RESPONSIBILITY 7: PROVIDE PROPER INSTRUCTION Employ the latest methods of proper istructio Use proper mechaics, sport strategies, ad progressio i skill developmet ad coditioig Kow how to implemet them based o the readiess of the athlete to coordiate ew levels of proficiecy. Recovery time may be loger if proper care is delayed, ad the athlete could experiece icreased or permaet damage. Evaluate for Ijury ad Icapacity If a ijury has occurred, the coach must: Assess the magitude of the ijury Iitiate appropriate care. Whe i doubt, sit them out! RESPONSIBILIYT 9: INITIATE MEDICAL RESPONSE I Pop Warer, at least oe coach certified i first aid ad CPR must be preset at ALL practices ad competitios. The absece of pai does ot sigify that the ijury is ot serious. RETURN TO PLAY GUIDELINES With pai, swellig, or redess, DO NOT ASK THE ATHLETE TO TRY TO WALK IT OFF. Do ot let the athlete move at all with ay suspected ijury to the head, eck or back. Do ot let others touch the athlete or roll him or her over. Call EMS immediately if: Deformity of limb. Ay extreme localized pai. Joit pai. Altered level of cosciousess, icludig drowsiess, disorietatio, seizure, ucosciousess. Repeated vomitig or diarrhea. Uequal pupil size. Severe bleedig. HEAD OR NECK INJURIES If there are ANY symptoms or sigs of a potetial head or eck ijury: Do ot let the athlete retur to play. Whe i doubt PLAY IT SAFE! Followig a serious ijury or illess, retur to play should be guided by a physicia s recommedatio ad release. A athlete should be able to demostrate a pai-free full rage of motio i the ijured areas before returig to play. The Head Coach CANNOT decide retur to play eve if the ijury is to his or her so or daughter! The Head Coach should defer to a official licesed athletic traier or other medical professioal o site. The medical official shall always have fial authority ad decide if the player is to be removed ad whe the athlete should retur to play. CONCUSSION GUIDELINES If a participat is suspected of a cocussio or a head ijury that player must be removed from practice, game, or competitio. Participats removed due to a head ijury or suspected cocussio may ot retur to play util the participat has bee: Evaluated by a curretly licesed medical professioal traied i the evaluatio ad maagemet of cocussios. AND Obtais writte clearace to retur to play from that licesed practitioer.
