4 Turning Stake Races Men and Woman Singles Mixed Doubles No Age Categories or Handicaps In the classic style of the Biglin Brothers and rowers of old, the Turning the Stake Races require all competitors to turn around two buoyed stakes. The race will begin at the Starting line, the Viking statue, traveling up river (West River Drive side, opposite Boathouse Row). The Turning Stakes will be positioned before the Girard Avenue bridge (first bridge going up river). Competitors will do a U Turn around two Stakes, once the competitors boat and oars have gone completely around both stakes, each boat will follow a down river course (Kelly Drive/Boathouse Row side) to the Finish line (which is the same as the Starting line), the Viking statue. Each boat is timed. Timing begins when each boat crosses the Start line and will stop when each boat has crossed the Finish line. The course is approximately 500m up and 500m back for a round trip total of approximately 1000m. Boats will be sent off in a time trial/head race fashion with approximately 10 second breaks between boats. Trophies will be given to the first three boats in the Mens 1X, Womens 1X and Mixed 2X categories. So grab your partner or venture out in your single and invite your family and friends to come and cheer you on to victory.
