1 Veteran s Victory Velo and Hopfest Sponsorship Summary Dougherty Valley/San Ramon Rotary Presents: Veteran s Victory Velo and Hopfest Saturday, September 20, Camino Ramon, San Ramon, CA Starting in 2014, the Dougherty Valley/San Ramon Rotary Club is joining forces with Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation, to host two of the most significant local fundraising events of the year as a combined day- long event on September 20, The DVSR Rotary Club has enjoyed a strong and lasting relationship with Sentinels of Freedom over the past several years, with two of their participating veterans as members of our club. By combining forces on what will be our signature event for years to come, we have created a new and significant opportunity for local and regional organizations and individuals to sponsor two of the most vibrant charitable foundations in the San Ramon area. Numerous sponsorship opportunities are included in this packet, all of which will provide our sponsors with an opportunity to build positive exposure while contributing to vital charitable causes related to education and veterans. As in previous years, the Veteran s Victory Velo (V3) bicycle ride will be held for serious and recreational cyclists alike to help severely wounded veterans through the Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation ( There will be three different rides to choose from ranging from a 30- mile recreational ride, a 60- mile intermediate ride, or the now famous 100- mile Devil Mountain Century Ride over Mount Diablo. At the conclusion of the ride early on the afternoon of the 20th, ride participants will be invited to remain in the finishing area, and will be joined by other residents of our area for the second annual Hopfest Celebration benefiting the DVSR Rotary Foundation ( This celebration will include a wide variety of food, music, fun activities, and of course the opportunity to taste some of the premier craft brews from northern California. 7 Veteran s Victory Velo and Hopfest Sponsorship Summary About Sentinals of Freedom and the Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation: Over 2.3 million American military personnel have served in the war zones with over 50,000 injured, 5,000 severely wounded of which 1,600 are amputees and more than 233,000 have been diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The hospitals are still full and more and more Veterans are returning home without the support they need to make a successful transition. The transition for those who have sustained severe injuries is even more difficult as they learn to live with life altering injuries. The mission of Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation is to assist severely wounded, post- 9/11 Veterans in their efforts to become productive and self- sufficient members of their communities as they transition back into civilian life. Our goal is to raise awareness of the sacrifice that these Veterans have made, and to motivate local communities to rally behind these young heroes as they strive to reach their potential. A 2-4 year Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship serves to dramatically ease the return of these severely wounded Veterans by providing housing resources, educational support, and proactive mentoring and networking in order to attain social and financial independence, education completion, and successful career placement. 8 Veteran s Victory Velo and Hopfest Sponsorship Summary About DVSR Rotary and the DVSR Rotary Foundation: Dougherty Valley/San Ramon Rotary is a chapter of Rotary International, a worldwide service organization that brings together people from all walks of life who want to use their expertise for good and whose sense of responsibility inspires them to give back to their communities. Rotarians connect to do good and form lifelong friendships in the process. Together, they empower youth, improve health, promote peace, and advance their communities in all corners of the globe. With 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide, the global community s impact has never been greater and it continues to grow. The DVSR Rotary Club was formed and chartered in 2010, intentionally targeting a younger and more diverse membership with a lower dues structure, a sunset meeting time, and an emphasis on hands on community service. The club seeks to have an impact locally in the San Ramon Valley, regionally in the Greater Bay Area, as well as internationally. The DVSR Rotary Foundation was established in 2011 as the charitable arm of the DVSR Rotary Club. The Foundation has a separate board of directors, and its officers are elected from the membership of the DVSR Rotary Club, but separate from club s board of directors. The Foundation has tax- exempt status under IRS code 501(c)(3), Charitable Corporation to raise money and make charitable contributions in accordance with the following guidelines: Contributions to schools for educational scholarships Charitable contributions for youth activities and to youth organizations within, or substantially benefiting, the San Ramon area and/or California Charitable organizations within, or substantially benefiting, the San Ramon area and/or California Charitable organizations which help alleviate suffering in a time of crisis, wherever situated Charitable organizations approved by a majority of the members of the Foundation board. The Foundation held its inaugural Hopfest fundraising event in October The DVSR Rotary Club has also had an ongoing relationship with Sentinels of Freedom since the Club began. When presented with the opportunity to combine the Sentinels of Freedom s Veteran s Victory Velo ( V3 ) with the Hopfest, the Foundation acted quickly to make this V3 / Hopfest the club s signature event. Net proceeds from the event will be distributed to the Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation as well as DVSR Rotary Foundation Programs, which include the San Ramon Valley Youth to Youth Conference, 3rd Grade Dictionary Distribution, Venture School Interact Club, and PACE School for Girls in India.
