1 06/10/17 Football at Marden: Well done to our footballers from Lowry and Picasso classes who were runners up in the Year 5/6 football tournament in Marden this week. Aaron, Ben P, Ben R, Ethan, Fred, Harry, Ioan, Jack, Oliver S and Oliver W all played brilliantly. The children organised their positions in the different matches and were super advocates for the school. The team spirit was great and second out of eight schools was a fantastic achievement. 17/11/17 Athlete Visit: Monet Class were visited by Commonwealth medallist for weight lifting, Anthony Ramsbottom, this week. He taught the children how important it is never to give up! Thank you Anthony. 24/11/17 School Sports Crew On Thursday, Miss Foord took ten children from Picasso and Lowry classes to train to be a member of a School Sports Crew at The Angel Centre in Tonbridge. The children learnt about what qualities a member should have and got to make up and deliver their own playground

2 game to another school. Carys said It was quite fun! Our school values make you a good leader. The children were great school ambassadors and are excited to put their training into practise, forming their own School Sports Crew in school. 06/12/17 Basketball Tournament On the 6th December we entered a basketball tournament. Our team was William B, Katie W, Dougie, Lucie F, Ethan, Heidi, Alfie, Ben R and Ioan. We played 3 matches and we won all 3 by quite a margin so we got to the quarter finals. It was a tough game but we mad a comeback, winning Yippee!! The finals were really hard, unfortunately we lost It was a very enjoyable tournament and because there was a scout there for Sevenoaks Suns I may join a basketball club. 3 15/12/17 Handball Tournament - Last week 6 children from Monet, Picasso and Lowry classes took part in a Handball tournament at the High Weald Academy. They won the first match 6-0, the second 5-0 and the third match 6-1, going on to win the trophy! Well done to Max R, Jim, Alfred, Albert, Ben P and Bradley and thank you to all our drivers and supporters. 11/12/17 Maths/PE Competition On 11th December two teams of Mathematicians from Year 3 Warhol and Year 4 Monet went to Bennett Memorial school for a Maths and PE Competition. Well the results are in and we came 5th, just one point behind the prize winners. Well done to our children who took part and represented the school! 12/01/18 Charlton Athletic Programme Ferrero is partnering with the Football League Trust to launch the + Sport Move and Learn Project, a national schools initiative to get children active and promote healthy lifestyles, as part of the global Kinder + Sport programme. The sole aim of the +Sport Move and Learn Project is to increase the levels of physical activity, promote nutritional education and build awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and active lifestyle amongst children. The programme content has been developed by experts and its learning outcomes are in line with the National Curriculum for PSHE and Science. Over the course of six weeks, children from Monet and Picasso classes will spend nine hours learning about the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Each week the children will take part in a 90 minute session that involves: 45 minutes in the

4 classroom covering six different topics related to the body, nutrition, the importance of exercise and information about food groups, in line with the recommendations in the Government s eat well plate 45 minutes taking part in a practical session made up of football, handball and dodgeball (2 weeks per sport). The programme started this week, led by Mike from Charlton Athletic. The children enjoyed finding out about health, nutrition and exercise and learning football skills 19/01/18 Infant Agility Daniel, Amelia R, Barnaby, Lucie-Lou and Bea from Van Gogh Class and Dennis, Sophie, Erin, Max L, Leo and Austin from Kandinsky Class took part in Infant Agility this week. Barnaby and Dennis demonstrated their javelin skills, both throwing outside the measured area! One of the organisers commented to Mrs Sharp that our children were sitting so beautifully and so well behaved. Well done children, we are very proud of you all!

5 26/01/18 Mr Potato PE The children in Matisse class are very lucky to have Pavan Patel from Progressive Sports working with them in their PE sessions. The children have had lots of fun learning different sports skills and have also tried out some archery and are learning different dances.

6 09/02/18 Basketball Match Report Jim, Carrie-Ann, Heidi, Bradley and Ben went to the Weald in Cranbrook to play a basketball tournament. In the first match, the other team scored first. Then our talented Heidi scored an amazing goal. Sadly, they scored again but last minute drama Bradley picked up the ball and scored! We all went crazy! In the second match, at the beginning Ben scored a brilliant goal by skilling all of the other team, Brenchley and Matfield. We won 2-1. Then we played one more match against Frittenden School. We really lost that match by 4-1, with Bradley scoring one at the end to cheer about. We came second in the tournament, a fantastic achievement. Thanks to our drivers and supporters. Written mainly by Ben and Bradley, Lowry Class New Age Kurling Well done to Florence, Primrose, Samuel and Theo from Warhol Class (Year 3). They represented the school at this week s Kurling competition. I hear that they did brilliantly and were a credit to the school! 23/02/18 Sports for Champions We were joined by long jump athlete Ezekiel Ewulo on Tuesday. He worked on fitness with all the children in the school before delivering an inspirational assembly. We raised

7 471, some of which supports up-and coming athletes and some goes into school funds. Thank you to everyone who raised sponsorship money. 09/02/18 Hockey Tournament A team of boys and girls from Year 3 to Year 6 went to Tonbridge School for a Quicksticks tournament on Wednesday. Miss Dunn said they all played brilliantly and showed such great attitudes. The more experienced players all coached the younger ones and both William H' s (Yr 3 and 4) were playing in the upper junior tournament! Some of the children they were against were twice their size! We came 7th out of 14 overall. Well done children! Netball Match report On Tuesday 6th March our netball team played Paddock Wood at home, on our wonderful multiuse games area. We played three games and we won all three! It was very close on the first game, we only won by one point with a score of 2-3. At the end of all the matches we celebrated with a glass of water, oranges and cake. There was a bit of trouble with cheerleading at the same time as the match but that didn t stop us from playing and winning. So we say thank you to Paddock Wood for making the effort to come! Thanks you to Mrs Hart Dyke for organising it and a

8 massive thank you to our netball coaches for teaching us how to play this wonderful sport. By Isla Belle, Monet Class (Year 4) Bikeability This week Lowry Class have been learning how to ride their bikes safely on the roads. Despite last week's weather, all the children were really excited about their Bikeablity course and came ready and prepared to beat the elements! All the children tested their bikes for safety and then practised in the playground, followed by practising their skills on the road. All the children in Year 6 were amazing and were absolutely exhausted by their hard days cycling-well done! 14/03/18 Go Cheer Cheerleading Competition On Wednesday, the Horsmonden High Flyers went to Tonbridge School to compete against ten other school in a cheerleading competition. The girls were very excited and couldn t wait to perform their routine. They did amazingly well and represented the school to a very high standard. Miss Foord is yet to receive the scores, however they are winners in our eyes and are a credit to the school. Maddie said It was really amazing and fun and I really want to do it again. Well done girls!

9 23/03/18 Running at Claremont Representatives of our running club took part in cross country races at Claremont Primary School this week. Due to a last minute change of venue, we were the only school (other than Claremont) who turned up! All our runners did brilliantly, with unexpected performances by Max and Ben in Picasso Class and Daniel in Van Gogh Class (Year 2) who ran in the Year 3/4 race. Rose and Heidi were the only girls in their races! Alfred was a worthy winner of the Year 3/4 boys race, despite being really outnumbered by Claremont. Well done to all our runners and thanks to the parents who drove and supported.
