1 2007 ACCJF Cheerleading Competition Hosted by the Lakeland Jr. Chief's The Lakeland Jr. Chief's will host a Cheerleading competition on September,22nd 2007 At Lakeland High School Stadium Registration will begin at 9:00 am Competition will begin at 10:00 am. Rain Date September 29th

2 RULES 2007 The competition will consist of one dance chant routine and one Hello cheer. The entrance fee will be $4.00 per cheerleader. Lakeland will forward further details to you 1. All teams will compete according to the number drawn in the following order All "C" team cheer and dance All "B" team cheer and dance All "A" team cheer and dance There will be a lunch break for ½ hr. after all B squads perform. During lunch it is optional for I Teams to perform a dance routine of 1 minute or less. Each team shall pay $1.00 per cheerleader. (exhibition only). Awards Ceremony will immediately follow after the last A squad has performed. Hello Cheer: Building of mounts permitted. Team name must be included. Dance Routine: One and a half (1 ½) Minute minimum Two (2) minute Maximum (Hosting team shall appoint a person to time routines) Tapes and CD must be ready to play 1. Cheerleaders must remain in their uniforms. Pom poms and / or gloves may be used. Poster props no larger than 2 foot by 3 foot are permited. Dance routine, gymnastics, cartwheels, jumps, Basket toss, Mounts or builds are permitted. Key phrases during dance routine are permited. Chants are required during dance routine. 2. Cheerleaders must remain in position at the end of the cheer. The Judges will signal when to continue to the dance routine. 3. Please keep all the cheerleaders off the field until called to cheer. 4. Proof of age is required, refer to ACCJF By Laws Article VIII, Section H, 5. Mascots are not allowed to participate in competition. 6. Please notify us if you have a cheerleader with a disability. 7. Minimum of 4 judges are required 8. Whistles are not permitted. 2

3 9. All safety rules and guidelines are included. Any infractions of the safety rules will result in a 25 point deduction of that squad 10. A, 25 Point deduction shall occur off that category if anyone is coaching from the sidelines. 11.Coaches and Assistants will be allowed to position their cheerleaders on the side of the field and may tell cheerleaders where to stop on the field. When a squad is in position, all coaches, etc. must leave the field and move to the area designated for them to watch their squad perform. 12.The refreshment stand will be open for the duration of the competition. 13.Each cheerleader will receive an award purchased by the hosting team. The awards will consist of medals for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd & 4 th place and special awards will be medals. 14. Any extra medals will be purchased by the following years hosting team. 15. In the event of an injury if a child is unable to continue, with the discretion of the head coach, a team may choose to compete at the end of their competing level, for time to regroup. If they are the last squad they may have 15 minutes from the time the child is removed from the field. 16. Practice will be limited to 9:00 am to 10:00 am and lunch break. 17. Sportsmanship: All Cheerleaders agree to conduct themselves in a manner displaying good sportsmanship throughout the competition with positive presentation upon entry and exit from the performance area as well as throughout the routine. The coach / advisor of each team is responsible for seeing that team members, coaches parents and any other persons affiliated with the team conduct themselves accordingly. Severe cases of unsportsmanlike conduct are grounds for disqualification. 18. All Jewelry is prohibited during participation. 19. Supports, braces, etc., which are hard and unyielding or have rough edges or surfaces must be appropriately covered. A participant wearing a cast (excluding a properly covered air cast) shall not be involved in stunts, pyramids, tosses or tumbling. 3

4 Cheerleading Safety Guidelines 1. All pyramids and partner stunts are limited to two persons high. Two high is defined as the base (bottom person) having at least two feet on the ground. 2. The top person of a suspended split must be partially supported on her back thigh. There must be 4 bases making contact with the top person before landing in a split position and the top person must have hand contact with the bases spotter is required per mount for all stunts. Spotters are defined as safety and building spotters. 4. Safety Spotters: Spotters may be a Coach, Jr. Coach or advisor from that team. Spotters cannot touch Mount unless necessary to prevent a fall. All spotters must be clearly identified. Building Spotters: are spotters that are needed to help balance, lift or Hold a mount, etc. Building spotters must be a member of the competing squad and therefore can touch the mount. 5. Partner stunts and pyramids higher than a shoulder stand must have a continuous spotter for each person over shoulder stand level. Spotters are considered part of the squad with regard to the squad member limitations. 6. When one person is bracing another (including over lapping arms), one of the individuals must be at shoulder height or below (Exception: extensions may brace other extensions). 7. A Cheerleaders First Aid Kit must be available at practices and games for each team. 8. Team hosting competition must have qualified personnel or ambulance within 5 minutes of competition site. 9. Hanging pyramid is acceptable provided that a base (Having at least one foot on the ground) is supplied for the hanging stage. (See diagram # 1 of the attached Safety Guideline Diagrams (SGD). 10. Backward or forward suspended rolls are not permitted (SGD #15 & 16). 4

5 11.Pendulums and half pendulums are permitted. (SGD # 9 & # 14 respectively). 12. Basket tossed or any type of toss must be performed from the ground level and must be cradled by the original two basses, plus an additional spotter (third person scoop). (SGD #17, note modification). 13. Use of mini-tramps, springboards, or any height increasing apparatus is prohibited. 14. Knee and front drops are not permitted unless most of the weight is borne on the hands / feet to break the impact of the drop. 15. Helicopters are prohibited. 16. Single based split catches are prohibited (See SGD # 10A. Modified # 10 to include a second base and spotter). 17. Toe pitch flips are prohibited. (See SGD # 15). 18. Free falling flips or swan dived from any type of toss; partner stunt or pyramid is prohibited. (See SGD # 16). Glossary of terms: Base: A person who supports the majority of a top person's weight while the top person is off the ground. Top Person: A person who is held off the ground by another person or persons. Cradle: A dismount from a partner stunt, pyramid or toss in which top person is caught in a face-up, piked position before being placed on the performance area or remounting into another stunt, pyramid or loading position. Free Falling Flips: An unassisted aerial rotation where the person flipping is not in constant contact with the bases or spotters. Hands on Spotting: Procedure where the spotter maintains continuous contact with the person executing a tumbling move or partner stunts. Must be a member of competing squad. 5

6 Suspended Roll: rotation where the top person is continuously assisted by maintaining contact with base and / or spotter (s). Vault: A dismount with a three-quarter rotation where top person begins the stunt by having a firm hand contact with another person. All vaults must be lower than shoulder stand level and use a cradle dismount. Loading Position: A position in which a top person is off the ground in continuous movement that puts the bases and top in a position to end the movement in a stunt. Stunt: One or more bases supporting one or more top persons off the ground Basket toss: A stunt which a top person is tossed by bases who's hands are interlocked. Elevator toss: A stunt in which the top person loads into an elevator loading position and is then tossed into the air.
