them with a hammer. NOTE: to prevent scratches you can cover them with a rag while using the hammer. 3. Now you must determine exactly where you want the U Stand installed. First insert the 8 insert into one of the corner pieces and then slide the other onto it completely (so the insert disappears). Now stand in the kayak where you would while fishing and hold the U Stand in front of you in the approximate desired position for the front supports while having a second person mark the approximate location. The U STAND is typically tipping back slightly but can be tipped more if need be to help lower the height. NOTE:

If you have determined that you WILL need to use the angles to create a flat/level surface follow the information in this step. If you do NOT need the angles go to step 5.

3 You can spread the width as needed to get the front feet to sit on the kayak in the desired location. Now lay the U STAND in the folded/forward position with the front U brackets in the approximate desired location. 4. If you have determined that you WILL need to use the angles to create a flat/level surface follow the information in this step. If you do NOT need the angles go to step 5. Installing the angle brackets: A. You will first install the angles for the front U brackets to secure the front supports to the kayak. B. Your hardware package includes (16) #12 x 3/4 screws. In most cases you will NOT use all of these screws. You will, however, use at least 2 in each U bracket. Additional screws can be installed on the sides of the U brackets to provide extra support. C. Lay the U STAND in folded forward position and rotate the rear supports so they are on top of the front supports as shown in the photos below.

Slide the selected angle brackets under the U brackets. Adjust the width of the U STAND so the U brackets are in a position where the mounting screws (when installed) will connect to the kayak.

Remove the film from the tape on the bottom of the U brackets and stick them into place on top of the angle brackets. Now mark the location of the angle brackets on the kayak for reference.

4 Slide the selected angle brackets under the U brackets. Adjust the width of the U STAND so the U brackets are in a position where the mounting screws (when installed) will connect to the kayak. In other words, adjust the width of the U STAND so the U brackets sit on the angle brackets where the air space under the angle bracket is at a minimum. Remove the film from the tape on the bottom of the U brackets and stick them into place on top of the angle brackets. Now mark the location of the angle brackets on the kayak for reference. Remove the 2 quick release pins and place the U STAND to the side for now. D. Mark the bottom of the angle brackets with an L for left and R for right so they can be replaced back to their proper locations after drilling. E. Place the angle brackets on a piece of 2 x 4 lumber (with the U brackets still in place on top of them) and drill 13/64 holes through the angle brackets using the U brackets as a guide. NOTE: it is only necessary to drill the outside 2 holes and NOT the middle hole. F. Place the angle brackets back in their marked locations on the kayak and drill 9/64 pilot holes into the kayak then install #12 x ¾ screws through the holes you just drilled and into the kayak. G. Reinstall the front supports of the U STAND using the quick release pins. H. Rotate the rear supports 90 degrees so they are on the inside of the front supports and use them to pull the U STAND into the upright position. I. You can rotate the rear supports and install the U brackets where you desire (with or without angle brackets). J. Install the rear supports in the same manner shown in steps A F above. If you are NOT using the angle brackets simply remove the film from the tape on the bottom of the U brackets, stick them into desired position, drill 9/64 pilot holes and install #12 x ¾ screws

5. Installing the front supports WITHOUT the angle brackets A. Simply follow all of the steps from STEP 6 above but eliminate the angle brackets.

Installing the foam padding remove the U Stand from the kayak, pull it completely apart in the center and remove the insert.

NOTE: leave the bottom uncoated so you can grasp the bar with your hand while installing the foam pad. Now push the foam pad on using a twisting motion.

Reinstall the 8 insert and also reinstall the U STAND to the kayak.

5 5. Installing the front supports WITHOUT the angle brackets A. Simply follow all of the steps from STEP 6 above but eliminate the angle brackets. You will drill 9/64 pilot holes into the kayak and install the #12 x ¾ screws to secure the U brackets. 6. Installing the foam padding remove the U Stand from the kayak, pull it completely apart in the center and remove the insert. Using soft soap generously coat one of the 90 degree angles and also use your finger to get some soap inside one end of the foam pad. NOTE: leave the bottom uncoated so you can grasp the bar with your hand while installing the foam pad. Now push the foam pad on using a twisting motion. It is easiest to twist the leading end of the foam followed by the center then the upper end. Repeat this until about 1 of the upper metal end is exposed (see picture on bottom right below). Reinstall the 8 insert and also reinstall the U STAND to the kayak. Center up the insert using the center mark you made in step #2 above now drill 1 9/64 hole about ½ from the end of each 90 degree supports. You will drill through the support and the insert and install a #8 x 5/8 pan head screw in these holes to lock the insert in place. Now twist the foam pad back onto the center of the U STAND. 7. Locking all joints you will now drill 9/64 holes approximately ½ from the end of all universal joints and install a #8 x 5/8 pan head screw into each hole (there are a total of 8 including the 2 from the previous step). This will lock all of the joints and prevent

6 any movement. Be sure to install a screw above and below the universal joint where the angled support meets the main frame. 8. Now go enjoy your new U STAND! ADDITIONAL NOTES: 1. One of the inherent features of the U STAND is that you can use it to help get to the standing position and vice versa. When pulling yourself up or down always do so at the intersection of the front supports and the angled supports. 2. Transporting if you are going to travel with the U STAND attached to the kayak you will need to secure it to the kayak with a rope or bungee cord to hold it safely in the down position. Also secure the push pins to the U brackets by stringing a small bungee cord from pin to pin (these can be purchased at any home improvement store). If not secured the pins can work loose from vibration. 3. Always wear an approved life vest when on the water.
