1 An Environment for Effective Teaching & Learning Volume 2, Issue 13 12/13/18 HAUPPAUGE HIGH SCHOOL FALL STUDENT-ATHLETES SIGN THEIR COMMITMENTS! Nine Hauppauge High School Senior Student-Athletes recently committed to continue their Athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level next year. Dan Butler, Athletic Director, said We offer our sincere congratulations to these outstanding individuals, their families and coaches and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. 2 FOREST BROOK FIRST AND THIRD GRADERS ARE ON THE CASE! On Friday, December 7th, Forest Brook first graders and third graders held an end-of-the-unit celebration. The third graders in Rivera s, Braglia s, Gandolfo s and Irvine s classes have been reading about mysteries. The first graders in Govits, Classey s and Clarkin s classes have worked on being word detectives. On entering the hallway, Classey and Clarkin were singing a song along with their class to the same tune as the Ghostbusters song. They sang, What you gonna do? Look closely. Govits said, The first graders are armed with their word detective badges, magnifying glasses to look at the words closely and their strategies. They were working on clues to solve words. In the mystery unit, the third-graders learned about clues, red herrings, witnesses, suspects and detectives. Govits said, The students are seeing that what they have learned in first grade will come around again and be something they will carry on in third grade. This was a wonderful celebration of learning and the students were very happy to work together! Look Closely! 3 FOREST BROOK ADVANCED CHORUS VISITS THE ARBORS OF HAUPPAUGE AND BRINGS LOTS OF HOLIDAY CHEER TO THEIR RESIDENTS! Forest Brook Elementary School s advanced chorus brought lots of holiday cheer to the residents of The Arbors on Expressway Drive South in Hauppauge today. Led by music teacher Gina Koehler, the students transformed the room into a holiday wonderland! The students arrived at The Arbors dressed in their holiday funnest! There were Santa hats, lots of fun headbands, Christmas light necklaces and holiday sweaters, shirts and dresses. Programs were distributed to the audience so they could sing along. The first song was a Polar Express Medley, and that was followed by: Hot, Hot (Say We Got It!) Hot Chocolate Winter Fantasy Jingle Bells Let It Snow Deck the Halls Clean the Halls Santa Claus is Coming to Town Winter Wonderland Hanakkah Frosty the Snowman Dreidl A Holly Jolly Christmas The Chipmunks Song Hanakkah is Here Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Jingle Bell Rock The Twelve Days of Christmas We Wish You a Happy Holiday Singing Along! Jingle bells filled the room during some of the songs and the kids had fun with some hand movements. 4 MIDDLE SCHOOL EIGHTH-GRADER WINS POSTER CONTEST Mr. Wankmuller recently congragulated Middle School eighth-grader, Navya Gautam. Navya was recognized by the Long Island Chapter of the New York Water Environment Association for having the top poster out of 873 submissions. The theme of the contest was Conserve and Protect our Water. Congratulations Navya on this wonderful achievement! Hauppauge High School s Varsity Cheerleaders competed this past weekend. They took first place in their competition. The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders placed second. Congratulations! 5 HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYER NAMED IN NEWSDAY S 25 GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS TO WATCH IN Lauren Romito received quite an honor yesterday. Newsday has named her one of the 25 Girls Basketball Players to Watch in Lauren was described as follows in Newsday, Lauren Romito is a post player who blocks shots and plays stellar defense for the defending Suffolk Class A Champs.
