1 Race Information & Registration Pack Saturday 7 June 2014 Great Harbour Challenge CELEBRATING MATARIKI TE WHANGANUI A TARA
2 Many thanks for participating in Hikoikoi Waka ama Club Matariki Celebrations on Te Whanganui a Tara. Supported by Wellington Tenths Trust, Palmerston North Maori Reserve, Wellington City Council, Waka ama NZ & NZ Post Group we are pleased to offer once again this annual race. VENUE: Freyberg Beach Oriental Bay Oriental Parade Wellington This event will be held on Wellington Harbour however if conditions determine the race venue may need to be changed due to unfavourable wind conditions then an alternative course has been arranged in Petone. Paddlers will be advised of any venue change at least 24 hours prior to race to allow for alternative arrangements for those organising canoe trailers and waka. If the venue is changed to Petone then it will be located at Hikoikoi Waka ama Club, 24 Marine Parade, Petone (Wellington Tenths Trust/Palmerston North Maori Reserve Offices). COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: The course will be set out on the Wellington Harbour within the boundaries of Evan s Bay and Oriental Bay, keeping mainly within 200 metres of the shoreline except when crossing Evan s Bay. The: 8 km novice race is designed for paddlers who have trained but not raced or are unsure they can complete a km course safely. This course has been set with novice to semi-novice crews and steerers in mind. Entries are welcome from W6s, W2s, W1s, Kayaks, Canoe and Surf Skis Male/Female/Mixed individuals and crews. SUPs may also enter this event however the distance for them maybe shortened on the day km competitive race is a nice blast for those with plenty of racing experience and capable of completing a kilometre course in under 90 minutes.
