What a great year for the VCMHC! Looking back at the 2014 club activities shows one really nice event after another with many club members taking part. In February the club hosted the national AMHA convention at the Renaissance at North Hills in Raleigh. Our own Dini Swanson was busy for months making sure every detail was just right. The open barn tour with stops at Cedarwood Farm and Flintlock Farm, both in the picturesque Chapel Hill/Durham area, as well as the morning with the Carolina trainers were entertaining and informative. Tara Farm also hosted lunch and many seminars and discussions. On Memorial Day weekend the Southern States Regional Morgan Horse Show was a rousing success thanks to our new show manager Liz Holmes and the hardworking show committee. In August Gail and Pete Jaeger hosted the summer meeting at Flintlock. In September there was a fun filled trail ride for Morgan enthusiasts and their friends. Just before the NC State Fair Horse Show the NC Horse Council sponsored a Year of the Horse Celebration and Parade of Breeds. The local Morgan enthusiasts made sure the Morgan was well represented. In November the annual meeting and Awards Banquet were held in Raleigh, again at the Renaissance at North Hills. Everyone had a good time and Elizabeth Abernathy had a great array of awards to accompany the many trophies. The year 2014 was a busy and memorable one but looking ahead we all need to focus on promoting the Morgan horse in every way possible. Now is the time to plan activities for 2015 and if you have ideas or want to volunteer, contact me at or rmeagle@bellsouth.net. Also, plan to sponsor classes at the many local horse shows so we can keep these shows. We should all try to bring in new members to the club both adult and youth. Happy New Year from Daughtry Stables! Mary Daughtry The Morgan horse has been the backbone of my lesson program, so trustworthy, dependable. Kojak, Gal, and Tommy have put me where I am today. They have done it safely, always patient, at exactly 25 min Kojak knows to come in and get his kisses then he goes back out for the last 5 minutes and that's the truth!! An instructor can only be as good as their horses, so I must be great cause my beginner horses (all Morgan's) are the best on earth. It gives the rider a safe confident basis to build on and move on. 2 Virginia-Carolina Morgan Horse Club Newsletter Issue #7 Page VCMHC Year End Meeting /Awards Banquet The Virginia Carolinas Morgan Horse Club held its annual meeting and awards banquet on November 15 at the Renaissance at North Hills in Raleigh, NC. The Southern States Horse Show committee met first in the afternoon, followed by the general meeting of the club. New board members were elected to serve two-year terms-, Nancy Warren and Mary Buchanan. Next came the social hour and the very nice meal. A video collage of club members and their Morgans was shown at this time. Guest speaker Andy Illes was unable to attend due to illness but sent a wonderful and touching video of her photography. Club president Mary Daughtry gave a summary of the club s many activities in Pete and Gael Jaeger were recognized for their many years of service to the club with the Barbara Beaumont Cole Service Award. Next the high point awards were given out. Elizabeth Abernathy always does a great job picking out the prizes that accompany the challenge trophies. This very active club is already making big plans for Benjamin Lockhart Ken Swanson accepting for Mrs. Pugh Gael and Pete Jaeger were honored with the Barbara Beaumont Cole Service Award From Nancy Warren- Don t forget to send me your Southern States feed seals (proof of purchase) to Nancy Warren, 1041 White Memorial Church Rd, Willow Springs, NC I will redeem these for cash to fill the club s coffers!
