It seemed to fly by and already some of our snowbirds are returning north. This will be my last newsletter as my term is complete after the From the Helm April meeting. I wish your new Commodore and Executive Board the very best and hope they find their terms to be as rewarding as mine. It has been my pleasure and Tournament News honor to serve as your Commodore for the last four years. Minutes From Last A great time was had by all this past Saturday at Little Palm Island. Perfect weather Meeting again. Thank you Vice Commodore for putting this event together. You do an excellent job making this trip seamless. Photo Album KCB Day was a big success for the Club and thank you to all who helped. Don t miss the April 1st meeting as Tom and Cindy Casey are our chefs and always put on a great meal. 2 KCBF&BC in the St Patrick's Day Parade Minutes From Meeting March 2016 The March meeting of the Fishing & Boating Club was called to order on March 4, 2016 at 6:30 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Commodore Bill Knickman then stated the purpose of the Club which is to promote fishing, boating and good fellowship among all members. The minutes of the February 5th meeting were accepted on a motion by Rene Warn which was seconded by Ralph Girkins and passed by the members. The Commodore congratulated everyone who made this year s Clambake the very best ever. We had over 100 volunteers. Thank you all. Treasurer Chick Lees delivered the February Treasurer s Report. As of January 31, 2016 the account balance was $9, Accounting for deposits of $23, and expenses of $13,515.76, the new balance as of February 29, 2016 was $20, However, this cash balance does not include the $7,275 that needs to be remitted to Little Palm Island for the upcoming brunch. A motion to accept the report was made by Ralph Girkins and seconded by Bob Crouse and passed by the members. Our Treasurer next brought to the attention of the members that the Club was being audited by the State of Florida concerning the payment of sales tax. We have hired an outside accountant to work with us and respond to the audit. Tonight s dinner is provided by Mary Conley. Mary works for Cheney Brothers Food who supplied some of the food and disposable items for the Clambake. Bonnie Polk made the salad while Rick and Janice Buy provided the dessert. Thanks to all of them. I would also like to thank Joey and Karen Raspe for bartending; Ron and Kitty Sutton for handling the sale of the 50/50 tickets; Dee Settles and Dean Williamson for overseeing the check in process; and all the people who help set up, serve dinner, tear down and clean up. Our other volunteers tonight are also greatly appreciated, namely, those members who are selling tickets to the end of season dinner dance as well as those members handling the distribution of the gift certificates. Vice Commodore Bob Warn informed everyone that so far 73 people signed up and paid for the Little Palm Island Brunch which will take place on Saturday, March 26, The price is $97.00 per person (all inclusive). If you are interested in attending the brunch, there are still places available, please see Rene at the side table to reserve a place. April Seminar 5:15 p.m. before meeting Division Commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flares Director at Large Mike Alexander stated that the Clambake tee shirts were a huge success. Thanks to Jenee Zaydon for designing them. Fund Raising Chairman Tom Alferes thanked everyone for their efforts in making the Clambake a huge success. We broke all records for monies raised for the Wheel Barrow of Cheer and the 50/50 tickets. Tom then recognized past Commodores Joe Schmidt, Bob Willey and Chet Dunn. He reminded members to pick up their gift certificate if they hadn t already done so at the last meeting. Tournament Director John Fruhmorgen first thanked everyone who contributed items to the Silent Auction. Also, Jim Teague donated his prize money from his last tournament win to the Club. John then presented the prize money to the following winning anglers Jim Stewart, Dave Burnett (two time winner), Ron Teke, Charles Mazzella, Mike Alexander, James Crist and John Luciano The winners of the Sparky s Fish for Food Mangrove Tournament were Geza Zoller (1st place), Joe Schmidt (2nd place) and James Christ (3rd place). Finally, the winners of the 3rd Generation Plumbing Offshore Mix were James Crist (1st place) and Ron Teke (2nd place). Upcoming Tournaments include The March Madness Inshore/Offshore Tournament and the Havana Jacks Tournament. John Albin is leading in the Skinny Water Fishing Challenge. Old Business: Commodore Bill Knickman then informed the group that this year s Clambake was a tremendous success. Approximately 525 people attended the Clambake. The 50/50 made a net profit of $1300 while the Wheel Barrow of Cheer netted $1640. The sale of tee shirts brought in $510. Thanks to everyone for their support and help. Past Commodore Joe Schmidt thanked everyone who donated to the Blood Mobile. 24 pints of blood were donated that day. As a result of the great turnout, the Blood Mobile will be coming to Key Colony Beach more frequently next season.
3 New Business: Our Commodore thanked Chief Robert Gonzales of the Marathon Coast Guard for tonight s excellent seminar. KCB Day is this Sunday. We will be hosting the world famous Barracuda Races and the Wheel Barrow of Cheer raffle. We can use your help in setting up the tents and then breaking everything down after the event. Please volunteer to help. Also, look for us in the KCB parade. We will now take up our annual collection for Relay for Life. Please be generous The end of season dinner dance will take place on March 18th at Marble Hall. Tickets are $35.00 which includes a prime rib and fish dinner with side dishes catered by Havana Jacks as well as an open bar and music by Dave Scott. Past Commodore Joe Schmidt next asked for nominations for the Executive Board for the upcoming two year term. There were no nominations from the floor and no other members volunteered to serve on the Board. Therefore, the current slate of Executive Board members include the following: Tom Alferes Commodore, Bob Warn Vice Commodore, Chick Lees Treasurer, Ron & Tania Teke Membership Secretary, Mike Alexander Director at Large, Joey Raspe Fundraising Chairman, John Fruhmorgen Tournament Director and Marian Buccafurni Secretary. Elections will be held at the April meeting. Past Commodore Chet Dunn reminded members of the Sunrise/Sunset Cruise on March 23rd. Let him know if you are interested in participating. Past Commodore Joe Schmidt asked members who have pickup trucks to see him about setting up on KCB Day. Flo Roseboro updated everyone about the need for more pickup trucks at the end of the Clambake to bring things back to the storage facility. A motion to adjourn was made by Joe Schmidt and seconded by Rene Warn. The winner of the 50/50 prize was Karen Raspe. Please stay after the meeting to help clean up and put the chairs away.
