1 Patriot Times Red, White, & News! VOLUME 8, ISSUE 9 OCTOBER 26, 2017 Red Ribbon Week Fills the School with Excitement! Here at RLBMS the Red Ribbon Week is in full swing! We have had so many wonderful, creative ideas. On Monday, we saw students wear neon colors and sunglasses for I m too bright for drugs. On Tuesday, students wore crazy clothes, hair, and socks for From head to toe, I m too bright for drugs. On Wednesday, students dressed as super heroes or personal heroes for Real Heroes Don t Do Drugs. On Thursday, students wore camouflage for Wage War Against Drugs or Camouflage Day. On Friday, students celebrated Winners Don t Do Drugs and dressed in school colors or like their favorite sports team. By: Alexis Burkhammer and Morgan Thayer Students and teachers participated in Red Ribbon Week.

Sandwiches Favorite sport: Football and Baseball Favorite teacher or person: Mrs. Wine-Queen Banana Cream Parfaits Recipe from daisybrand.com INGREDIENTS 2 cups milk 3 ounce package banana pudding mix (not instant) 2/3 cup sour cream 2 tablespoons powdered sugar 12 vanilla wafers 1 medium banana, sliced DIRECTIONS Combine the milk and the pudding mix in a 1 1/2-quart saucepan. Cook as directed on the package. Pour the pudding into a small bowl; place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface of the pudding. Refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours. When ready to serve, mix the sour cream and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Crumble two of the wafers into the bottom of four dessert dishes. Spoon about 1/4 cup of the pudding over the crumbled cookies. Place a single layer of the bananas over the pudding, reserving a few slices for garnish. Spread the sour cream mixture evenly over the bananas. Top each serving with the remaining pudding, about 1/4 cup each. Garnish each dish with a vanilla wafer and a couple banana slices. Optional: vanilla pudding mix may be substituted for banana pudding mix.

October 30th is the tryouts for girls basketball, if you are interested. November 6th is tryouts for boys basketball and wrestling. If you want to play any of the following sports, you must have a sports physical dated after June 1st. The first home basketball game will be November 30. Facts About Concussions by Drew Cayton and Damien Bonnett For about 9 in 10 people with concussions, symptoms disappear within 7 to 10 days. People who suffer from concussions generally fully recover quickly. However, in some cases, symptoms can last for days or weeks. A concussion is a mild form of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head. A concussion can also be caused by violent movement or jarring of the head or neck. Loss of consciousness is thought to occur in less than 10% of concussions. The most common causes of concussions are sports injuries (football, hockey, rugby, basketball, etc.), bicycle accidents, car accidents, and falls. In certain severe concussions, symptoms can linger for weeks or even months, due to a complication called post concussion syndrome.
