Well done! Lions 97.7% and Rhinos with 97.6%. Orchestra, pm Every Friday (Years 2-6) If you play an instrument why not join us in the School Orchestra. We will meet on Fridays after school until 4pm starting this Friday, 25 January 2019, for ten weeks to the Easter break. Dates are 25 January, 1, 8 & 15 February, 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 March, 5 April. Orchestra is open to all children in Years 2-6. Cost for the spring term is 25. Preferred method of payment is by secure online payment through SIMS Agora. Alternatively, you may pay by cash or cheque, payable to Springfield Primary School. Defibrillator We would like to purchase a defibrillator for use in an emergency in school for children or adults. Unfortunately, they are very expensive so we are looking to obtain sponsorship to help with the cost. If anyone could help with this we would very much appreciate it; you may work for a large company that would be interested in helping! Thank you. Squirrels Day EYFS Squirrel Day this week was a great success. The children enjoyed finding out more about squirrels. I know that squirrels eat acorns and nuts. Penelope Squirrels live inside the holes of trees. Eleanora They have sharp nails to help them climb trees. Harley Squirrels come in different colours, I've seen grey ones and we saw some photos of red ones. Lucas Penguins Day Y4 Penguins had a fabulous Penguin Day this week. The day started with Evelyn demonstrating her creative Origami skills and everyone got to make an Origami Penguin. This was followed by Penguin maths with the children trying to work out how many moves it would take a penguin to negotiate an ice flow before reaching the mainland. Jack and Florrie were the winners of our 'Penguin Discovery' quiz and earned themselves some team points into the bargain. Viking Day Year 5 had a visit from a Viking this week which they all enjoyed. The screaming swept up my inner emotion. The acting let me express myself. The weapons made me say Woah. She taught us how to shout like a Viking, march like a Viking, attack like a Viking. She let us hold weapons. She split us into groups of six and gave each group an artefact to look at and try and figure out what it is. It was awesome. Alex My favourite part of the very interesting Viking day was when we did a play and I was a tiny dwarf. Loki, who was played by someone else, turned into a little horsefly and stung me three times, once in the shoulder, once in the cheek, and once in the eyelid, and every time I had to shout ouch! 2 Y6 CGP Books - Order Deadline Now Passed If you submitted a Y6 CGP order form before Christmas, your child should now have received their Y6 CGP books. Some late orders are still being processed. No further orders can now be taken by the school office but you can still order books directly from the CGP website: PTA News Tuck Shop THIS FRIDAY - Our first tuck shop of the year is this Friday after school. As always we will be outside the main school reception. School Disco - Our first school discos for 2019 will be held on Thursday 14 February. All details are on the permission forms attached at the end of this newsletter. Please note the new collection points for the KS2 Disco detailed below and on the permission forms. Completed forms and correct money should be in an envelope marked PTA Disco and popped in the PTA postbox at reception. The deadline for permission forms is 1 February please. 4 PTA Disco - Thursday 14 February 2019 EYFS/KS1 (reception year 2) 3.15pm pm The PTA are pleased to announce that we will be holding a Disco on Thursday 14 th February after school. These are popular events and we hope the children will enjoy a party to get them ready for half term! The cost is 3.50 per child, which includes entrance, unlimited drinks and a packet of crisps on arrival. This event is run by PTA volunteers who cannot be responsible for allergies. Tickets will not be available to purchase on the night and must be bought in advance to ensure we have enough adults for the number of children. To book your child s place please complete a permission slip (below) for each child along with the correct money, in a sealed envelope, into the PTA Postbox. Slips and payments must be received no later than Friday 1 February. A list will then be handed to each class teacher confirming the names of the children who have booked their place. Tickets cannot be transferred between children. The children will be able to change in class and will then be brought into the hall by their class teachers. Children will return to their classrooms to collect their belongings and you can collect your child from their classroom at 4.30pm. We hope that these changes will make the entry into the disco quicker and easier as requested by parents. Many thanks for your ongoing support. 5 PTA Disco - Thursday 14 February 2019 KS2 (years 3-6) 4:45pm 6pm The PTA are pleased to announce that we will be holding a Disco on Thursday 14 th February after school. These are popular events and we hope the children will enjoy a party to get them ready the half term! The cost is 3.50 per child, which includes entrance, unlimited drinks and a packet of crisps on arrival. This event is run by PTA volunteers who cannot be responsible for allergies. NEW COLLECTION LOCATIONS - each year group will be dismissed via separate doors to help ensure their safety. We will be using the 3 classrooms as well as the main junior hall door. Mobile phones are not to be used during the disco any seen will be taken and looked after by the PTA until 6pm and then returned as the children leave. Many thanks for your ongoing support.
