1 2014 VICTORIAN SCHOOLS WHITEWATER CANOEING CHAMPIONSHIPS 6-7 September PROGRAMME WELCOME Canoeing Victoria and the Victorian Slalom Committee welcomes all paddlers, teachers, and spectators to the 2014 Victorian Schools Whitewater Canoeing Championships. The event has two purposes; one is to encourage participation by all paddlers regardless of standard. We believe in the philosophy of participation, to encourage people to be involved, to be active and to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. The second aim is to encourage friendly competition between the school groups, while encouraging the paddlers to give their best. From this competition paddlers will have the opportunity to become involved in junior development programs in both downriver and slalom. The organisation of the championships has been achieved through the co-operation of the schools, the whitewater committee, slalom committee and Canoeing Victoria. The event has been organized by a number of volunteers. We thank all these people for their co-operation, hard work and time in organizing this great event. We also thank all the people here today who have helped to get boats on the water, helped to judge, erect the course and the multitude of other tasks, which have to be done to ensure a smooth run Event. Paddlers must be at the start on time, as we cannot wait for boat return. Paddlers must start in order and must wear the correct body number. We are sure that by working together we will have a busy and enjoyable weekend. Good luck to all. EMERGENCY INFORMATION A number of officials trained in first aid and a first aid kit will be available during the slalom and downriver events. If you require first aid treatments contact the finish (downriver event) or compiling (slalom). For injuries that require more than first aid treatment ring the Emergency Services on 000. IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE JUMPING CREEK RESERVE The Jumping Creek Reserve is for the use of all, and the general public must not be disadvantaged by our use of the park for this event. o Please take extreme care and be patient when accessing the park area for the start of the downriver event. o Do not park in the areas that have been reserved by cones. o On the access road, only park on the uphill side of the road o We will be providing traffic marshals to assist on the day. o We must also not damage the park by our use of it. o Canoes/Kayaks must not be placed on the vegetated area. o Participants and / or spectators must only use the formed paths and not cut through vegetated areas. o All litter is to be removed from the park. At all times obey instructions that may be given by the park rangers. Our continued use of the park relies on compliance with the conditions that have been attached to our permit for use of the park. Special thanks to Parks Victoria for permission to use the river and the Jumping Creek area. Thank you also to the people of Warrandyte for their patience in dealing with this annual event.
