2 Worthy President s Message My Brothers and Sisters During this busy season of the year, lots of great stuff has been happening at our Aerie home. Both the Children s and Adult Halloween Parties were a huge success! Some terrific costumes, great munchies, great music thanks to Elvis (Mike Lucero)! Planning, decorating - great job by all! A very special Veterans Day tribute was orchestrated by Glen and Elaine Mares. At dawn, they raised the American flag in front of the Aerie and at dusk, it was ceremoniously lowered. Any family member who submitted info on their special Veteran, that Veteran was honored. Elaine also prepared food which was complimentary to our Veterans. Glen is one of our many proud veterans and we own them our deepest gratitude for their service. Please check the various flyers in this edition to get details on Christmas festivities that are planned: Adult Party, Children s Party, Brunch and a very special New Years Eve Gala!! Visitations throughout the State for Aerie/ anniversaries are not planned during December, with one exception. Pikes Peak #143 holds their anniversary celebration the first Sunday in December! They graciously combine the typical anniversary with festivities of the Season, so everyone exchanges cards, gifts and holiday joy. It s a great time! Planning meetings for Spring Conference at Thornton will not be held in December so that everyone can enjoy holiday activities, but in January we will resume these important meetings, so we can stay on track towards a successful conference. Our next meeting date will be posted soon. To all of our Eagle Brothers and Sisters, warmest wishes for a peaceful and joyous Christmas from my wife, Sandy, and me. God Bless... Fraternally, Eldon Younger Worthy President sandymusicnotes@yahoo.com
3 The Fraternal Order of Eagles: Greetings Brothers and Sisters, I hope you all had a great Halloween. All the kids looked so cute in some awesome costumes this year. I would like to give a shout out to Darlene Vigil and Tootsie Eason for doing such a great job on the kid s party. I would like to thank all who came out and supported the adult Halloween party. A lot of planning went into this party and I would like to acknowledge Donna Solano and committee for doing a fantastic job. We are heading into a very busy time both in our personal lives and at the club. We will be having a Christmas potluck and white elephant gift exchange (not to exceed $10.00) for all members on December 8 th, 2017 at 6pm. I hope you will all plan on attending as it is always a good time. The kids Christmas party will be held on December 16 th, 2017 from 2-5 downstairs so plan on bringing the kiddos to see Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause. I would like to invite all auxiliary members to my Christmas Brunch and gift exchange (not to exceed $15.00) on December 16 th, 2017 from 11-2pm. I will post a signup sheet at the club so I know how much food to prepare. I look forward to all of us coming together and celebrating this special time of year. The spring conference planning is well underway. March will be here before we know it and we desperately need more help. Please see a member of the Aerie or to help on one of the many committees. In closing I would like to thank our very own Elaine Mares for putting together the first annual Veterans Day Flag Memorial. Such a wonderful way to honor our loved ones who have served and are currently serving this great country. There were 31 flags proudly waving in front of the club and $ raised for charity. Lunch was provided by Elaine and Dixie and served to all our vets thank you ladies awesome job!! Fraternally, Sandra Herrera Madam President szherrera2900@gmail.com

5 THORNTON EAGLE VETERANS SPECIAL VETERAN S DAY HONORING In honor of our many Veterans from Thornton #3226, family and friends, Glen and Elaine Mares prepared a Special Tribute for them. Prior to Veteran s Day, many members provided information about a special Veteran they wanted to honor. Glen and Elaine donated the flags and prepared the special messages. The messages were each attached to their own United States flag. On Veteran s Day, Glen, Elaine, Darlene and Anthony Vigil, and Suzy and Andy Ott arrived at the Club bright and early and placed these special flags in the lawn. At sunrise, 6:41 am, 31 flags were on the lawn and the national anthem was then played. This beautiful display remained there throughout the day. At dusk, the flags were removed and are available to keep for those who provided a special message. This was a special tribute to the brave men and women being honored for their service to their country. We extend our sincere thanks to Glen and Elaine for their efforts to put this beautiful tribute together. God Bless.. CHRISTMAS TREES!!! We will be giving away fresh cut Christmas trees this year. They will be available for pick up on December 12 at the club. There is a sign up sheet posted at the club or you can Ted Chavez to let him know. His is tchavez@thorntoneagles.com.
