2 Principal Article Advent will be starting this weekend. We will start our day on Monday with an Advent Wreath Blessing prayer service in the gym. We did this for the first time last year. It was a great way to gather as a school family to start our Advent Season. I invite any parent who would like to celebrate with us. We will start our prayer service at 8:15 Monday morning in the gym. During Advent, our morning prayer will be different. Instead of the reading of the day, I will do an advent reading. The readings will be an explanation of different names used for Jesus. We are at the end of our first trimester. It ended today. Report cards will be going home next Thursday. Watch for more information next week. A week of Out of Uniform for a homeroom was raffled off at the Holiday Social. Mrs. Carrie Ahler won. Both of her children s homerooms will have the week of December 5th-9th as Out of Uniform. These are Ms. Roth s third graders and Mrs. L Empereur s sixth graders. Congratulations! On behalf of the staff of St. Matthias Parish School, we hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday. Parking In Front Of School The City of Milwaukee has changed the parking signs in front of our school! They now read: 3 Hour Parking Monday-Friday from 7:00am-5:00pm. We do have four visitor spots on the east side of the Beloit Building as well as an abundance of parking in the church lot. Please remember when parking in the church lot to use the spots closest to the cemetery. Parking Lot Reminders Parents/Guardians, it is everyone s responsibility to ensure our parking lot is safe. Always park so you can pull forward to leave never back up your vehicle in the parking lot. Walk within the yellow pathway in the middle of the lot never drive through the middle of the lot. The lot can get backed up please be patient we have 260 students leaving at the same time. Watch your speed please drive cautiously there are small children everywhere. If you enter via Oklahoma Avenue you should exit via Oklahoma Avenue. If you enter via Euclid you should exit via Beloit Road. Drop off all children in the parking lot Beloit Road should not be used for drop off.

3 Winter Weather It may seem like a long way off, but we need to be aware of winter weather. Please double check for uniform sweatshirts and sweaters. The school can be drafty in areas and we want the students to be comfortable. If there is inclement weather, St. Matthias Parish School will close if Milwaukee Public Schools close. Please watch the news/radio stations for that information. Please do not call the school or teachers at home. Please be aware that the St. Matthias Parish may close outside of Milwaukee Public Schools. The parish has many parishioners who should not be out during inclement weather. They will close if they feel it best serves their clientele. Principal for the Day We had a raffle for Principal of the Day at our Holiday Social. Congratulations to Maddie Becker in our 3 rd grade who won. She will be Principal for the Day on Wednesday, November. 30 th. She has decided to give the students a No Homework Day, a Movie Day, and a Pajama Day. Be sure and say thank you to Ms. Becker and what she is giving the students that day. Important Art Class Information The Art Room is in need of newspaper donations if you are able to help, thank you! Ski Club St. Matthias School will once again have a Ski (and Snowboard) Club. There is a flyer attached in the mailer with all the information including dates, costs, and other details. The necessary paperwork is available from Mrs. Caporale. Please have your winter enthusiast stop up to room 204 to pick up paperwork so that it is completed before our first outing. Mr. Kilps and Mrs. Caporale will be the teacher advisors of the group this year. If you have any questions, please don t hesitate to Mrs. Caporale at jcaporale@stmatthias-milw.org St. Thomas More High School Poms All dancers age 5-13 who are interested in learning a Pom routine to be performed at a St. Thomas More High School Basketball game in January, please contact Nicole at or by at Nicole.wagner23@gmail.com

4 Communication Committee The Communications Committee is looking for working members. This is an active ministry that works with our web site, Facebook page and E-Newsletter. The committee meets in the parish office conference room the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm we are usually finished by 8:30pm. You don t have to be a techno wiz; if you love to write and report on parish activities we welcome you. We need you to help bring the story of St. Matthias Parish forward. If you are interested, please call the parish office at (414) or info@stmatthias-milw.org Family Athletic Pass The Family Athletic Pass will admit your immediate family (parents, grandparents, and siblings) to all home volleyball and basketball games. As well, home tournament games for the school year. The price of the pass is $ To purchase the pass: Go online via the St Matthias Parish School Athletic Page, Click "Register" this will take you the "Family Athletic Pass " Complete registration page and pay via credit card or electronic check. A list of the Athletic Family Pass holders will be kept at the admission table. To use your Family Pass, simply give your name at the table when entering the gym. It s that easy!! Forensics Team Start-Up Meeting It s time to start our Forensics season again! St. Matthias has a highly successful team that brought home many awards and trophies last year. If you are interested in competing by performing a piece of poetry, fiction, speech, drama, or other category, please join us. All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are eligible. The cost is very low (less than sports) thanks to support from the Home & School Association. The practice schedule is currently being determined. We attend meets in February and March at local middle schools. Tuesday, November 29: Parent/student meeting at 6:30 in Steiger Hall. At least one parent and the student should attend. Pick up a packet of information, find out what the team is about, meet other team members, and decide if this is right for you. This is optional for returning students. We will explain the process and requirements, and answer all of your questions, including: How do we juggle Forensics and basketball? How much practice is needed? What s the time commitment? What can we expect? Questions? Contact Anne Brown at or annekbrown@sbcglobal.net If you cannot attend, please get in touch and I will share information with you.

We would like to put some dates in front of you, so that they can make it to your calendars before the busyness of the new year is upon us. It s difficult to believe that the holidays are almost upon us. Seeing the green grass and warm temperatures fooled us into believing that summer was going to stay. But yesterday changed that thinking!!
