2 INTRODUCTION The Geat Cadboad Boat Race is the official kick-off fo United Way of Elkhat County s fundaising campaign. This event aises awaeness, get people excited, celebate the spiit of woking togethe and helps incease wokplace campaigns so that we can bette advance the common good. Being a pat of the Geat Cadboad Boat Race can be a geat Team Building activity fo you business. You employees get to design, name, build and sail thei own boat. On Race Day, the othe employees can come chee them on. Thee ae a numbe of wokplace benefits: Facilitates bette communication Pomotes ceativity Deepens elationships Inceases moale Impoves poblem-solving skills Celebates giving Boats ae made entiely of cadboad and poweed by two paddles. They will ace aound the LaSalle Bistol Copoate Pond. Boats compete in individual heats fo hono, gloy and some petty big tophies. As a pat of ou fleet you will: Have a boatload of fun Compete in an amazing event Receive 100 tickets to the Food Tuck Smogasbod pe-event ($100 value) and 2 fee t-shits fo you team (with the chance to buy additional shits). Get five pieces of 4x8 foot cadboad (with the chance to buy additional pieces). Have a safe acing envionment on ace day.

3 DETAILS COMMITMENT Captains and Cews who wish to paticipate in the United Way of Elkhat County s Geat Cadboad Boat Race event make a commitment to the following: Constuct a boat out of cadboad and duct tape. All boats ae human poweed (oas and paddles ae acceptable as populsion tools; you povide the oas/paddles; minimum of 2 people) Paticipate in the entie event which includes: Binging completed boat to the whaf on Thusday, August 25 by 5 p.m. Attending the Pe-Event Boat Cew Oientation on Thusday evening (5:00-6:00 p.m.). Secuing you boat fo ove night on the whaf (we will povide one oll of visqueen but ecommend additional taps/cove) Attend the ace on Fiday by checking in by 1:30 pm at the latest. Stay fo bief awads ceemony afte the ace Dispose of o emove boat fom popety afte the ace IMPORTANT DATES August 5, 2016 Last day fo boat s to egiste. All boats must have submitted thei final Name of Boat (o boat will be only known as the business name) August 25 -Boat dop-off Boats must be bought to the United Way pie by 5:00 P.M. Fom 5:00-6:00 thee will be a Boat Cew Oientation. Boat cews must come to the Boat Cew Oientation. Duing this time, we will collect team membes signed waves, and give out t-shits. At the end of the meeting, boat cews will cove/potect thei boat fo ovenight. August 26 - RACE DAY! Each boat enty will eceive 10 complementay food vouches fo the Food Tuck Smogasbod pe-event ($100 value). Fom 11:00 am though the ace, guests will have the oppotunity to eat a vaiety of foods fom the best Food Tucks in ou aea, check out the boat displays in the whaf and vote fo thei favoite boat with dollas. This is a geat oppotunity fo boat buildes to solicit votes fo the People s Choice Awad. Boat cews should aive by 1:30 p.m. At this time they will be intoduced to thei ace liaison and the Guest Judges will also pick thei favoite boat. Teams ae encouaged to come ealie if they have a staging aea they wish to set up in the whaf. The fist boats hit the wate at 3p.m. Awads ceemony begins immediately afte the final ace.

4 AWARDS RACE COMPETITION Boats will andomly daw a heat. The winne of each heat will move on to the final ace. AWARDS Fist, Second and Thid Place Tophies will be awaded fo the top thee boats in the final heat. A cadboad boat must complete length of the couse to qualify as a finishe. Swimming cewmembes pushing a boat (o some potion of it) though the couse is not consideed acing. The boat (o some potion of it) must be maneuveed and popelled by at least one paddling cewmembe. Cadboad Cusades Race- any boat that is still sea wothy (and a finishe ) and not in the finals is allowed to paticipate in the Cadboad Cusades ace. This ace is a one o two lap ace with the winne eceiving a special cadboad tophy fom Welch Packaging. Race Medals - Guaanteed to all egisteed paticipants including cew membes and boat buildes. These ae handed out duing the awads ceemony and each cew is ecognized. Special Tophies will be awaded fo the following: Best in Race Awad (1st place) - Fist boat to coss the finish line in the final heat. Best in Race eceives a taveling tophy fo one yea and will have that tophy eplaced at the end of the yea with a pemanent one they can keep. Second and Thid place tophies will also be awaded fo the final heat. Judge s Choice Awad - Awaded by the judges based on ceativity, showmanship and team spiit. Costumes and pops ae encouaged! People s Choice Awad - Awaded to the boat that eceives the most votes (in monetay tems) cast by the spectatos thoughout the day until the conclusion of all aces. Votes will also be collected at the Special Event the night befoe the ace and online though facebook. Fo the past two yeas, boats who have won this awad have done outside fundaising including sponsoships fom thei own vendos fo thei boats. Way to LIVE UNITED This awad was stated in 2012 in hono of United Way of Elkhat County s 90th Bithday. The staff awads this to the team who most embodies the LIVE UNITED spiit. Cadboad Cusade Tophy (sponsoed by Welch Packaging) - goes to the team who wins the Cadboad Cusade heat (see above). The Wonde That Went Down Unde Awad (Most Spectacula Sinking) - Awaded to the cew who, in the opinion of the staff, was the most spectacula in the way the ship and its cew went down. (As long as the boat o some pat of it is popelled by at least one paddling cewmembe, the boat may continue to the finish line.) Awads Ceemony - will be held in conjunction with the Campaign Kick-Off Rally afte the final heat, afte the ace and all boats ae out of the wate and the aea is cleaned up.

5 CONSTRUCTION AND RACE RULES The ENTIRE boat must be built of cadboad, duct tape, and one-pat polyuethane. (Any pat of you boat that touches the wate must be cadboad. This includes the hull, decking, keel, cowling, supestuctue, oa locks, seating and udde. Nuts, bolts, washes and staples ae NOT allowed in hull constuction. The cadboad may be as thick as you want, but may not be glued o attached to wood, plastic, fibeglass, etc.) Only exceptions ae the paddles & decoations Use cadboad boxes, blocks, capet tubes NO pe-teated cadboad allowed No Sona-Tubes, waxed o teated cadboad NO wood, plastic, styofoam o fibeglass NO caulking compounds o two-pat/mixed adhesives NO wapping in duct tape, plastic o fibeglass o simila poduct Duct tape may be used to einfoce seams

6 CONSTRUCTION AND RACE RULES Duct tape, masking tape, o adhesives such as liquid nails CAN be used to connect cadboad to cadboad and CAN be used to einfoce all seams and stess points. It CANNOT be used to watepoof boats. Watepoof the boat with Vanish, Paint o Polyuethane (one-pat, paint-like substance). (If you don t want you boat to sink, watepoof the entie boat with any paint-able, one-pat substance like Vanish o Polyuethane inside and out.) Decoations ae encouaged -as long as they don t effect stuctual stength o buoyancy Boats CANNOT tow anything behind them fo the safety of othe boats. The cew compatment CANNOT be enclosed so as to intefee with escape Evey cewmembe must wea a PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICE (PFD) & pope footwea. Please povide you own PFDs. All cew membes MUST sign a Paticipant Waive/Hold Hamless Ageement on ace day. Boats will not be allowed to ace without a signed ageement fom each ace paticipant Minimum of TWO cewmembes All boats ae human poweed (oas and paddles you povide ae acceptable as populsion tools) Alcoholic beveages ae NOT pemitted at any time

7 CONSTRUCTION AND RACE RULES Boats should weigh less than 200 lbs This ule is fo us. (Please keep you boat unde 200 lbs. If you need help getting out of the pond, we need the odds stacked in ou favo.) Boats should be less than 6 feet wide Hee moe is not bette Cae should be taken that constuction does not include pointed objects and shap edges that could injue anyone Sufboad style designs ae NOT allowed. Conside staying dy pat of the challenge. Raft style designs ARE allowed. (The distinguishing featue of a aft design as opposed to a sufboad style is the use of cadboad logs and othe such accoutements as one would expect to find in/on a aft. Think Huck Finn.) RACE DAY - Please check in (entie cew) at the egistation table on ace day no late than 1:30 p.m. (Boats aive the day befoe the ace at 5PM). Unload you boat in the display aea. Afte unloading, please move you vehicle to the paking lot. Set up you boat display. Afte the safety inspection is complete, Boats will ace othe boats aound the copoate pond. Afte the ace, the boat cews must emove all cadboad, decoations and othe mateials fom the wate and the gounds. Voluntees will be on hand to help. You can take you boat home with you o dispose of it in on-site ecycling bins. If thee is any doubt about the constuction, the judges eseve the ight to use a pobe, such as an ice pick, to test and veify that only cadboad has been used. Failue to abide by any design, ace ule o the diection of a ace official shall be cause fo disqualification. The Judges decision shall be final.
