1 1 August 014 Volume 1, Issue 1 Inside this Issue Welcome to the 014 Season Volunteer Opportunities New Football Players GHS Football Clinic for A & B Team Football Players What Your Football Equipment Your Player Needs GAME SCHEDULE Cheerleading Info Registration Fees Game of the Week Dates to Remember s Coaches Directory Riverdale Rockets Gloucester, MA Welcome to the 014 Season! To make this season enjoyable & safe for our players, cheerleaders, parents, coaches & volunteers, we would like to bring attention to a few items: COME PREPARED Riverdale Rockets Football & Cheerleading Newsletter Dress appropriately for the weather and please bring a water bottle clearly labeled with your child s name. The children shouldn t share drinks due to the spreading of illnesses PARENTS: If it begins to rain while your child is at the field, please come and pick them up. ALL GIRLS AND BOYS: No jewelry. GIRLS: wear sneakers (Not high ones). You will not be allowed to practice without them and please no jeans. RESPECT THE FIELDS Please help keep our fields clean! Make sure that after every game and practice you pick up any trash and equipment left on the field. We will be playing a handful of regular season games at the New Balance Field at GHS this is a PRIVELGE this year which we do not want taken away! Please keep all our fields clean & respect the rules of each field. PLEASE PICK UP CHILDREN ON TIME Our Volunteers have families and duties to attend to and it is unfair to ask them to stay at the field until all children have been picked up from practice. We do not like the idea of children being left behind, so please be aware of what time your child s practice ends so that you can arrange for your child s pick-up at the end of practice. CONCESSION FOR PLAYERS & CHEERLEADERS DURING GAMES Please send your child with a drink and snack or allow them to buy something at the concession BEFORE or AFTER their game. CHEERLEADERS: You are expected back on the field to cheer when the football players return from their half-time. DO NOT GET STUCK IN THE CONCESSION LINES! JUST A MESSAGE AWAY If your child is unable to make practice or a game, please let your child s coach know. We understand that the new school year brings conflicting schedules and we are willing to work around them. By contacting (via phone, or text) your child s coach ahead of time, it allows the coach to play for the practice or game that your child is unable to attend. A NOTE TO OUR PARENTS If you have a concern about your child, please do not approach the coach during a game or practice either wait to speak with them afterwards or please give them a call. We realize everyone wants their child to play & cheer as much as possible and voicing concerns during games or practices are not helpful to the coach or the teams. The football coaches will try their very best (Continued on Page )
2 August 014 (Continued from Page 1) to make sure that every player plays a fair amount of time each game, while trying to stay competitive within the league, abide by league playing rules and maintain the safety of all players. Volunteer Opportunities The Riverdale Rockets Organization depends on the dedication of our parents. We know that everyone has busy schedules; if you can spare some of your time to help out the organization in any way it will really make a difference! Volunteers are always needed in the concession, to hold sideline markers on game days, assist in fundraising. Anyway that a parent can help the organization is greatly appreciated! 014 Game Schedule Sept 7 th Rockets vs. GHS* (we are the home team) Sept 14 th Rockets vs. O maley Sept 1 st Rockets vs. O maley GHS Football Clinic for A & B Team Football The GHS Football Team will be holding a clinic for all A & B football teams leaguewise. Registration Fees Registration Fees are due at football equipment hand-outs. There will a table set up during this time for fees to be collected. Cheerleaders can bring their registration fees either to football equipment hand-outs or during the 1 st week of practice August 5 th. Registration fees help operate the organization. These fees help us pay for uniforms, equipment, league fees for the season as well as referees for games & insurance. Game of the Week at GHS The Cape Ann Football League is fortunate enough this year to have a Game of the Week at the New Balance Field at GHS during our regular season games this year. Each week, a regular season game between two opposing teams will take place at the new field. This season the Rockets are able to play 3 regular season games at GHS! What this means is that all four of our levels of football players & cheerleaders will be playing & cheering as they would on any other Sunday (same start times as we would have at any other field) except they are doing so on the new state of the art field! By playing on the new field, there are a few rules that we need to follow in order to keep this privilege: only players, cheerleaders & coaches are allowed on the playing field parents & spectators must stay in the stands they are not allowed on the playing field Water is the only beverage allowed on the playing field (Continued on Page 4) Dates to Remember NEWSLETTER Friday, August 8th the Concession Equipment Hand-outs collected ***We are also asking that if you have gently used sporting equipment, please donate it today for our upcoming yard sale*** Saturday, August 9th the Concession Equipment Hand-outs collected***we are also asking that if you have gently used sporting equipment, please donate it today for our upcoming yard sale*** Friday, August 15th the Concession Equipment Hand-outs& Yard Sale collected.
