2 On This Day in History 1844 The University of Notre Dame received its charter from the state of Indiana The first NFL Super Bowl was played. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of U.S. President Ronald Reagan declared the third Monday of January as a national holiday honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. s birthday Wikipedia was launched.
3 Crayola ColorCycle Grissom Patriots are collecting used markers and highlighters (any brand) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Green collection boxes will be in each classroom and on the bench outside the Commons. The program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!
4 Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.

6 Jazz Band Jazz Band members rehearse every Wednesday at Prairie View from 4:00-5:15.

9 Zumba Club Zumba Club still has some openings for members this year! Zumba is a dance club where you will be taught a different style of dance at each meeting. No prior dance experience is required. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and in Ms. Walker s room (Room 111) and are due Friday, Jan. 18 th.
10 Step-Up Day Friday is Step-Up Day for eighth graders. All students and staff going to Andrew must wear their tie-dyed shirt that day!
11 How Much? The cost is $25 and that includes a t-shirt, food, presenter and FUN! Questions?? No problem! Ask Mrs. Luttrell (Grissom) or Mrs. Malinowski (PV)! Snowflake Who? ALL grade level Students from Prairie View & Grissom What? Snowflake gives you an opportunity to work as a team and find alternatives to dealing with the pressures of middle school. It also is a place where you can let loose and have FUN!!!! When? Permission slips are due to the office by: FRIDAY, February 8 Snowflake will be held on: FRIDAY, February 22 Where? 12 Chess Club Permission forms for Chess Club are in the rack outside the Main Office. Please return them to Mrs. Harris in Room 164. Participation is limited to the first 30 students returning their forms. Chess Club will meet Thursdays after school, beginning January 24 th.

14 Declamation Tryouts for Declamation will be held after school today in Room 118. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and need to be turned in to Mrs. Prieto in Room 118.
15 Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. There is a collection box on the bench outside the Commons for your donations.
16 Attention PE Classes! All PE classes will be taking the Pickle Ball written test on Wednesday. Study guides can be found on the KSD140 website under PE teachers websites.
17 Girls Volleyball Good luck to the Lady Patriots as they travel today to Orland Junior High!
18 Hot Lunch Tomorrow is Hot Lunch! Please remember to thank the parents serving you. Without them, there would be no Hot Lunch program.

Please be sure to bring your work with you! You will need to sign in and stay the entire time. If you are a bus rider, please remember to sign up for the activity bus that day!

24 Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved 10,263 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. So far this year, we have saved 6,421 bottles! Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles!
