1 M ARCH 13, 2015 The Oak Leaflet A Publication of the Oak Street School PTO SCIENCE & ART EXPO Friday, March 20 The Science Expo is one week from today! Registration is closed and all participating students should have received a confirmation . Please contact Liza Davidov (lizajfarina@yahoo.com) or Shani Lipset (shani_lipset@yahoo.com) if you have not. We are in need of a few more interviewers! Please consider lending a hand on Expo night. Interviewing the kids is a fun and low key way to help out. Be sure to read the attached instructions for project drop off and important Expo information. In addition, ALL students will have an art piece displayed throughout the OSS hallways. Students can also contribute to our community art installations in the cafe. *Donations of yarn and string are needed to create community weavings/string art. Please contact Megan Stolarski meglis@hotmail.com if you can contribute any of these items. WIZARD OF WORDS UPDATE Last Friday, author and illustrator, Daniel Kirk, visited our K-2 grade students. Mr. Kirk authored the Library Mouse series and Snow Dude. The children listened to an interesting presentation on writing and illustrating. They also enjoyed a visit from the Library Mouse himself, Sam. Due to the snow day, the Wizard of Words presentation for students in grades 3-5 had to be rescheduled. Author Sarah Weeks will visit Oak Street School on Thursday, March 26th. Books ordered from Ms. Weeks will be distributed at that time. FAMILY READING NIGHT A WILD SUCCESS! Thank you to our exceptional teachers, Oak Street staff, 4th and 5th grade volunteers, parent volunteers, and to everyone who attended our 14th annual Family Reading Night; it was a great success! We appreciated all the help everyone provided throughout the night. We feel very fortunate to have such amazing and talented teachers and families at Oak Street School. See you next year! 3 Page 3 GIRL SCOUTS, DAISIES HELPING ST. HUBERT'S ANIMAL CENTER Please help Junior Girl Scout Troop and Daisy Troop on their quest to obtain an Animal Shelter Patch by fulfilling the wish list for St. Hubert's Animal Shelter in Madison. It is the girls passion to help these animals which are not as fortunate as all of us to be in a loving home with food and shelter at all times. Collection bins will be set up by the Main Office and by the Oak Street entrance beginning Monday, March 9th for 2 weeks. The items with the most priority are as follows: * Canned cat and kitten food (ground, no fish) * Canned dog and puppy food * Pedigree or purina brand dog and cat food (wet and dry) * Soft treats * Blankets and towels * Scoopable/clumping kitty litter Enrichments items include: * Kongs * Hard dog toys * Nylabones * Petsmart, Petco, or Pet Valu gift cards * Supermarket gift cards This is just a list provided to us, however any small contribution will make a big difference in the lives of these animals. Please consider helping the girls with this great cause. If you have any questions please call or either Robin Prince at (973) , Princefam5@optonline.net or Stephanie Orr at (732) , Sorr2@mac.com.
