We got a lot accomplished, such as a stage floor re-built, paint in at least 3 of the stages including The Crooked Bullet Factory, and some cleanup. Bent Star pulled out some old targets we haven t used in a while, and got them ready for our Halloween Match. I made a mistake of not writing down all the names of helpers on work day, and now I can t remember who all was there. I do remember there was, Two gun Johnnie, Doc Brazos, Choctaw Al, Crooked Bullet, Brazos Belle, Rio Hondo Rob, Chula Kat, Hot Tamale, Cowtown Jack, Red Coneston, Shotgun Sheri, Pap, Millsap Gunslinger, Justin Parker, Rusty Colts, and I think maybe one more I can t remember. Be sure and tell me if I forgot your name at the next match. And speaking of the next match at Lone Star, we will hold an election for officers at the November match. I hope you got to attend the Halloween match this year, we had more shooters than last year, and we gave away door prizes and Belt Buckles to everyone that shot. Hang on to those Belt Buckles their one of a kind, special-edition commemorative FROM The CVV President Billy Bob Evans SASS# Hi everyone! I have just a ccouple announcements. First, I have been asked what we are doing for the December match with Saturday being Christmas. Well, we will NOT have the Saturday match in December but we WILL have a Sunday match. Second, every one who shows up for the Sunday match in December gets to shoot for $5.00. If all goes as planned we should have our new shotgun targets. Next, nomination of officers will take place in November and officers are elected in December. As I indicate in past newsletters Denton Dancer and Calico Calie are not coming back a Secretary and Treasurer. I want to continue as President and Old Bob wants to continue as VP. For the vacant positions, Red Coneston wants to run for Treasurer, and Ruthie, Sweet Bulla s daughter wants to run for Secretary. In the last news letter I indicated, I was thinking of splitting the Secretary position in to two, but after talking with our current board, I based that on what Denton Dancer does. He reminded me that he has been doing both the Secretary and Range Officers job and that the Secretary job is not that bad when you remove the Range Offers tasks.

I hope you enjoyed Bent Star s swinging pistol target, and crooked Bullet s moving ghost, not to mention the swinging pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. Oh yeah, I almost forgot; we gave away four guns too. For just a two day match, there was a lot of shooting involved, between ten main stages, side matches, wild Bunch (3) stages, a team event, man on man, a shot gun shoot, and a chili contest (which I should have won) new judges next time! Once again thanks to all the people that made it happen, Chula Kat, Crooked Bullet, Brazos Belle, Two Gun Johnnie, Texas Banker, Black powder Hayes, Justin Parker, Goatneck Clem, Doc Brazos, Alabama Bill, Bent Star, Pap, Red Coneston, Shotgun Sheri, Giggles, Willie Earp, Hot Tamale, Cowtown Jack, Rusty Colts, Diamond Dagger, and Choctaw Al. Billy Bob Evans CONTINUED Now that we have Justin Parker as our Range Officer there is no need to split the Secretary position. It would be better to split the VP position to where we would have a 1st VP and 2nd VP. To split the VP position, it will require us to amend our bylaws and at the November match, I will provide an updated draft for review and we will vote on the update before the election of Officers. I am going to think positive that the amendment will pass. So for VP we will have Old Bob wanting to return as out 1st VP and Sidewinder Sid running for 2nd VP.

3 From YouR Territorial Governor (TG) Goody, LSFSC-TG It s that time of year again! Below is a list of the rule change proposal for the TG Summit. Please read and decide what you want to do. We will discuss these briefly at the November shoot. If you have an opinion and will not be at the November shoot, feel free to comment to me at my or by phone. Item 1 Should we eliminate the 10-second minor safety penalty for overloading a RIFLE? This will do away with the double penalty for overloading a rifle at the loading table; and then leaving the extra live round(s) in the long gun. Penalties for leaving unfired rounds in the rifle would still apply but, if a shooter overloaded the rifle, they could clear it within the current rules and not be charged a penalty. This rule change would not make the rifle any less safe. Note this only applies to a rifle and NOT to a revolver or shotgun. Should the following Minor Safety Penalty be deleted? Loading more than the correct number of live rounds in a firearm. Item 2 Should we change the rule regarding empties left on the carrier or in the chamber of a long gun? An unfired round in the chamber would continue to carry a Stage Disqualification penalty and an unfired round anywhere else in the action or magazine a 10 second minor safety. This change would eliminate all penalties for EMPTY rounds in the chamber or action of long guns. Should the MSV penalty for leaving an EMPTY case/hull in a long gun be deleted? Item 3 Should we create the new sanctioned shooting category Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter? The category would follow the firearm and ammo guidelines of the current Frontier Cartridge category and follow the shooting style and holster requirements of the current Gunfighter Category. The main reason to add FCGF to the list of "officially recognized" categories is that it brings the BP categories up to par with the smokeless ones in regard to available shooting styles. Smokeless = Open/age-based (twohanded); Duelist/Senior Duelist/Classic (one-handed); Gunfighter/B-Western (both hands) Black Powder = Frontier Ctg (twohanded); Frontiersman/Frontier Ctg Duelist (one-handed); FCGF (both hands) Item 4 The Burgess Rifle is a SASS legal firearm. It was patented in Should the rifle regulations for B- Western be changed as follows to allow the earliest rifle to be from 1880 instead of present 1884? Rifles: Any SASS legal rifle of 1880 or later design or a replica thereof (i.e. Burgess, Lightning, 1892, 1894 Winchester or Marlin). We could have an extra bonus when Larry's daughter, Carly, comes out to shoot at Ormsby Ranch. She's a very promising new shooter, attending the Oct 23 rd New Shooters' Clinic at ASC. Z Shooter"?), and a return of one of our older shooters, Dr. Ronnie Edwards (a.k.a. the "Bronc Doctor", a fellow DVM of "Doc Brazos") It's really gratifying to see y'all comin' on out to Ormsby! We hope to see ya' comin' back again, real soon. Keep bringing in those back issues of your SASS Cowboy Chronicle. We are collecting them on the upper shelf, just inside the clubhouse door, to give to new-shooter prospects that come out to see us.
