What teams are offered? Club V Season At Club V, we offer several types of teams to accommodate the development of each player. Each player has different needs and our focus is to help them grow from where they are to where they want to be. We have several different levels of competition, each with a different focus. At all levels, the goal is to help each athlete progress by placing them where they can grow yet not feel overwhelmed. Everyone is at a different place in their development, however, we have the structure, training, and opportunities for athletes to grow as much as they want during a season. Club V Structure College Bound Athletes HS Varsity & College Driven Athletes Jr & High School Driven Athletes Newer Athletes Beginners Tiny Beginners
Club V Training We are all about growth. Personal, team, coaches, parents, admin, you name it we want to be better than when we started. Fun for us is getting better setting a goal, working hard, and having a healthy pursuit to achieve it. Some have high lofty goals which require more time; others have goals that require less time. Whether you are committed to play for a top 10 college team or looking to make a Jr High School team your time and effort is up to you. However, our methods and training has produced over 300 Utah High School All State Players, over 20 All Americans, & over 200 that have or are playing in college. In 2017, every single 6A 1 st Team All State Player came from Club V. Why waste your time and money with anything but training that has a proven track record? This is what we do. We are eternal coaches, teachers, and mentors. A man was walking by 3 brick layers and asked each of them what they were doing. The first man replied, I am laying bricks. The second man replied, I am building a church. The third man replied, I am building a Church of God. We are not just teaching volleyball. We are not just building athletes. We are creating dynamic young men and women who will learn to work hard, accomplish goals, build confidence, be great teammates, learn discipline, and learn to be the best versions of themselves through the sport of volleyball. Athletes will learn to take ownership of their growth in all aspects of their lives. We exist to help athletes achieve. Developmental Training Sessions (DTS) New this year, we provide what is called our Developmental Training System (DTS). These are highly technical, high reps, high feedback training sessions that take place Monday Thursday, 3 Sessions a day with our very experienced, best coaches in the club. Training times are from 4-5:30, 6-7:30, 8-9:30. Each coach and court will have a different focus and athletes are able to choose what they would like to work on. For example, we would have a setting court where all of our setters would gets hundreds of reps setting the ball, focusing on specific techniques for that session. DTS sessions are designed to help athletes train in deliberate practice. We focus on player development at all levels using character based training to develop kids into better people, athletes, students, and players. As of August 31 st, 2018 we have sent over 200 girls and counting to play in college. These athletes come from all our 1 s, 2 s, 3 s, and 4 s teams. Why? College coaches need good people, athletes, students, and players and they look to the place where the athletes get that sort of attention and development. They need them to handle the intense rigor of being a collegiate student athlete. The Technical, Tactical, Physical, Mental, Character (TTPMC) Model We focus on the whole athlete. The game of volleyball and life requires a balanced approach to growth. If you only focus on technical training, you may not learn how to compete under pressure or deal with setbacks. If you only focus on tactical training (decision making), you won t be able to perform tactically what you can t do technically. We focus on developing players in each of the following ways: TECHNICAL TACTICAL CHARACTER PHYSICAL MENTAL 1.) Technical Training We work with college & Olympic coaches to teach the most current, correct technique. Our DTS training will be run by our top coaches to make sure players are getting cutting edge instruction. This will help athletes improve faster and more efficiently.
2.) Tactical Training Team practices will focus on tactical decision making and competition. Where to serve, who to set, where to hit, where to play defense. As players get better technically, they will learn how to make better tactical decisions. 3.) Physical Development We provide and hold the players accountable to eating healthy and doing the right workouts to help them increase their athleticism. We have workouts, Monday-Thursday, from 5:30-6pm and 7:30-8pm. Athletes are required to do the workouts! Volleyball is one of the most athletic sports and requires a great deal of athletic movement. Working out is imperative to becoming a great volleyball player (hence why every single college program works out) and why we have opportunities for athletes to workout each day if they want to. 4.) Mental Development We help athletes learn to focus & execute under pressure as well as teach them sports psychology principles that allows players to develop and progress faster. These will take place during our DTS sessions and workouts. 5.) Character Development At the core of all the training is an athlete s character. A character athlete is one whose behavior remains the same no matter the circumstance (ie. They do their best even when they are losing, they are supportive of their teammates when they are not playing, they work hard, are disciplined, etc ). We provide lessons and homework for the athletes to learn these life skills. Tryouts are always in the summer end of July, beginning of August. 4. When would we practice? Team practices for ALL MP teams will be on Monday & Wednesday. They can attend any DTS sessions they want throughout the week or attend any times. 5. What does Nationally Ranked teams mean? Club rankings are found by two main sources PrepVolleyball US Rankings. These teams are regionally competitive and operate according to the rules of performance-based playing time. The Performance-Based coaching guideline requires that players be fully committed to attending all practices and tournaments while adhering to all team and club rules. The athlete's performance and attitude on and off the court will determine their play time in tournaments. The evaluation of player performance for the determination of playing time, as well as team strategy decisions, is entirely up to the discretion of the coaching staff. These guidelines are used to keep teams regionally competitive and to achieve team goals. Coaches will provide a fair and impartial environment for each player to earn playing time. Coaches will not discuss playing time as it relates to other players, and will not discuss strategy and techniques with any parent or player. Players must be committed to attending ALL practices, ALL local tournaments, and ALL out of state tournaments. National Tournaments Select Teams are required to attend 2 national tournaments. Teams may decide to travel to more than they re required, however, it must be decided at the beginning of the year and done by a unanimous vote. Select Teams will be attending 2 of the following tournaments: Colorado Crossroads (Denver, CO) - Stay and Play Las Vegas Classic (Las Vegas, NV) Stay and Play Southern California Qualifier (Las Vegas, NV) Stay and Play Far Westerns National Qualifier (Reno, NV) Tryout Format Teams will be finalized for the Select Teams right after the tryout. Players trying out for Select Teams who do not make an Select Team can be placed on an Elite Team or lower. Official practices will start on November 26 th. 1. What if I don t make a Select Team? You will be placed on either an Elite, Comp or Club Team. 2. I am not sure if I should try out for the Select Program because I don t know where I compare competitively. Try out anyway! There is no harm in trying out and trying to make the most competitive team possible. Athletes that make Select Teams have a solid skill base and high athletic abilities. 3. I can t commit to 3 x week practice but I want to play for a SELECT team. Your growth is dependent on you. You can come to all 3 practices a week, Friday training, additional DTS training. Those that put in the work will always be ahead. 4. When would we practice? Your Competition practices and DTS sessions are assigned with your team. However, if you are unable to make a certain DTS session, you are more than welcome to join another session on a different day or time.
The ELITE Program (ages: U14 U18) Teams: 1-3 Elite teams in each age group (depending on athletes skill level & athleticism within the age group) Players per team: 9-11 players on each team (goal is 10 to make practices competitive yet not too many to limit playtime) Practices: 1 Competition Practice per week & 1 DTS Session per week + FREE summer training Base Cost: $2,050 U15-U17 & $1,750 U14 for the season (November 26 th April 2017) Tournaments: 5 AAU Tournaments + 1 Junior National Qualifier (JNQ) Uniforms: 2 Jerseys, 1 Spandex, warm up bottom, L/S tshirt, bag, 2 practice t s Travel Cost: $325 per JNQ Team Names: Colossus, Rogue, Mystique *Recommended for players who want to make their Junior High or High School Teams* Elite teams are locally competitive and are created to prepare players to contribute on their school teams. They are designed to help players improve while having a fantastically fun time doing it. Players will learn how to practice to get better and then learn how to compete to win against other teams. These teams are regionally competitive and operate according to the rules of Competition-based playing time. The Competition-Based coaching guideline requires that players be fully committed to attending all practices and tournaments while adhering to all team and club rules. Athletes will be given equal opportunities to play in each match but all playtime may not be equal. The evaluation of player performance for the determination of playing time, as well as team strategy decisions, is entirely up to the discretion of the coaching staff. These guidelines are used to keep teams locally competitive and to achieve team goals. Coaches will provide a fair and impartial environment for each player to earn playing time. Coaches will not discuss playing time as it relates to other players, and will not discuss strategy and techniques with any parent or player. National Tournaments Each elite team will be required to travel to at least one National Tournament/Qualifier. Teams may decide to travel to more than they re required, however, it must be decided at the beginning of the year and done by a unanimous vote. Elite Teams will be attending 1 of the following tournaments: Colorado Crossroads (Denver, CO) - Stay and Play Las Vegas Classic (Las Vegas, NV) Stay and Play Southern California Qualifier (Las Vegas, NV) Stay and Play Far Westerns National Qualifier (Reno, NV) Tryouts Teams will be finalized for the Elite Teams right after the tryout. Players trying out for Elite Teams who do not make an Elite Team can be placed on a Club Team. Team practices will begin on November 26 th. 1. What if I don t make an Elite Team? You will be placed on a Club team, depending on skill, athleticism, and commitment. 2. I am not sure if I should try out for the Elite Program because I don t know where I compare competitively. Try out anyway! There is no harm in trying out and trying to make the most competitive team possible. 3. I want to play on an Elite Team but I don t want to travel. Unfortunately, ELITE TEAMS are required to travel to at least one out of state tournament. Thus, you will be placed on a club team to accommodate your needs. 4. Why do we have to travel? By competing against different clubs from different states, it exposes athletes to an entirely new level of volleyball which helps them to develop faster and compete at higher, more competitive levels. 5. When would we practice? Either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. You can always attend your DTS session any day of the week. However, we recommend you attend with your team.
The CLUB Program (ages: U8 U14) Teams: 1-3 Comp teams in each age group (depending on athletes skill level & athleticism within the age group) Players per team: 8-10 players on each team (goal is 10 to make practices competitive yet not too many to limit playtime) Practices: 1 Competition Practice per week & 1 DTS Session per week Base Cost: $1,050 U13-U14. $750 U12 & Younger for the season (November 26 th April 2017) Tournaments: 4 1 Day AAU Tournaments Uniforms: 2 Jerseys, 1 Spandex, bag, 1 practice t s Team Names: Relentless, Fierce, Savage *Recommended for players who are new to competitive team volleyball* Club teams emphasize learning before winning. Teams are designed to introduce an athlete to competitive team volleyball and learn all the tactics (rotations, positions, etc ) that come with team play. Playing time and position are balanced between each player s need to learn a skill or position and that player s growth. This allows for every player to play part of every match, with play time close to being equally distributed. Competition provides the context for players to learn and develop. Club teams will lose more matches than other teams primarily because they are designed to emphasize development of players rather than emphasizing only winning. However, coaches will balance player s strengths and weaknesses for the team to have a stable level of performance. Thus, playing time and positions may not be perfectly distributed. The club development coaching strategy enables us to give play time to players who, if managed under the performance-based guidelines used by MP & Select, would not play in many matches. Club teams play a less demanding schedule to allow players to participate in school activities. Players who show a poor attendance record to practices should only expect to play in positions with an amount of playing time that benefits the team, not the individual. Tryouts Teams will be finalized for Club Teams right after the tryout. Players trying out for Club Teams who do not make a Club Team can be placed in the Academy. Team practices will begin on November 26 th. 1. What if I don t make a Club Team? You will be placed in the Academy. 2. I am not sure if I should try out for the Club Program because I don t know where I compare competitively. Try out anyway! There is no harm in trying out and trying to make the most competitive team possible. 3. What are some of the qualifications to making an Elite Team compared to a Club Team? At all levels, we always focus on skill development. However, Elite Teams require that certain skills be mastered in order to make teams competitive against other clubs. An athlete s ability to make an Elite Team is dependent on their ability to execute those skills in a competitive setting. 4. When would we practice? Either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. You can always attend your DTS session any day of the week. However, we recommend you attend with your team.
