Principal s Report Dear Parents and Community Our book parade today was fantastic! We had a sea of superheroes, Dr Seuss characters, wizards, ice-princesses and many, many other favourite famous (and infamous) characters including a real Umpah Lumpah from willy Wonka s Chocolate Factory! The costumes were very creative and colourful! (Well done parents and kids!!) The Junior School Council also did a tremendous job of hosting the parade all as part of the celebration of Book Week at Drouin South PS. Uniform Survey I thank all parents who have taken the time to complete the recent uniform surveys. Unfortunately the photos did not fully show the colour of the shirt which is navy with sky blue trim. The results show that almost 80% of parents who responded were in favour of the new shirt and around 66% would be happy to see a hoodie top introduced. About half of the responses felt that a year would provide a good phase in time. The results of the survey will go to school council with a formal decision on the uniform expected to be made as soon as possible. Parent Teacher Discussions Thank you to all parents who have managed to navigate Sentral or who have contacted the office to make a time for next week s parent teacher discussions. If you have not made an appointment yet, there is still time. You may do so by logging on to Sentral as per the instructions in the letter that was sent home last week (it will remain open until midnight tonight), or by contacting the office on Disco Thank you to Adelle Phillips and our Junior School Council for the fantastic school disco last Friday night. Ashley Scott did a marvellous job as the house DJ and the kids had a terrific time. I learned quite a few new moves on the night from some of the very talented dancers that we have here at Drouin South PS. Breakfast Club Our Breakfast Club commenced this week. Unfortunately I was unable to be there as I had a meeting to attend. I have been told the morning went really well. I look forward to next Wednesday s Breakfast Club from 8.30am to 8.50am in the spare room next to the library. All students are welcome to drop in for brekky and we are happy to welcome parent helpers too!! Michael Smith Principal 2

Dear students & parents/guardians, Thankyou so far to all who have made the effort to register on the website for Jump Rope For Heart! We still need lots more to register; please take the time to do so. Here is the web address again: Sponsorship is easy simply go online to or go directly to the school s fundraising page to register: group=drouin-south-primary-school-drouin-south-vic UPDATE: We have raised just over $1824!! (online) and even more students have informed me of funds collected offline too! This is fantastic; keep it going!! Well done again to Bradley who is still our highest online fundraiser! If you need more fundraising forms, there are spares available in the school office. Also, please see the flyer on the back page for the competition regarding the Melbourne City Football (Soccer) Club! Many thanks, Lawrence Phillips. P.E Coordinator This Thursday at OSHC was the very anticipated Polymer Clay Beading Class. Children had a choice of 24 colours to make into beautiful and very unique beads. We saw love heart beads, spirals, marbled, spotty, tubes, squares and spheres. Due to the mass amount of participation, beads will need to be collected Monday from Casey at either BSC, snack or lunchtime. Children will have the choice of turning them into a necklace or bag charm. 3

Term 3 in 3/4B has been an extremely busy time. After studying 'Gold' in the first few weeks of term 3, at the start of August the grade 4 students went to the Sovereign Hill Government Camp at Ballarat. Once that was over we focused on the 2016 Rio Olympics. With the school's participation in e-smart and Cyber Bullying we used the Computer program - Budd:e, video 'The Young Devices', App, 'Sonic Pics' and the Cyber focused song, 'Who to share your details with' to create a cross - curricular experience. The class theme we are studying, is the Social Justice topic, "In Their Shoes". Some of the activities we have discussed and tried to put ourselves "In Their Shoes" for, have included: Mouth Painting, the sensation of being Blindfolded, as well as auditing the school for wheel chair access. More is to come as we look more closely at the access the World's population has to food. A highlight to finish the term, also linked to our theme, will be our joint fundraising venture with 3/4A, for the RSPCA, as we make Cup Cakes to sell to the school community. There will be much cooking and decorating to fill the orders! 5

On Friday the 11 th of August House Football commenced for students in years 5 and 6. Pristine conditions were on hand for the season opener which saw Red House (7.2.44) defeat Gold House (1.1.7). In the other match played in Round 1, Blue House (4.1.25) defeated Green House (1.1.7). Round 2 was played on Monday the 14th of August. Gold House (5.3.33) defeated Green House (1.0.6). In the other match for the round Red (6.4.40) defeated Blue (2.2.14) Round 3 was played on Monday the 21 st of August. Blue House ( ) defeated Gold House (4.2.26). In the other match for this round Red House (5.6.36) defeated Green House (1.1.7). Semi Finals were played on Monday the 29 th of August. In the first semi-final Red House (6.3.39) defeated Green House (1.1.7). In the other final played in glorious Drouin South sunshine Blue House (4.2.26) defeated Gold House (2.3.15). The Grand Final will be played on Monday the 5 th of September (back up day Friday 9 th of September) The match will be begin at 1:45pm and conclude around 2:10pm. Good luck to both teams and thankyou to all four House teams that have competed in House Football for A huge thanks to Mr. Lawrence Phillips for assisting with the running of the season. Mr. Denby Moore. Breakfast Club Breakfast club has started this week and was a very happy morning with students enjoying the Breakfast on offer. A reminder that all students are welcome to join us on Wednesday Mornings at 8.30am. 6

Today was the Book Week Parade. We were very excited to have a Parade this morning to show off all the amazing costumes that Students were wearing. We loved having special visitors with us to join us for the fun Parade. We especially loved the visit we got from a very special Pirate Captain, Captain Smithy!! 7

This term the End of Term Sausage Sizzle will be held on Thursday 15th of September in conjunction with the Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off.
