3 NPHS NEWS K E I T H F E S S L E R, P R I N C I P A L Written by Andrew Smith V O L L E Y B A L L W I N S F I R S T R E G I O N A L T I T L E The New Palestine volleyball team won the first regional title in school history Tuesday, rallying in the fourth set to beat Ritter 25 15, 22 25, 25 13, The Dragons rolled in the opening set before Ritter jumped out to an early lead in the second set. NP rallied, but couldn t complete the comeback. NP again came back, tied the set at 23 all, then eventually worked to match point at After a long rally that featured several blocks by the Dragons at the net, a violation gave the Dragons the victory. NP is now in the season. The seventh ranked Dragons will travel to Jasper for Saturday s Class 3A South Semi state. The Dragons will face Northview in the second semifinal at approximately noon, with No. 2 Clarksville Providence meeting Evansville Memorial in the first match at 11 a.m. The championship match is slated for 7 p.m. W E E K L Y N E W S 2

4 DCMS NEWS JIM VOELZ, PRINCIPAL Written by Lisa Clouse. 7th/8th grade Language Arts teacher and Haunted Trail Sponsor The Doe Creek Middle School Haunted Trail When the temperatures drop and the leaves start to turn, the ghouls and goblins come out at Doe Creek Middle School! For 6 years, students have come together to raise money for local and national charities by conducting a haunted trail. The outdoor lab, which includes a wooded area, is transformed into ghoulish, thematic haunts manned by students in costume. This is much more of an undertaking than simply dressing up. Students are responsible for every aspect of this project from identifying the organizations they support to the execution of the actual event. They meet and work in committees to plan, organize, create, and engineer for two months prior to the opening of the trail. Their hard work and dedication, along with incredible community support, has resulted in raising thousands of dollars for charity. xxx McDonald's Night 5 8 p.m. Professional Development 3 p.m. 11/4 Picture Re Takes DCMS Dance, 7 9 p.m. 11/5 CPR Training in Library 9 a.m. 3

5 NPE NEWS WRITTEN BY KATY EASTES, PRINCIPAL NPE NEWS PTO The NPE PTO is an amazing support group! At this week s PTO Meeting, each committee chair presented on their most recent project. The NPE PTO has raised about $30,000 through fundraising in the first three months of school! What a difference that will make for our kids! This week the Teacher Appreciation Committee brought around the the treat cart to each staff member. Staff were surprised to open their door and find a cart full of homemade goodies. The PTO Sunshine Committee recently decorated the cafeteria for Fall. They hung a Fall leaf with each child s name on a bulletin board and hung decorations and curtains to brighten the space. It makes our cafeteria feel even more inviting! We appreciate how much our PTO supports our students and teachers! Halloween The NPE staff loves to have fun at our dream jobs! This week the staff participated in a Halloween costume contest. It was fun to see such creative costumes! 6 BWE NEWS WRITTEN BY MARK KERN, PRINCIPAL BULLDOG NEWS Title I Parent Night This year s Parent Night was a big success. A number of families joined in the activities. The focus of the evening was enabling parents to become even stronger partners in their students school work. Thanks to the families and students who attended, and to the team of volunteers from Brandywine and the Administration Office! Robotics Team Update Check out the latest work of our Bulldog Robotics team as they prepare for their upcoming competition! Fall Parties and Halloween Parade Students and staff are looking forward to the Fall Parties on Friday as well as a Halloween Parade of Costumes! Pyramid Problems Several of Mrs. Swinford s second graders have been studying the principles behind the construction of the Giza Pyramid. They were exploring how the foundations of the pyramids were built. Thanks to Mrs. Lowe for her help! The kids even used Mr. Kern to test out their ideas! Celebrating the Season at McDonalds The 5th grade classes sponsored this month s Brandywine Night at the New Palestine McDonalds. Students had planned and designed a variety of decorated pumpkins for the Fall Halloween season. Students visiting McDonalds that night voted for their favorite pumpkin in hopes of a chance to take their favorite pumpkin home. In addition, more than $200 was raised for 5th grade projects! 7 SCE NEWS WRITTEN BY KARI SHELTON, PRINCIPAL SCE NEWS Sea World Inspiration Mr. Nicholson s and Mr. Spicer s students had an opportunity to Skype with a group of Sea World Orlando orca trainers. The trainers did a short class on what they do and told the students about the park. At the end, the students had a chance to talk to the trainer and ask questions. One question asked was, "How do you become a trainer?" She told them to be a trainer, you need a degree in psychology and a scuba certification. The call lasted about 30 minutes and the kids were excited during and after the call. They were inspired. The Big Pumpkin It's a Sugar Creek Elementary tradition to have an enormous pumpkin from Waterman s Family Farm on display at school. Everyday different classes visited the big pumpkin, sizing it up so they could have a chance at taking it home. Every student got a chance to make their best guess on how much they thought the pumpkin weighed. Guesses ranged anywhere from 60 to a 1000 pounds. One lucky student guessed the correct weight of 93.2 pounds and is super excited to bring it home for Halloween.
