Primary Ribbon Cutting McGregor Primary hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 18 to mark the completion of the construction and renovation projects approved by the citizens in the district in McGregor Primary principal Cheri Zacharias welcomed all in attendance and thanked them for their support. Primary student Kyla Shoppach also spoke to the crowd and told everyone how proud she was of her new school. After brief remarks by Superintendent Kevin Houchin, guests were free to tour the facility. Primary students were decked out in their Bulldog gear and were located throughout the building to show off their school.
High School Ribbon Cutting The newly renovated McGregor High School was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 18. The ceremony took place in the new auditorium. Those in attendance were greeted by MISD superintendent Kevin Houchin and MHS principal Robert White. Both talked about the process of completing $7 million in renovations throughout the school year. McGregor s mayor, Jim Hering, also spoke about the pride the McGregor community takes in their school. Members of the Class of 1965 and the Class of 2005 were on hand for the ceremony as were many members of the bond steering committee which recommended the renovations in After the ribbon was cut and members of the newly formed MHS Choir performed the school song, those in attendance were free to tour the building.
Primary Meet the Teacher Night Students in 1st grade take a sight word test every six weeks. Scoring a 100 on the test earns the students a star on Mrs. Adcock s wall. The students pictured above all scored 100 on their 1st six-weeks sight word test. All students in 1st grade recently went on a bear hunt to wrap up their week-long bear unit. The students acted out the story We re Going on a Bear Hunt in the Primary gym. After they found the bear, the students participated in a Teddy Bear picnic with their families.
Grandparents Day 2015
The Morris Brothers brought their Anti- Bullying World Tour to McGregor Elementary and McGregor Primary on September 18. The brothers fast-paced program presented students with several strategies for dealing with bullies. The interactive program gave several students the opportunity to take the stage and perform for their friends. Don t Be a Bully!
Elementary Events MHS PALs recently presented certificates to all 4th graders who completed the Keeping Tobacco Away from Kids (KTAK) curriculum at McGregor Elementary. Students who completed the program vowed to never use tobacco products. McGreor Elementary students who sold 15 or more A+ cards were recently treated to a limo ride and a pizza lunch. Proceeds from the sale of the cards are used to fund special campus projects. The faculty and staff at McGregor Elementary are showing their Bulldog Pride! Their shirts point out the fact that they believe they have the Best Job Ever because of the students they work with and the community they serve.
Big Dogs on Campus Students at McGregor Primary and McGregor Elementary have been welcomed to school by some of their Friday Night heroes. Recently, members of the varsity football team and the varsity cheerleaders were on hand to greet the students when they arrived for class.
So You Want to be a Martian?! The 7th grade GT science students and the JH Research & Design students recently participated in a video conference sponsored by NASA regarding the agency s upcoming mission to Mars. The conference shared information about NASA s role in the movie, The Martian. The students discussed: dust migration technology and exploiting it for human purposes gardens on Mars the presence of water and water quality issues on the red planet the atmosphere of Mars vehicles currently on the planet s surface the development of vehicles to take passengers to Mars Maybe one of these students will work with NASA to settle a colony and become a real-life Martian. Welcome Exes! Members of the Class of 65 (left) and the Class of 05 (right) celebrated their 50th and 10th class reunions during homecoming activities on September 18. In addition to reliving their high school exploits, these faithful MHS alums witnessed a homecoming victory as their Dogs defeated the Clifton Cubs.
High School News Five MHS students recently receive $500 scholarships to participate in college coaching services provided by Rick and Linda Cochran of collegecoach.today. The scholarships were sponsored by Patrick and Debbie Pollei. Mrs. Pollei taught each of the recipients in elementary school. Benefitting from the Pollei s generosity were Josh Turner, Alli Suarez, Tobi Mooney, Janet Benitez, and Alberto Torres. The MHS cheerleaders hosted their annual Mini Cheer Camp on Sunday, September 27. Participants learned cheers, chants, stunts, and a dance routine. The future Bulldog cheerleaders performed during the 2nd quarter of the varsity football game on October 2. Members of the McGregor Chapter of the Future Farmers of America are responsible for raising the flag at all home football games. Pictured at right are FFA officers Erin Rice, Brody Schmalriede, and Clay Huffman.
High School News The state FFA president and two vice-presidents paid a visit to the McGregor Chapter on September 15 to discuss issues related to agriculture and the FFA organization. As part of their duties, students elected to state office travel the state visiting with local chapters. Members of the MHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes met before school on September 23 for the annual See You at the Pole event. SYATP gives students an opportunity to pray for their school and their classmates. A special prayer and lesson was offered by Rev. Joe Chamness of the First United Methodist Church. The Greater Waco Advanced Health Care Academy hosted a grand opening celebration in September. Several MHS students attend GWAHCA and are pursuing credentials as Certified Nurses Assistants. MHS s own Brandy Wood (far right in photo to left) participated in the Ribbon Cutting ceremony.
