Bodedern success at the Urdd National Eisteddfod The school is very proud of all students who took part in the Urdd National Eisteddfod whether by representing the school, Aelwyd yr Ynys or the Higher department. Two who won in competitions in Bridgend was Elain Rhys yr.13 and her sister Glesni of yr.10. Elain won the harp under 19 years and Glesni won the singing competition for under 19 years. Glesni Rhys Jones, winner of the singing competition for under 19 years.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Thanks to the Authority's youth workers Sioned Sawicz, Sharon Bibby and Dylan Jones for training many Year 10 pupils for the Duke of Edinburgh award. During the Whitsun half term, a number of them took part in an expedition along the coast of Anglesey, by camping outdoors. An extra challenge was carrying all the gear on their backs. Congratulations to the following for completing the challenge: Leah Woolley, Ella Stanley, Ellie Owen, Emily Austin, Noah Would, Huw Evans, Lewis Riley, Owen Cain Roberts, Chantelle Jones and Louise Thomas.

The Yr. 10 Boys Athletics Sports Team have reached the Snowdonia round Mr Tom Williams thanked the team for their efforts in the competition and special congratulations to Liam Young for receiving the first prize in the discus, Jack Evans first in the weight and David Williams first in the high jump. Well done lads!

Thank You! With the academic year coming to an end, the hard work of the school council continues. One recent task was to help the assembly to find the views of pupils across Wales about establishing an all-wales Youth Parliament. Thanks to officers of the assembly and to our assembly representative Mr Rhun ap Iorwerth for visiting to seek the views of our pupils regarding local political issues- from the rights of individuals under 16, to the authority s recycling procedures. The school council s next task is to respond to the authority s consultation on the library service. The climate of cuts, the council is fully aware of the impact on them. The hope is that a member of the school council is going to represent us at the Wales Youth Parliament.

Attendance The school campaign for improving pupil attendance continues. We continue to target pupils and supporting families with attendance percentages that cause concern but it is also important to recognise good attendance! This time it was 9A who received Mr Griffiths breakfast. 9Alaw had the biggest average percentage between 2 survey s. Well done!

Alzheimer s UK Following a request from Elen, Annest, Ceri, Ffion, Elliw and Ellie from year 10, we held a coffee morning and raffle to raise money for the charity Alzheimer's UK. Thanks to the hard work the girls, they raised over 166 for the charity, with the prospect of more to come. In the photo we see the girls selling cakes to Jack and Elin from year 7.

Congratulations to our pupils for their individual and county successes in Young Farmers rally. In addition, it was good to hear that Anglesey came 6th in the competition at the Anglesey Show Field. Congratulations to Sion Emlyn and Jack Lander of year 13 and David Phillips of year 11. All three have been accepted as apprentices to work for Horizon in September. It is understood that they have been chosen from about 300 applicants. It was great to hear about the success of Matthew Jones from year 11 who has been selected to the Wales team trials for the under 16 rugby league. Good luck Mathew. The school recently had the privilege of hosting the Primary Schools Urdd Athletics competition on our fields. Thanks to prospective GCSE PE students, who assisted as stewards on the day. The school works closely with the Urdd, and this year there will be an opportunity for year 8 pupils to attend a week of activities at the Urdd camp at Glan Llyn. Good luck to Hannah Jones and Courtney Williams competing in gymnastics competitions and Ceri Thomas competing in football matches in the islands games to be held in Gotland, Sweden. As advertised in the communication books Urdd members have an opportunity to enjoy games and fun activities with Seiriol and Rhodd. The club will continue every Tuesday lunchtime until the end of the Term.
