Alicia Romano had 50 points and Rachel Dober froze her chair without error for 70 points by question 12. That put Living Faith in the spot of needing all three remaining questions. Leah Zambron came through on question 13 to keep Living Faith in the hunt, but Alicia froze her chair without error on question 14 to seal the championship. Living Faith 70; Living Word RRA 170; Justified Thru Faith 0 him and froze his chair for the win. OC Repeats As Varsity Champs Varsity jumped that li le bit faster than the other divisions and hence a lot more errors. No one scored until question five when Ma Kauzlarich put OC My Brothers on the board, quickly followed by 20 more from teammate Adam Steinbrenner. OC Pure Joy kept it close with a freebee on nine by Laura Winningham followed by 20 from Rachel Schatz. It was still anyone s quiz after Ma Chegash scored 20 on question 12 for HPBC, which was once more in the Finals its eighth consecutive appearance. OC Pulls Out Tight JV Win Adam locked up the repeat championship for his team with another 20 on 13 and a freebee on 14B. Rachel secured second place for her team on the last question. OC My Brothers 70; OC Pure Joy 50; HPBC Once More 20 Graham Wojtas froze his chair without error and Josh Kauzlarich added 20 to pace OC to a lead after question five. But Heritage, last year s runner-up, looked like it might avoid a repeat second-place as Rebecca Wilson and Alicia Herrington each scored 40 points and Rachel Jarvie added an important 20 for a team bonus. 2 Tidbits Firsts of the Season. No first time scorers this month, but honorable mention goes to John Bourque, a rookie on the Li le League FCC Extreme Team, who at last got the first jump of his young career. Congratulations on the effort, John. Varsity team I Heart His Mother got its first and only first-place finish of the season and got its first third-person jumping bonus and Olympic score bonus in the process of winning. Rumor has it that the promised reward for the third-person bonus is a meal at Your Mothers in Mt. Clemens. Some Thoughts on Seeing All Those Seniors on Stage. Hopefully we will still see more of some of them as coaches, quizmasters and/or steering commi ee members (or even as quizzers for another year or two); Most of them qualified for Chicago what an example to underclassmen that it s possible not only to quiz as a senior but to do well; Will they be replaced by new quizzers or will numbers be down next season? Hint: it s never too early to promote quizzing and recruit new people. Don t put those quiz boxes away for the summer keep them handy for demonstration purposes. Check the DBQ web site for resources and recruiting ideas, such as the promotional video. Haiku of the Month. Ben also got a freebee on 7. Teammate Luke Rouser got the next two, pu ing Not Lying up by 50 points. Rosie picked up number 11 for UPS and Joann Schatz answered number 12 for Consider It. Not Lying got their first error on 13, and Alex picked up the toss-up. Luke got a freebee on 14B, making the score But wait! Joann tied the score on 15. Luke got the nod on question 16, answered correctly and froze his chair without error to win the quiz for Not Lying. CP Not Lying K-Disputable Ma ers 90; CP Is Any1Happy? 140; SG Without Excuse 20 Yeha Youm and Ellie Kitchen dominated this quiz, each freezing without error and giving the Cornerstone team reason to be happy. Rookie Samantha Bedore scored all 90 points for Knox, helping her bid to qualify for Chicago and the Most Improved Quizzer Award (she also jumped 11 places in the standings from 46 to 35). 5 More Junior Varsity Quizzing Action Faithful Clay 60; Hillside Quiz Knows 40; Huron Hillbillies 80 Scoring in this quiz came in spurts between errors, a empts and passed questions. Faithful Clay s David Skelton and the Hillbillies Christian Pederson scored on questions 4 and 5. The Quiz Knows rookies Hannah Simasko and Lindsey Marsh scored on questions 10 and 11. Then David and Christian each added 20 more points for their respective teams, tying the score all up at 40. On question 14, David picked up a blue ribbon. No one jumped on question 15. For question 16, Christian Pedersen got his blue ribbon, tying for first place. On question 17, rookie John Williams answered correctly to give the Hillbillies the victory. Heritage Not Controlled JV Finals Second Place Heritage Not Controlled 160; Hillside Wesleyan Quiz Knows Calvary No Water Added 0; FC Don t Panic 40 Rebecca Wilson scored 80, Alicia Herrington 30 and Rachel Jarvie 40 to give the out-ofcontrol Heritage team 12 Olympic points. Frozen chairs without error for Caleb Sinclair and rookie Nicholas Skelton, plus 20 points for Leah Zambron, put Living Faith solidly in the lead and gave them 12 Olympic points. Alicia Romano scored 70 for Living Word, with teammate Rachel Dober adding 50 points for second place but the tables would turn in the finals.
