It is hard to explain how this will vary on paper so the girls will need to pay attention to know where they need to be and when. PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE. Stay up to date on your weekly s. This is the anticipated practice schedule. Meets are usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. A Tentative schedule can be found at the end of this packet.

3 FAQ: How long do meets last? Wednesday meets are usually an hour and a half. 6:00 start with 4:30 arrival. They are usually over between 7:30 and 8pm. Saturday meets are usually 3-4 hours long. They usually start at 9am and go til 1pm with a 7:30am arrival time, 1pm start time with 4pm finish with 11:30 arrival time, or 2pm start time with 5pm finish, 12:30 arrival time. Parents: Show up to meets and SCREAM YOUR HEADS OFF. Obviously not every parent can attend every meet. We know that. We need drivers to and from meets. Meets that are in district girls can drive themselves. Wednesday the girls are asked to stay after school on competition days. We will provide a weekly meal on these days $20. Saturday meets we do a food table that consists of (Sandwiches, chips, pretzels, veggie tray, fruit tray, a case of water, and Gatorade) Parents will need to sign up to donate these items meet to meet. If you cannot donate, you are asked to pay a $30 fee for someone else to go get these items for you. Girls love the food table it definitely keeps them going on Saturdays! 4 Tryout Evaluation Standards Tryouts will consist of the following: 10 count precision drill/learning a Cheer Skills Evaluation (Jumps/Tumbling) What to Bring: Tryout Application, Grades, and Physical dated after What to Wear: Shorts, T-shirt, hair up, Tennis Shoes For competitive cheer it is a 1-day tryout process. Cheerleaders will be evaluated on a : Attitude: Personal Drive, Coach ability, Positive Attitude Motions: Clean, Motion Placement, Stiff and Stick Jumps: Height, Technique, Preps, Leg Placement Flexibility: Switch Splits, Triple Splits, Heel Stretch (Left and Right) Voice: Clarity, Loudness Facials: Smiles, Lack of Fear, Confidence Tumbling: Minor Skill: Round off, Cartwheel, Forward Roll Major Skill: Back Walk-Over, Back Handspring, Back Tuck, Aerial Stunt Ability: Cleanliness, Strength, Stamina, Ability to stunt without moving A few key points for the tumbling portion of the tryout: We want to see your two BEST tumbling skills. However, all tumbling must be warmed up with a spot so that we can ensure you are capable of doing that skill on your own. If, however, during warm-up, the spotter feels that you are not capable of safely performing a skill on your own, we will ask you to do an easier skill. For example: if you can do a backhandspring, but only do it safely with a spotter, you may NOT show us this skill for one of your two tumbling skills. We do this for the safety of our participants. Starting point values vary for skills, and deductions will be assessed for form or technique errors. Participants are asked to choose their two best skills from the following list: forward roll, cartwheel, round off, backwalkover, back handspring and backtuck. They will also be asked to show their triple splits. Participants may also choose to do an optional skill from the following list: Roundoff Backhandspring, Aerial Cartwheel, Roundoff Back handspring back tuck, Standing Back Tuck. REMEMBER: Tryouts are a very necessary step for choosing the sideline cheer teams, but we also hope that participants have fun and stay safe. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask one of the coaches. Remember, that everyone during tryouts is equal, and will be judged equally, so please show other participants, coaches, and judges respect and a positive attitude at all times. Precision Drill precision and execution of all motions. Must be performed as taught and written in the description handouts.

5 Cheer precision and execution of all motions, volume and clarity of vocals, facial expression, timing and rhythm. A skill of your choice must be incorporated. The cheer must be performed as taught. Jumps technique, timing, proper execution, ease (toes are pointed in all jumps) Toe Touch at peak of jump legs are extended in a full forward straddle, arms are extended and hands reach for top of foot and toe, head is up, back is straight Herkie at peak of jump front leg is extended above parallel to the cheering surface and extended to straddle position, back leg is bent (knee to ground toe to ceiling) hands are on hips Hurdler kick right leg up parallel to ground or above, at peak of jump legs are split and back leg is extended behind the body kicking up towards your seat, and the right leg is in front of the body parallel to the cheering surface or above, hands and head must reach for the pointed toes Tumbling level of tumbling skill, execution of skill Cartwheel begins when lead foot initiates inverted rotation. While inverted, legs extend in an X position. Skill is completed when the trail foot lands on the floor. Round-Off begins when hands touch cheering surface. Legs must come together at top of skill. Skill ends when feet touch the cheering surface. Back Handspring begins in a half squat position. Back rotation occurs as hands are placed on the floor. The skill is complete when both feet touch the floor. Back Walkover begins in a standing position. Lead leg starts continuous rotation, hands are placed on the floor, and rotation occurs with legs in extended inverted split position. Skill ends when trail leg returns to floor. Standing Back Tuck the skill begins in a standing position. An uplift, tuck and inverted rotation of the body clear of the floor is performed before landing in a standing position. Flexibility ease and degree of stretch, form, execution Heel Stretch leg is fully extended at 45-degree angle to the side. Arms are in a V position. Hand to foot contact must occur in a held position. Switch Splits begins in squat position with hands on the floor. Legs are extended at right angles to the torso. Toes are pointed. Hands must be removed from floor during the split position. Hands are placed back on floor as hips are switched so that the lead leg is opposite from original split. Once reaching the second split hands are removed from surface and held. Returning to a squat position completes the skill. Triple Splits - begins in squat position with hands on the floor. Legs are extended at right angles to the torso. Toes are pointed. Hands must be removed from floor during the split position. Hands are placed back on floor as hips are switched so that the lead leg is opposite from original split. Once reaching the second split hands are removed from surface and held. Hands are returned to the surface and switched to the middle. Returning to a squat position completes the skill.

6 Competitive Contract When trying out for Competitive Cheer, I understand the following I am expected to be at all practices and events on-time and ready to go. I understand that assigned practice outfits are mandatory in order to be able to practice. This includes my practice bow and my shoes. I understand the program attendance rules (below) and the district athletic code of conduct and I agree to abide by all of them. I understand missing practices could result in my inability to cheer at games or competitions I understand that there is a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate social media behavior. Any unsportsmanlike behavior or foul language could result in disciplinary action. I understand that 9 th -11 th graders can be placed on JV. I understand that 9 th -12 th graders can be placed on Varsity. I understand that previous season team placement has no effect on competitive cheer team placement. I understand that my grades may affect my participation time and that if my grades slip I may be barred from cheering games until my grades have improved. I understand that if I start failing any classes I will be required to do after school tutoring at least one day a week. I understand that I must fill out and submit a vacation request form at the beginning of the season, indicating when my family is unavailable or out of town. I understand that I will have to turn in my cell phone at the beginning of each practice (and at camp) in order to avoid distraction throughout practice. I understand that if I alter my uniform, I will be required to pay for a replacement. I understand that being in uniform means wearing my shell, appropriate body liner, skirt, briefs, bow, socks, & shoes. At no time will I appear in any part of my uniform, without being in the uniform in its entirety (exception: socks and shoes). It also means wearing no jewelry or nail polish, and no acrylic nails. I understand that I am required to wear agreed upon uniform/spiritwear on game days, so that I match all of the other members of the team. This includes not wearing additional items, if the whole team isn t wearing them (example: sweats under my skirt, etc.) I understand that failure to arrive at a game or competitions without any piece of my uniform or required equipment will mean that I will not be allowed to cheer that game or competition. I understand that it is my responsibility to help maintain the practice facilities. This will mean doing my part in rolling up mats and putting away equipment.
