2 Power Dancers Dance Team Dear Power Dancer Hopeful, We are so excited that you are interested in becoming a member of the University of Texas at Dallas Power Dancers. Being a Power Dancer provides women with an opportunity to share a common bond and a close relationship with others. Learning what it means to work closely with others and sharing in accomplishments and frustrations are all part of the sisterhood of Power Dancers. To be chosen as a Power Dancer is an honor! To remain an active Power Dancer, one must maintain a certain level of dance ability, keep in good and attractive physical shape, and uphold all guidelines established for the Power Dancer organization. Being on the Dance Team means being a member of a team, a team that works together and dances together! Leadership of a team is important and members often have the opportunity to cultivate and demonstrate leadership abilities. The Power Dancer organization is a proud group. Not only do they provide service to their school with the support of the faculty, administration, and other groups on campus, but they also provide a source of great school spirit to UT Dallas. Power Dancers provides a real opportunity for one to exert initiative, leadership, and creativity. Performing before an audience helps to develop self-assurance and poise. Commitment and dedication to Power Dancers is required of anyone who has the privilege of making the team. Participation in this organization is the highlight of college for many. There will be many good times, some glory and recognition, but a member must conform and make sacrifices. Being selected as a Power Dancer is an outstanding achievement, but is a commitment that must be taken seriously. We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of you through the audition process. 3 To answer your questions What do I wear? On the first day of auditions, please wear any comfortable dance clothing (dance pants, crop tops, sports bras), and dance shoes (jazz shoes or dance sneakers). During finals, you must wear long black dance pants (no capri/cropped pants or bike shorts); any solid colored fitted tank top or sports bra (you may double up for extra support), dance shoes (no brightly colored or white socks), and full hair & make-up. How do I know if I m eligible to be a Power Dancer? You must meet these requirements: 1. Be enrolled at UTD as a full-time student (minimum of 12 hours or 6 hours for graduate students) 2. Be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA 3. Be currently insured under a medical policy 4. Be in compliance with all applicable provisions of the constitution and bylaws of the NCAA and UTD What do I need to bring? Application Copy of current medical insurance card Current UTD registration Comet Card Signed Participation Waiver Power Dancers Agreement form Non-returnable head shot of yourself What are you looking for? We are looking for general appearance, ability to execute movements well, showmanship, knowledge and memory of the routines, timing, unison, and an overall dynamic impression. Energy and spirit are by far the most important aspect when performing, so show your personality, give it your all, and most of all have fun! What are the Expenses? Besides being a positive representation of UT Dallas, one of the other privileges of being a Power Dancer, is that we will provide you with most of the necessary supplies dance shoes, dance bag, dance pants, uniforms, warm-ups, etc. This means we are proud and grateful for your commitment and want to compensate you for your time & dedication! So, fortunately, there should not be any significant outside costs to you. With that said, our investment means we expect you to uphold your responsibility to the team. Not doing your due diligence may be subject to a fine which will in turn reimburse the costs that were expended for you. For example, early termination on your behalf would be considered a reason for not upholding your responsibility as a team member.

4 How much time does Power Dancers require? Membership: Your membership as a UTD Power Dancers is a commitment from the date in which you have been chosen through to the following year of auditions (ex: Fall 2013-Fall 2014). Practices: Power Dancers strives to have quality practices. Practices in the fall will be at least 2 times a week (subject to change). Extra sessions will be held as needed. Summer practice as well as summer performances and events are required; time specifications for these will be established as activities and school schedules become available. It is also expected that members be self-motivated and fit. Including a weekly workout in your schedule is highly recommended. Working out includes, but is not limited to weight lifting, aerobic classes, running, swimming, etc. Performances: The Power Dancers have great responsibility on campus. We perform at all home basketball games, both women and men s. We do special appearances on campus, such as summer orientations, Welcome Week, homecoming, Scholar s Day, talent shows, and more. We do parades and rallies within the community as well. Being a Power Dancer gives members the privilege to do what dancers do best PERFORM! As you will be a pacesetter on campus, you will need to find time to practice, to have fun, to sleep, to study, and to engage in various campus activities. Power Dancers in no way interferes with classes, or scholastic work, if you organize your time well! What is your expectation? If you are selected to be a Power Dancer, you will be in the limelight on campus, and you will need to act accordingly. Leaders on campus must set the pace both in and out of uniform. You are the face of UTD Spirit and we hold a high standard of being a positive role model to the community as a whole. The fun of being a Power Dancer will not be fulfilled if you fail in any of these obligations.

5 Audition Clinic 1. Hopefuls must attend the entire audition clinic to be eligible for membership. If there is a true emergency or extenuating circumstance, please speak with the Coach to make alternate arrangements. 2. Hopefuls must have their completed application, turned in picture, completed agreement form, copy of UTD fall registration, copy of current medical insurance card, and a filled out medical release form to be eligible for membership. 3. If at any time throughout the audition process a potential dance team member displays a negative or disrespectful attitude, the Captains of the Power Dancers reserve the right to alert the Coach. Despite the scores given, such a display of misconduct can and will affect membership eligibility. 4. On Tuesday, after skills/technique have been performed and the tryout routine has been reviewed, the Coach and Captains will briefly interview each candidate. 5. Wednesday night will be the final audition date. Please do NOT be late as this will result in a 5 point deduction on your overall score! 6. The decisions of the new members are final. If there are any disputes, they must be brought straight to the Advisor and Coach, NOT to the Captains. 7. Once the new members have been chosen, the new members will be announced. 8. New members will be notified of the exact date and time of their first practice.
