1 PGI GREENLAND THE OUTDOOR COMPANY OF ILULISSAT SUMMER SEASON 2018

2 ILULISSAT KAYAKING MORNING From 1st of June to 15th of September Paddle in a kayak and witness the overwhelming beauty of icebergs coming from the Ilulissat Icefjord. Kayaking in Ilulissat is a unique activity for two reasons. The first one is very obvious, kayaking is possibly the best way to experience the Ilulissat Icefjord (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Being at the sea level, without any sound and just using your own body to sail among icebergs, makes it very special. The second one, perhaps not that known among people visiting us, is that 4,000 years ago, people already used qajaat (traditional kayaks) for travelling and hunting here in Ilulissat. Our experienced and certified kayaking guides, modern expedition equipment and safety protocols make it possible for you to kayak among icebergs, even if you have never been on a kayak before. Besides, they will introduce you to the fascinating world of the original kayak qajaq, invented in Greenland and made out of drifting wood and animal skin. We start meeting at PGI Greenland office and gearing up. After a short walk to the charming historic center of Ilulissat, we will start our activity, which embraces all the wonders from this destination. Join us in a unique experience in Ilulissat!

8 INUIT VILLAGE LIFE (Full day) From 1st of June to 15th of September Do you want to live an authentic Greenlandic experience? An alternative to our Oqaatsut kayak day is the Inuit Village Life. This is your chance to get closer to the people of the small settlement of Oqaatsut and understand some of the daily activities. The day starts sailing towards Oqaatsut, a small Inuit village where 37 people live all year round. In Greenland, unlike most of the places of the world, the boat is the main mean of transport. Actually there are no two villages connected by road in our country. Once in the settlement, we go on a small walk and tell you about the everyday life of its inhabitants. We then do some local activities, traditional from the village with the assistance of its inhabitants. The activity we do is subject to the season and the activities that local people do, such as learning how to cook and smoke fish, how to cut and dry it for storage, collecting wild plants and flowers to make tea, feed the sled dogs with their musher, repair a fishing net, build a sled, etc. Our local English speaking guide will translate so you understand and learn about the Greenlandic reality. The day in the settlement will finish with a visit to a local family and a traditional lunch made with local ingredients. After a lovely meal, we sail back to Ilulissat.

10 ARCTIC OUTDOOR ADVENTURE From 1st of June to 15th of September (Hiking & kayaking 2 days) Cecilia was a girl who lived with her family in Oqaatsut, a small settlement north of Ilulissat. The story tells that one night, Cecilia s father was severely ill. In a desperate call for getting help, Cecilia ran the 20 kilometers that separate these two villages. In memory of Cecilia s story, this trail that goes from one village to the other has been called after her. On the first day of our program, we invite you to walk with us, accompanied by our local guide, and take you through the fauna, flora and stories of this untouched landscape: a bay full of blue icebergs, rivers where fish run up for migration, Arctic flowers in the middle of tundra fields, metamorphosed rocks polished by the action of glaciers. Once in Oqaatsut we settle down in our rooms and have a traditional dinner, with free time to walk around the settlement. Next day, after breakfast, we all meet to go out kayaking. Our experienced and certified kayaking guides, modern expedition equipment and safety protocols make it possible for you to kayak in the beautiful surroundings of Oqaatsut, full of nature and with a unique peaceful atmosphere. We then visit a family of the settlement and enjoy a traditional lunch made with local ingredients. After our lovely meal, we will be ready to head back by boat to Ilulissat.

18 LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY: The levels of difficulty explain what we expect from participants, and also what they should expect for every of our activities. The level of difficulty represents, at the same time, a physically and mentally difficulty. No specific techniques are required for joining our activities (we will teach you how to drive the snowmobile, sit on the dogsled or walk on snowshoes). 1/5 EASY An easy activity will require little or no physical effort, no need to walk more than 3 kilometers in paths or easy trails. 2/5 MODERATE Everyone with a good health, light exercise done regularly and a positive and proactive attitude is able to join our moderate activities. Our kayaking activities with moderate level do not require previous kayaking experience. We have a lot of first-time kayakers every season, and all of them do the activity and enjoy it. 3/5 CHALLENGING In this level we ask participants to be familiar with hiking in the nature, especially out of the track. For example, having the ability to hike up and down hills, cross small rivers or walk from boulder to boulder. As for kayaking, we expect paddlers to have a level around EPP 2 (European Paddle Pass). We ask participants to be able to do a self-rescue. Rolling is not a mandatory skill, but advisable. 4/5 DEMANDING On demanding activities we expect participants to be in a good shape. This means being able to hike steep terrain and out of the track for many days with a day backpack. We do not expect you to be an athlete or in outstanding shape. What we do expect is that you are physically active on a regular basis and, perhaps most important, have a mental attitude that allows you to persevere. 5/5 STRENUOUS This level needs specific physical and mental preparation for the activity. It is meant for expeditions, as for example joining an expedition crossing the Ice Cap on skis. * Please note that our pricing in EURO is based on today s exchanged rates which is 7.5 and subject to change
