We spent several days at North Myrtle Beach, watching our grandson play golf. He didn't play all that well, but this was a special event. You see, his Dad (our son) played in this tournament every year until he aged out. It was cold and rainy, but our hearts were warm. While dining at our beloved OD Arcade, we noticed a large structure in the parking lot behind the Pirates Cove. It was the largest tent I have ever seen! We were told it was OD Shag Club. They were having an Oyster Roast fundraiser for The American Cancer Society. I hope they raised a ton of money! Well done! We also attended. Mixed doubles dance competition at Saville's. Unbeknownst to us, Debbie Green and Terry Turbyfill were competing. It was fun to watch peeps from the 704 area code! Donnie and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Christmas Party. Don't forget your Toys for Tots! Lucky to be your Prez, Del 2018 Officers President Del Meadows Vice-President Donnie Warren Secretary Pat Hensley Treasurer Marianna Hass
2 2 Page 2 Happy Thanksgiving! Well, this little article is a bit out of the norm for me. I was planning on doing an article about one of the musical groups that I so enjoy playing their music but this past weekend I had a change of heart. While attending a junior golf tournament at Myrtle Beach to watch my favorite golfer, my grandson, I had the humbly experience that sort of changed the way I look at some of these young kids. On Friday there was a group playing in front of my grandson's group that had a kid that seemed to be playing at rather a slow pace and had the whole course backed up. My grandson not playing well at the time had old pawpaw Fish not in a good way. As some of you may know I'm a rather competitive guy at times (Ha Ha) and was probably putting a little pressure on the grandson. After watching the group in front and noticing something wasn't quite right with one of the young boys, I was told the boy had Tourette's Syndrome and was partially deaf. If you have attempted to play golf before you know how difficult a game this can be, but this young kid was giving it 110% to compete in a game that's difficult enough without any disabilities. The two boys with him were patience and kind in helping him and playing their best. After a Five hour round we had finished, as did the young man in front of us also an accomplishment in itself. The next day with drizzling rain my grandson had this young man in his group. It was this kid of Asian descent had no parent or guardian with him, a Washington DC kid and my grandson, but all ready to go and do the best they could. By the time they had finished the first hole the heavy rains came. Watching this young man between shots and trying to set up to the ball, I realized how lucky I am to have a healthy grandson. They only played one hole that last day before the rain washed us out. On that second hole trying to get this young man back to the clubhouse I felt would be a chore but a golf cart with a cover pulled up beside of us, my grandson jumped out and gave this young man his dry seat back to the clubhouse while we walked, got soaked but how good it made me feel! The game of golf is nothing compared to the game of Life! Drying out and feeling Blessed and Thankful! Happy Thanksgiving! Fish 2
