In conjunction with this, you will receive an invoice at the start of each term and a newsletter containing any extra news and information relating specifically to that term. Please check the notice board and s regularly; as it is up to you to stay informed. Dance Lab encourages a love and passion for dance in a safe, fun and happy environment. We provide training for students of all ages and abilities with fully qualified and professional teachers. Come along and have fun, meet new friends and learn to dance at Dance Lab. Attending classes at Dance Lab helps to develop a number of skills and abilities such as listening, concentration, self-discipline, self-motivation, goal orientation and group participation. Students from Dance Lab in time benefit from being in good physical condition, strength, stamina and flexibility. At Dance Lab the classes run the same as an academic year, students attend classes from February to December. Enrolments are taken throughout the year depending on class sizes. 3 Dance Lab Aims Dance Lab aims to create a balance between developing student s sound technique whilst nurturing intelligent, creative and curious young people. Dance Lab works co-operatively with students, families, teachers, dance schools and dance organisations to encourage and enhance a good standard and reputation for the dance profession. Dance Lab encourages communication to foster an open and honest environment. Dance Lab demonstrates a professional attitude towards dance including punctuality, reliability and teaching to the best of our ability by ensuring appropriate class sizes and a high standard of technique is being taught. Dance Lab uses appropriate and flexible teaching skills to encourage a productive learning environment, including acknowledging any limitations a student may have, and working appropriately to improve or accommodate the need or to recognize a student s potential and offer guidance and encouragement where needed. General Information and DANCE LAB Policies Students at DANCE LAB are expected to; - Attend class regularly; - Behave in a manner appropriate to a group learning environment; - Show respect toward the teachers and other members of the group; - Only attend Dance Lab for dance lessons; - Arrive before the start time for class; - Wear the correct DANCE LAB uniform; - Be neatly groomed with hair in a bun with no fringe for all classes except Hip Hop, ponytail no fringe. - Jewellery is not be worn in class - Don t bring any food with Nuts, Shellfish or Egg, as we have e anaphylactic students attending the school. Parent/Carers at DANCE LAB are expected to; - Notify the school by phoning or ing if a student will be away; - Check the notice board regularly; - Not to enrol students in other dance schools for general classes we offer; - Not interrupt the teacher/s between or during classes (emergency s excluded). If you would like to make an appointment please phone and leave a message or ; - Will only use the car spaces allocated to DANCE LAB; - Give permission for professional photographs & DVD (concert time only). - Give permission for student s photos and videos to be used and not limited to: social media and print for advertising - All helpers and volunteers are to have current WWCC. Students are not permitted to leave the studio without; - A parent or carer; - Permission of a parent or carer; - The knowledge of a representative of DANCE LAB. Viewing of classes is restricted to; - A new students first class; - Open Days will not be available in 2017, but we will be having an open showcase for class work This will be held at EMC on a Sunday in May date to be confirmed - Prospective students (Prior arrangements must be made with Miss Emily); - Cameras or Video Cameras must not be brought to classes. - ALL PARENTS AND GUESTS MUST SIGN IN AT RECEPTION 3

The first 12 years were spent as an aspiring student while the last 18 have been dedicated to teaching and further study. Emily s training includes Classical Ballet, Neo Classical, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Funk, Hip-Hop, Drama, Singing, Acrobatics and Pilates. She completed the full time Performing Arts course at the Dance Factory and has continued to dance professionally for the next 7 years. Her professional experiences include: P&O Cruises as a Pacific Sky Entertainer, Tivoli Theatre Restaurant as a Singer & Dancer, Fruitopia TVC, Neighbours, Promotechnics, Nintendo Pokemon Tour, Blonde The Movie, Conrad & Co. Pantomimes, Dance Encore Pantomimes & Character Connexion- Pantomimes. Emily s students benefit from her attention to detail, strong and distinctive style and the ability to make learning fun. Students under Emily s tuition have received the highest marks in Southern Federation of Dance examinations and worked professional in the dance industry such as The Wiggles. Dance Lab students have been excepted into extension programs such as SCIMM S, Cecchetti Scholar and Dance Prescription, Melbourne City Youth Ballet to name a couple. 6 Dance Lab Style s offered and information Cecchetti Classical Ballet Classical ballet is the most important training technique used to assist in dance development. Classical ballet strengthens and improves technique and overall dance quality in all styles of dance. A student studying classical ballet will gain poise, grace, body alignment, flexibility, musicality, skill, discipline, creativity and confidence. Classical ballet requires discipline and commitment, but is extremely rewarding. Once a dancer has mastered the wonderful art of ballet the dance options are endless. Jazz A mixture of many things that just keeps evolving cabaret, musicals, film, video clips and ballet. Influences include Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse & Michael Jackson. From Broadway to Hip Hop, just about anything is incorporated into jazz. Hip-Hop Dance Lab has just taken on brand new Hip-Hop to Australia. It s the first examinable syllabus in the country. A hot new way to learn dance to the latest music. Hip Hop and Funk are the latest trends in popular dance and made popular by video clips. It is high energy and heaps of fun. Tap Tap is back and cooler than ever with a new style, street tap. A new generation of tappers have emerged with Australia s own Dein Perry taking it to a new level. Contemporary Contemporary dance pushes the boundaries of dance. It is a highly technical form, requiring alignment, balance, coordination, control, flexibility, strength and stamina. It can follow conventional rules or be completely ground breaking. We recommended a strong background in classical for this class. Stretch class/pilates Stretch classes help to improve core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. Acrobatics/Conditioning Acrobatics is the performance of extraordinary feats of balance, agility, strength, tricks and motor coordination. And enhances dancers to be the best they can be. Exams Students studying Classical study the Cecchetti method, Tap and Jazz will be learning the Southern Federation Of Dance syllabus as well and open work. Students eligible can sit for exams mid-year. Exams incur an extra fee and are not compulsory. All classes provide fun, fitness and confidence in a positive and safe learning environment. 6

A $10 administration fee is added if a deposit is not paid by the due date. - Fees are calculated per student - Classes are not held on Public Holidays - Payment Plans are available must be arrange before due date of invoice. - Dance Lab does not issues refunds for classes missed as you are holding a place in the class, however you are encouraged to enquire about make-up classes. If you are going away for a lengthy period (i.e. more than 3 weeks), a reduced rate can be arranged. Just let us know before the term commences. - All payments must be finalized before the end of each term (if on a payment plan). Places will not be held for students with outstanding balances hour & Unlimited Troupes fees must be paid in full before due date to receive discount. 10 Costumes for Concerts & Troupes - Costumes must be worn for concerts & Comps. Concerts are not compulsory & comps are by invite only. - Costume deposits are required for the concerts. Students attending 1hour class per week are required to pay a deposit of $33 per student. Students attending 2 or more classes per week are required to pay a deposit of $66 or $99 per student. - The deposit is deducted or refunded from the total cost of each student s the costume when costumes are finalized. - There are no refunds on costume deposits - Costumes will not be ordered for students who have paid the deposit in full by the due date or has outstanding fee balance. - Please check all compulsory dates to ensure you are available before you commit to the concert. - The average price of a hired costume varies from $33-$40 - All hired costumes must be returned at the concert Make-Up & Hair for the stage Requirements: Make-up: Heavy base foundation and Powder, Dark Brown eye shadow on lower eyelids and White eye shadow on top of eyelid, up to eyebrow. Black Liquid eyeliner on top of eyelid, above eyelashes, with a small flick continuing towards the eyebrow. Black eye line under ½ the eye, with flick at end. White Eye liner under eye and between side flicks. Black Mascara, pencil in eyebrows in suitable colour. Blush or Broner to Cheek Bones. Line lips with RED, lip liner and fill with RED colour stay lipstick. Please remember stage light are very bright and The Darker the Better. Students in Grade 1 Ballet and Level 3 Jazz / Tap and above will require eyelashes. Students in Pre Primary Ballet and Level 1 Jazz / Tap and above will require diamante earrings *Make-up & Hair is compulsory for photo day, concerts and competitions Helpers for Concerts and Competitions To allow us to put together a smooth running, professional production we do require volunteer parent helpers. Closer to the concert a form will be handed out requesting parents assistance. - Helpers will require a current Volunteers Workers with Children s Check. - A copy of your WWCC must be given to reception and must me carried on you on the day. - We do not allow any parents backstage without this check. - Workers with Children s Checks are available from the post office and Volunteers checks are free of charge. Dance Lab Photo Day Early November we provide an opportunity for the students to be photographed by professional photographers at no obligation to purchase. - Photos in costume are a beautiful record to keep. - Individual photos of each child will be taken, however there s no obligation to purchase. - Photo day is not compulsory. 10
