Due to our schedule, this may be the only weekend the varsity can take off all season, so this would be a great time for college visits or other travel/ family events. 4 Tryout Details Teams CVU fields up to three boys soccer teams: Varsity will be made up of players from any grade JV will be made up of up to 22 players from the 9th and 10th grade JVB may be made up of up to 22 players from the 9th and 10th grade Eligibility The varsity tryouts beginning on August 16th will be open to incoming all interested CVU Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. All Juniors and Seniors who intend to play soccer must attend varsity tryouts, as upperclassmen cannot play on the JV teams. Sophomores may decide whether to come to varsity tryouts or wait until JV tryouts on the 21st. All freshmen must attend JV tryouts beginning on August 20th. Freshman will be considered for varsity depending on their performance at JV tryouts. Registration + Forms In order to participate in athletics at CVU each athlete must meet the following requirements: 1. Each student must present a completed physical form, OR have a current physical on file at the school. A physical is considered current if has been within the last two years. 2. Each student must complete online registration. 3. Each student must be enrolled in a minimum of five courses or their equivalent each quarter. 4. Each student must maintain a minimum grade of C- range cumulative average, each quarter. All required paperwork (except for the sports physical) will be completed on-line via a platform called Form ReLeaf. This will allow parents to complete forms ONCE and then the information will be prepopulated if you have more than one child or your child plays more than one sport. Medical forms still need be to be handed in because of the requirement for the Doctor s signature. However, once turned it, it will be uploaded to Form ReLeaf and thus will not get lost or misplaced. Parents will access the site from the CVU website. Links will be made available here and ed to the team list later in the summer once they are posted on the site. NOTE: It is very important that you and your child(ren) read and are familiar with the policies and procedures and fill out all required paperwork. CVU Handbook The CVU co-curricular policies and procedures handbook can be found at Varsity Fitness Testing A series of fitness tests will be administered early on during varsity tryouts. The tests will include some combination of endurance and strength tests, performed over the course of several days. This is an example of how testing may be conducted: Day 1: 1 mile 6 minutes Push-Ups & Sit-Ups Deck of Cards 6 x 300m 55 secs each Day 2: Yo-Yo Intermittent Test Timed Front Plank To Failure Day 3: 2 miles 12 minutes 10 x 100m 14 secs each Varsity Technical Testing The vast majority of technical evaluation will be done by observing the boys play. There is one technical test that we will do: the 10 Minute Juggle test. In the 10 Minute Juggle, each player juggles a single ball with any playable surface of their body for 10 minutes straight, counting their total number of juggles they accumulate over the 10 minute period. If the player drops their ball, they do not start their count over. Instead, they pick up from where they left off. Non-goalies intending to play for the varsity should score over 800 juggles. Top players should score over 1,000. Equipment The following equipment should be brought to all training sessions throughout the season: Firm Ground Cleats 5

We understand that our equipment does not belong to us, and is provided by the towns that we represent. We will treat it with the respect that it deserves. Schedule Conflicts Nothing in life is mandatory, even soccer practice, and some conflicts are unavoidable. Attendance will have a significant impact on whether you are selected to play for this program, what team you are selected for, and on all decisions concerning playing time. Please let Rob know ASAP if you have any conflicts with the posted schedule. Do not miss a team event without giving proper notice. Guidelines for Parents/Spectators 1. Do not communicate with referees or other officials in any way during the game. Please do not squander years of attempted restraint on the part of the players and coaching staff by making CVU a hostile place to referee. 2. Do not coach our players. Please let us coach the players, and please be as positive, loud, and encouraging from the sidelines as you can find it within yourself to be. 6

7 3. I am happy to meet with parents/guardians to discuss areas of concern or interest. Send me an and we will find a convenient time to meet, probably after a practice. Impromptu meetings are less productive than planned ones. Your son must attend the meeting. Summer Opportunities Team Training All players grades 9-12 are strongly encouraged to attend training sessions led by the coaching staff or senior players. Sessions will be every Sunday and Tuesday from 6PM to 8PM on C or D field, beginning Tuesday July 10th and ending on August 5th. The full list of dates are shown below and also included in the detailed schedule. Tuesday July 10th Sunday July 15th Tuesday July 17th Sunday July 22nd Tuesday July 24th Sunday July 29th Tuesday July 31st Sunday August 5th College ID Vermont Football Academy High School Preseason Camp (Run by UVM Men s Soccer staff) The VFA camps are high quality camps produced by the UVM Varsity Men s coaching staff geared towards player development and recruitment. If you have any questions about the camp please mens.soccer@uvm.edu. The VFA High School Preseason camp is especially valuable because it is relatively low cost, it takes place the week before our preseason, and they will place all CVU players together so that we train as a group and compete against other high schools. It also gives players the opportunity to interact with the UVM staff, which are good connections to develop if you have an interest in playing in college at any divisional level. I would like to see as many of our players as possible attend this camp. Ages: Grades

8 Dates: August 6-10th Times: 6:00-8:00 PM Location: University of Vermont Cost: $135 Register: Vermont Football Academy ID Camp (Run by UVM Men s Soccer staff) This camp is a larger commitment than the High School Preseason camp, both financially and in terms of time. It gives players a good sense for what it will be like to play in college. Ages: Grades 9-12 Dates: July 20-22nd Times: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Location: University of Vermont Cost: $350 Resident; $215 Commuter Register: Elite Soccer Academy of New England (Run by Dartmouth College Men s Soccer Staff) Top level camp run by the staff at Dartmouth College. Ages: Grades 7-12 Dates: July 15-18th Location: Dartmouth College Cost: $699 Register: Ray Reid Soccer School ID Camp (Run by UCONN Men s Soccer Staff) Another elite college recruiting camp on the east coast. Ages: Grades 9-12 Dates: June 28th - July 1st Location: University of Connecticut Cost: $715 Register: 8

9 Club Camps Many local youth soccer clubs offer preseason camps in late July and early August to both club and non-club players looking to get in top shape and playing form as they head into their fall seasons. Ask your club coach or contact Rob for suggestions. Mexicali 6v6 Soccer League The Mexicali 6v6 Soccer League is a coed league organized by Briant Hamrell.
