Dear Rowing friends, Well known in the Rowing community, the course of Hazewinkel, Belgium, will be the location for the 2015 World Rowing Master Regatta, and after many rowing events in the past years, masters will meet here again to share sporting and friendly moments. Masters represent an essential part of our rowing community; they focus on the health and fitness benefits of our sport and also on socializing and forming friendships. These two aspects are particularly relevant for FISA who wants to encourage all forms of our sport while strengthening the bonds that unite those who row. Moreover, the World Rowing Master Regatta shows some interesting features such as mixed women/men races on Sunday and herewith I can only encourage all of you to participate in the 2015 WRMR and count on all participants as well as on the Organising Committee to show the world all the values and quality of our sport and herewith invite more people to join us! Jean-Christophe Rolland, President FISA Welcome from the Chair of FISA Masters Commission The FISA Masters Commission is proud to announce that the 2015 World Rowing Masters Regatta will be held at the Hazewinkel rowing course in Willebroek, Belgium. The Hazewinkel regatta course has a history of hosting high level international regattas through the years. We, the FISA Masters Commission, feel confident that the experience and skills of the organisation will provide us with a fair and safe regatta. Master rowers from all over the world still have good memories from racing at Hazewinkel in The experts of the 2000 Organising Committee invented new ideas that we now take for granted. The special boat numbers we still use was one of their practical ideas. Outside rowing, the area surrounding Hazewinkel, i.e. the municipality of Willebroek, and the nearby historic city of Mechelen, have many historic places to visit and those of us who have been in Belgium before are looking forward to the well-known Belgian cuisine. Hazewinkel is also close by the major cities of Antwerp and Brussels. It is easy to get to Hazewinkel and it is a good place to bring friends and family. The FISA Masters Commission is working hard to reach more master rowers from all over the World and we would like to welcome new master rowers to our World Rowing Master Regatta. We want to take the opportunity to remind you that you can be a master rower from the beginning of the year in which you reach the age of 27. Also in 2015 we will do our utmost to give you a pleasant and exciting stay in Belgium. The rowing course is situated in a wooded area and yet only a few miles from Mechelen and Willebroek. You will come to row as the best in your race but don t forget, after the race, there is the warm hospitality of the Belgian citizens, and of course, Belgium is also known for excellent food. Belgium has a large range of specialities as beer, chocolate, regional cuisine, etc..., so I challenge you to try this out! The volunteers are already in the starting blocks to help where you need! The organizing committee begins to run at full speed! 5 Welcome from the General Administrator of Bloso, Flemish Sports Administration As General Administrator of Bloso, the Flemish Sports Administration, it is an honour to host the World Rowing Masters Regatta in Flanders once again. Three thousand of the world s best rowers will challenge their own personal best and compete with each other on the regatta course of Hazewinkel, known to be one of the best and fairest courses for this level of competition. As the World Rowing Masters Regatta is the top annual event in masters rowing worldwide, we are proud that the Bloso Sports Centre Hazewinkel in Willebroek will set the scene for this year s edition. Since the opening of the regatta course in 1978, the Bloso Sports Centre Hazewinkel hosted many international championships in rowing and canoeing. The organization can thus rely on almost 40 years of experience in organizing major rowing events. The targets of our renewed Flemish sports policy are mainly based on partnerships as in this case between the Flemish Sports Administration and the Flemish Rowing Federation. Within the Bloso Sports Centre Hazewinkel we strive for a healthy balance between elite sports and sports for all programs by offering elite sport athletes the best training circumstances, setting up programs for high performance coaches, initiating children in several water sports throughout special schoolsport programs and organizing sports holiday camps. The interaction between elite sport and sports for all programs offers an extra value to this centre. On behalf of my colleague Co-President Pat Lambert and the Organising Committee I look forward meeting you all at the 2015 World Rowing Masters Regatta. The Hazewinkel regatta course, located in Willebroek, between Brussels and Antwerp has since 1978 a rich event history. All major world rowing events have been hosted since the BLOSO rowing centre has been inaugurated. We are pleased to meet after 2000 the World Rowing Masters Community for the second time at this magnificent 8-lane course. As Organising Committee since being selected by the FISA-Council we had the opportunity to visit Duisburg, Varese and Ballarat and to get the latest experience related to the huge challenge a (hopefully) more than seats Masters rowing festival represents. Beside your pure rowing experience I hope you will take some time to visit the Hazewinkel region and the many historical cities around. Brussels, Antwerp, Mechelen, Gent and Bruges, most of them distanced less than 100km from the rowing centre and easily accessible by road or public transport, offer you a superb opportunity to enjoy the Belgian hospitality and gastronomy. This bulletin comprises all relevant information to prepare your stay and participation at the 2015 World Rowing Masters Regatta.
