2 What is Spirit Week? Pepperdine Spirit Week is a long-standing tradition that is all about expressing pride for our University and getting pumped for Waves Weekend. It is a time for all of the organizations on campus to unite and display their school spirit through fun-filled, competitive events with the goal of winning the Pepperdine Spirit Cup! 4 Location: Alumni Park Bring your team down to Alumni Park for some fun field day events! Your team will be tested on your athleticism and team spirit as you compete to win points through various games. Be sure to wear clothes that are good for active movement and represent your team (i.e., Greek letters, club t-shirt). Games will include tug-of-war, a relay race, and steal-the-bacon. Each team will have a chance to earn a 1st, 2nd or 3rd placement in each event. 10 team members from each team need to participate in the field day games. And when field day is over join us to enjoy free food. Start training and may the best team win! 1st Place: 300 points 2nd Place: 200 points 3rd Place: 100 points Photo Scavenger Hunt

5 Tuesday & Wednesday, October 14th at 8:00am-October 15th at 11:59pm Location: SAO Facebook Page On Tuesday, October 14th at 8:00 AM, a list of photo scavenger hunt items will be posted on the SAO Facebook page. The goal is for each team to snap all of the photos and post them on the SAO Facebook page by Wednesday, October 15th at 11:59 PM. Your team will have 2 days to complete the photo scavenger hunt. There will be 9 photos that will be mandatory to post and 10 bonus photos. For each bonus photo posted, 50 extra points will be awarded to that team. In each picture, be sure to include Flat Willie the Wave that we will be providing to your team! When posting each photo be sure to include #PepSpiritWeek and #WavesWeekend. Points will be awarded based on the number of required photos and bonus photos posted before the deadline. Please be respectful of Pepperdine University property and other participants. Any profanity or inappropriate photos will be deleted and points will be deducted. Do not do anything illegal or you will be held responsible. 6 Thursday, October 16th at 6:00pm Location: Amphitheater The Spirit Week Pep Rally is a great time to come together, get some free food, and show the other teams how much spirit you ve got! We will also be honoring the Waves Court! Spirit Week Cheer Each team comes up with a group cheer that promotes Pepperdine pride. The cheer needs to be 90 seconds or less and will be judged based on creativity, audience approval, and mention of Spirit Week, Pepperdine, Blue, and Orange. At least 10 team members need to participate in the cheer. Each team that participates in the cheer will earn 10 points. 1st Place 300 additional points 2nd Place 200 additional points 3rd Place 100 additional points 1 Minute-to-Win-It Challenge There will be one surprise Minute-to-Win-It challenge one representative from each team will need to participate. Only the winning team will get points! Winner 100 additional points Lip Sync

7 Saturday, October 18th, 4:00PM-5:30PM Location: Alumni Park Show off your dance moves and singing skills at the annual Lip Sync competition! Each team will have a time limit of five minutes to perform a choreographed lip sync performance on the Spirit Stage (20 x20 ) adjacent to the main stage. A maximum of 20 members of your team can perform on-stage. Teams must arrive to the Spirit Stage by 4:00PM to be able to participate and the Lip Sync performances begin at 4:30 PM Entry 100 points 1st Place 300 additional points 2nd Place 200 additional points 3rd Place 100 additional points Each group will be judged by select faculty, staff and alumni based on the following categories: Originality Costumes Choreography Overall Performance Audience Support Mentioning Pepperdine, Waves Weekend, and Blue & Orange! Entry Requirements The Lip Sync music must be supplied on CD and submitted to Hannah Dean at the Seaver Alumni Affairs office at TAC 311 for approval by Wednesday, October 15th at 5:00PM. The roster of the 20 Spirit Cup Team members must also be turned in at this time. Selection of music, theme and choreography should follow the Pepperdine Code of

8 Conduct. Remember...we ll have alumni, administrators and families watching and judging the Lip Sync competition, so please make sure your show is in good taste! Lyrics that contain profanity or that have clear sexual themes will not be permitted. Theme & Genre This year s theme is Happiest Wave on Earth and the genre is Disney Movies. We want your performance to be about a Pepperdine student, faculty, staff, or alumni s view on what makes Pepperdine special. Capture the magic of Pepperdine and take us on a journey to discover this place where dreams come true. *In order for your family and friends to watch you perform, they must register in advance for a ticket to Waves Weekend at

9 Team Registration Teams will consist of 2 or more student organizations and Greek organizations. We will put the organizations that register into teams and announce the pairings on the SAO Facebook page on Saturday, October 11th. Please write in your top three pairing choices including 1 student organizations and 1 Greek organizations. Each team will need to have total participants who will compete in the Spirit Week activities. The team roster must be submitted, along with the Lip Sync music, by Wednesday, October 15th at 5:00PM. 12 Waves Court / Waves King & Queen The Waves King and Queen are Pepperdine Seniors who exemplify the ideals of Pepperdine Spirit Week: enthusiastic school spirit, purpose, service, leadership, and an outstanding love and passion for Pepperdine. They bleed Orange and Blue and emanate Pepperdine spirit wherever they go. On the following page, write your organization s nominees for one King & one Queen*. -Sorority organizations may nominate 1 female -Fraternity organizations may nominate 1 male -Student organizations may nominate both 1 female and 1 male -Return the nominations to Raquelle Pendleton in the SAO office in TAC 311 by Friday, October 10th by 5:00p.m. -Your organization and the entire student body will have the opportunity to vote on the Waves Court nominations through an online survey that will be posted on the SAO Facebook page and sent out to the entire student body via . The survey will be opened on Monday, October 13th and will be closed Wednesday, October 15th at 4:00PM. -The Waves Court will be announced on the SAO Facebook page. -Your organization and the entire student body will have the opportunity to vote for King and Queen through an online survey that will be posted on the SAO Facebook page and sent out to the entire student body via . starting Thursday, October 16th at 8:00AM and ending Friday, October 17th at 4:00PM. -The Waves Court will be presented and the Waves King & Queen will be announced on Friday, October 17th at Blue & Orange Madness in the Firestone Fieldhouse around 8:30PM. -The Waves Court should dress in semi-formal for the presentation at Blue & Orange Madness. -The Waves King and Queen s duties include being hosts at the concert on Saturday, October 18th from 4:00 PM - 9:30 PM at Alumni Park. 14 Orange Crush Tuesday & Wednesday, October 14th-15th at 11am-2pm Location: Table in the Cafeteria Orange Crush* is your chance to show off your Pepperdine pride by bleeding blue & orange! Come to the SAO table on Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 11am-2pm dressed in Pepperdine attire to have your picture taken. The photos will be posted on the SAO Facebook page and the picture with the most likes by Friday, October 17th at 9:00 pm will receive a $100 gift card! Encourage your team members to wear Pepperdine colors throughout Spirit Week. *This competition will be open to all Pepperdine students and will not be part of the spirit week competition. However, spirit week team members are welcome and encouraged to participate!
