Well done to the students for a great start to the term and to the teachers for ensuring that great start. MUSIC Our new keyboard and vocal tutor (Madeleine) started with lessons this term. She is teaching on Mondays and still has times available. If you are interested for your child, please see the flyer in this newsletter for information and contact details. NEWSLETTER Don t forget that if you wish to continue receiving hard copies of our newsletter, you will need to let us know at the office. There is also a reply slip in this newsletter or at the office. FUNDRAISING MEETING There will be a fundraising team meeting on Monday the 30th of April at 9:30am in the staffroom. Ideas for our Annual Major Fundraiser will be discussed. All parents are welcome - we would love your input. THANKYOU Thankyou to the Spratling family for endlessly organising the Coles Vouchers boxes at the supermarkets and stores. They could often be seen outside the office, surrounded in a mountain of vouchers as they folded and counted them. Thankyou also to all of our parents who donated vouchers. Thankyou to Ken Ramage, my father, who kindly made the apple cart which is outside the office. The bags of apples look great on the cart. Next week pears will also be available for a trial period. ANZAC DAY To commemorate ANZAC day this year, some of our school leaders will be attending the RSL Service at the Memorial Stone in ANZAC Memorial Park in Hurstbridge where they will lay a wreath on behalf of the Panton Hill Primary Community. The service is this Saturday at 9:00am. All grades have been discussing the significance of ANZAC day and have made their own class wreaths. These will be laid under our flag on Friday in a very small school ceremony.

SCHOOL PHOTOS All families should have received the school photos this week. There are also photos available for purchase of the School Leaders Team, Junior School Council and a whole school photo.

SRI We have been advised that SRI will be commencing on Monday 30th April for those children who have returned their notes. SRI lessons will be held on Mondays from 1:20-1:55.

The schoolyard emptied out very quickly, as the kids were all very eager to get over to the park and start searching for eggs. A great way to end the term.

All students have been issued with usernames and passwords. All books read in 2018 can be included on the student s list.

CFA EASTER HUNT Thanks to the CFA for once again running the Easter Egg hunt at Memorial Park on the last day of last term. VICTORIAN PREMIER S READING CHALLENGE The Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge is now open and Panton Hill Primary School is excited to again be participating. All students have been issued with usernames and passwords. All books read in 2018 can be included on the student s list. Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or experience 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books All children who meet the challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll. Please return the privacy and consent form, for your child to be included on the honour roll. For more information about the Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge and to view the booklists, visit: PHPS Bookclub - A word from Will and Callum As winter draws closer we have noticed that more students wish to read in the warmth of the library so, on the 25th of April, the PHPS Book Club will return in the library on Wednesdays. This will help students get the Premiers Reading Challenge book numbers up. Kind Regards, Will and Callum USEFUL RESOURCES 1. Victorian families are now able to access the latest parenting tips, advice and guidance with the release of a new interactive smartphone app. The free MCH app, which has been launched by the Victorian Government, gives families access to comprehensive information matched to the age range of their child. 2. Parenting Anxious Kids is an online course offered through Parenting Ideas which we use at school for relevant articles. I have included a flyer in this newsletter for anyone interested in the course. BREAKFAST It appears that we have some students coming to school without having eaten breakfast. This has a marked impact on children s ability to function both physically, mentally and emotionally. Children who have eaten breakfast can concentrate better and have a longer attention span, helping them to learn and study better. They can also perform better physically after eating breakfast as there is more energy available to their muscles. Breakfast can improve behaviour and mood, as children have better concentration and aren t tired or hungry. Australian Red Cross BOOK BOAT The recent holidays were the perfect opportunity to sit in the sun with a good book and now that it s getting a bit cooler, it will be the perfect opportunity to curl up in front of a fire with a good book. There s never a day when it s not perfect for reading! There are lots of great books in our book boat for you to come and grab. We now have a mixture of novels and some parenting/non-fiction books as well. No cost or donation necessary. Just choose a book and you re all set, ready to find that reading opportunity. PAST STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS We are very proud, not only of our current PHPS students but also our past students. We have two students this year who are currently in Year 12 and have been elected School Captains: Jasmine Grisold (Warrandyte High School) and Ethan Stuart (Diamond Valley College). We are not surprised that they should be selected for these positions and are very proud. Over the holidays, I enjoyed listening to a fantastic ep by our past PHPS student Amie Grisold. She has a beautiful voice and writes her own music and performs locally. Her ep is called Spun and is available on itunes. It s really worth a listen. We are thrilled to hear of Maddie Cooke s recent success at the Special Olympics in Adelaide. She won two gold medals in equitation and dressage and two bronze medals in working trails and games.

She is now waiting on confirmation to attend the World Games in Abu Dhabi.

She had a very successful championship. Overall she got champion in the preliminary dressage, champion showhunter and 6th on a different horse in preliminary and 4th in novice. She had the highest overall score, culminating in her winning the Nan Macarthur Award. This is something that Ava has been working towards for many years. Well done Ava, fantastic effort. Keeping with the LPC principals of making it fun and getting kids performance ready, LPC s new tutor Madeleine will be available for lessons each Monday. Private lessons are $30 for 30 minutes with a 10% discount offered for full term paid in advance. Joint lessons (2 students) $20 for 30 minutes with a 10% discount offered for full term paid in advance.
