1 BALLET AUDITION NOW
2 In more than fifty years of existence, the Joffrey Ballet School has remained on the forefront of American dance education. Students learn from established master teachers as well as artists and choreographers at the cutting edge of today s dance profession. Graduates of the School have gone on to dance for major classical ballet companies, as well as for numerous modern and contemporary companies, both in the United States and abroad. The Joffrey Ballet School is the only ballet school that offers a well-rounded dance curriculum that includes serious training in both classical and contemporary ballet, as well as modern, character, improvisation, choreography, dance history, anatomy, nutrition, music, Pilates and yoga. James Culp... a photographer in NYC Auditions and Registration Acceptance to all of our summer programs is by audition only at one of our audition locations or by our Digital Video Submission. Audition locations and instructions can be found on the page six of this brochure. After your audition you will receive your invitation by and mail along with registration instructions. Conditioning classes such as Pilates and yoga for dancers are also offered. In New York students will be exposed to its unparalleled dance community, with opportunities to see performances by major ballet companies, such as American Ballet Theater and New York City Ballet, as well as other exciting modern and contemporary dance companies. Young Dancer Ballet Intensives New York City (Ages 10 15) June 9 to August 3, 2013 (2 week sessions) The Young Dancer Intensives focus on classical ballet technique and pointe, in the morning, with an array of afternoon classes including Horton, Modern and Hip Hop classes, Ballet Character, Body Conditioning and Improvisation. Several sessions are offered, varying in length from one to two weeks. These intensives are designed to prepare the student for the level of technique and artistry required for the pre-professional level Summer Intensives. NYC Pre-Professional Ballet Intensive New York City (Ages 14 25) August 18 to August 31, 2013 (2 week sessions) The Professional/Pre-professional program is an advanced ballet boot camp offered by the Joffrey Ballet School. Geared for the most advanced students as well as professionals, the days will consist of an advanced ballet technique class, a pointe or partnering class, and a variations or contemporary class. The program faculty will include established choreographers and repetiteurs to work with the dancers on choreography and repertory during the afternoon class. The dancers will receive personalized coaching in these classes Housing and Meals All of our programs offer housing in modern dormitories in safe neighborhoods or university campuses. Our staff supervises the students in the facilities. Optional meal plans are offered at all locations. Students may apply to be exempt from our housing facilities and commute if they prefer.
4 Joffrey South - Georgia Georgia offers a safe suburban university campus environment alternative to New York City with the same quality of training. Trainee - Advanced Workshop Georgia College, Milledgeville (Ages 15 to 21) June 9 to June 29, 2013 (1-3 week sessions) This Joffrey South Workshop offers advanced students ages a three-week, in-depth ballet experience. Daily technique will be offered in ballet, pointe, variations, pas der deux, broadway, jazz and new choreography. On the final day of the program students will perform in a demonstration on the stage at Russell Auditorium. Students attending this Joffrey South Workshop will be considered for enrollment in the Joffrey Ballet School s year-long program in New York City. Emphasis will also be placed upon body conditioning. The goal is to train young dancers in the classical ballet technique, artistry and versatility required for an active career in a professional company. Further, the Trainee Program frequently provides disciplined dancers with the opportunity to perform in professional arenas while continuing their training. The Trainee Program demands a deep commitment on the part of the students. Junior Trainee - Intermediate Workshop Georgia College, Milledgeville (Ages 11 to 16) June 9 to June 29, 2013 (1-3 week sessions) The Joffrey South Workshop offers intermediate students ages a one-to-three-week, in-depth ballet experience. Daily technique will be offered in ballet, pointe, variations, and new choreography. This workshop will culminate in a student demonstration on the final day of the third week. This is a wonderful introduction to summer dance away from the familiarity of the student s home studio. Students participate in six, twelve or eighteen days of ballet, pointe, and variations, augmented with a foot care seminar, history of ballet, and other dance related classes. Emphasis will also be placed upon body conditioning. Young Dancer Program Georgia College, Milledgeville (Ages 9 to 13) June 9 to June 13, 2013 (1-2 week sessions) The Joffrey Ballet School s Young Dancer ballet intensive in Georgia is designed for young students with a love for dance and that want to immerse themselves in the art of ballet. This program gives youngest beginning dance students a taste of the intensive routine, while only spending two weeks away from home. This intensive is designed to prepare the student for the level of technique and artistry required for the Junior Trainee Summer Intensive. Students are systematically taught ballet exercises at the barre and center floor, progressing towards more complex combinations. Each two week session program sets similar goals as its New York counterpart, educating the young dancer in vital principles of ballet and fostering an age-appropriate environment that will excite students about a future in dance. Classes will continue as recreational/enrichment dance classes. Students enrolling in the Junior Trainee Summer intensive must audition to be placed in an appropriate level
