4 RETURNS TO NORTHWOODS FOR GRADES 4 AND 5. Club invention is a fun S.T.E.M. club which will be offered to our 4 th and 5 th graders this semester. This is an after school program which will be fun and will give children a chance to discover many aspects of science. It will be held from PM on 5 consecutive afternoons from March st. The topic will be E.Z. Science. This program, taught by Mr. Mead, 5 th grade teacher, is described as the following: This is a free program thanks to a grant to our school district. There is a limit of the number of students that we can take. Application forms will be coming home this week and will need to be back to Northwoods by March 16 NO LATER!!!! Students need to be committed to the program Above the line behavior is required First come first served for being able to be in the program. MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY CLUB INVENTION If you have questions about this program or attendance, please contact me. We realize that some children may have lessons pre- scheduled on certain nights. We will allow one missed night. Laurie Erdman, or lerdman@ecasd.us

5 SCIENCE FAIR UPDATES: First the SCIENCE FAIR date has been changed because of conflicts with testing and much more. So our date is now May 12 a Friday! Second-- this week on Thursday and Friday, packets will go home to all students. These will include the registration to be a participant in the Science Fair. These registrations are due on March 29. The packet will also include the opportunity for all Northwoods students to design a logo around our theme for this Science Fair which is Science Rocks. The winning logo will appear on T-shirts that will be given to every student who registers to be part of the Science Fair and all adults who are assisting in bringing this science fair together for our school. Additional logos, that are honorable mentions, will be displayed as posters. Months prior to Our Science Fair, we will feature: The Mighty Science Quiz (3-4 Wednesdays in April where kids have been given a topic and information through this newsletter including links to videos about the topic. All they have to do is watch and read and then answer some questions each Wednesday about that weeks topic and they can win a prize for correctly answering the quiz). We have done this in the past. T-Shirt and Poster design contest (already explained above) Predictable Science Trivia contest (late April or early May for one week. Kids can pick up the trivia questions and find the answers in the library or online and if they are correct, they win a prize). People in science- we hope to share a few times a week, names and faces of people from the past who influenced science or scientific discovery and ones who currently are making discoveries in many areas of the world of science. This will be shared in the classroom. Dress like a scientist? TBD AND THEN THERE IS THE SCIENCE FAIR MAY 12 If you have questions or would like to help with some aspect of the Fair, please contact me Laurie Erdman at lerdman@ecasd.us or call

6 BOOK FAIR FOLLOW-UP THANK YOU: We had another successful Book-Fair and there are lots of people to thank! We were very excited to see some new faces come and help out. Thank you to everyone who took some time to help out at our book-fair. We appreciate it and the book-fair could not happen with out you! Thank you to all the volunteers: Gina Kittilstad, Heather Market-Sullivan, Jessica Klesmit, Amanda Binczak, Michelle Lavoll, Kirsten Wagner, Tanya Kistner, Jessica Schinke, Billie Hays, Katie Meerza, Heather Brick, Brooke Christianson, Kristin Morosky, Stephanie Bauer, Chris Reedy, Amanda Griffin. We drew names for the 3 Book Baskets on Tuesday morning. The winners were: Finley in 5M Natasha in 2H Hannah in 3B The books have already gone home with the students. In addition, the book fair gave out: lots of prizes at our sucker pull tree, lots of books to teachers, and a whole cart of books for the library. We hope everyone is enjoying all their new books!!! :) PARENTS OF 5 TH GRADERS ATTENTION This message was received the following from Andrew Holle, 6th Grade Teacher - Northstar Middle School 7th/8th Grade Track Coach - Northstar Middle School and J.V. Boys Basketball Coach - North High School Staff at Northstar are looking for incoming 6th grade parent volunteers for a Fall trip to Camp Manitou. Some parents are needed for staying overnight in a cabin with students while others are needed to help with food preparation. Because of our need to get background checks done for all parents who are willing to volunteer, Northstar is looking to start this process now and not wait until September when the Board office becomes swamped with background check requests. This is a fun opportunity to do something with your 6 th grader at a wonderful setting. If you are interested in helping out, please contact me by replying to this or calling me at CHESS CLUB 2017
