1 The Paw Print Litchfield Community Schools October 2017 K-12 newsletter written for students by students Homeward Bound Books By: Julia Chamberlain This year Litchfield Elementary School will be kicking off a new program that is called the Homeward Bound Book Club. It will be for students in grades 1-5. The primary goal is to get all the children to be more involved in reading. Each student will be able to pick out a book at his or her reading level with the help of Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Eichler. Students are able to take the books home to their parents so they can read the books together. For more information please contact Mrs. Shaw or Mrs. Eichler. 2 I AM Students in Mrs. Miller s art classes have been working diligently on their I Am projects. The students had to describe themselves by selecting different colors for their project. Each student created a unique poster with personalized character traits. Sports Highlights By: Destiney Walston As the volleyball team continues to progress, the Lady Terriers volleyball season record so far is 4-4. The team works hard to accomplish their goals and look forward to become a better team. Maddy Bevard 20 Maddy enjoys playing volleyball and has played since 6th grade. What interests her the most is the quick pace. She is the setter for the LHS varsity team. Noah Smith with his Mom, Tenysha. Varsity Football By: Heather Demkowski & Kaytlin Johnson Even though the season for the football team hasn't been perfect they are getting better.there are a lot of hard parts and rough patches that the team has to work on and it's a hard game to play. For senior Noah Smith, football is more than a sport it's one of the things he loves the most. He has been playing flag football since 2nd grade and started tackle football in 6th and has played ever since. Noah says the hardest part about football is remembering all of the plays and the part he is best at is running the ball. Noah plays quarterback,
3 running back, wide receiver, slot receiver, cornerback, safety, kick return, and punt return. Sophomore Ian Dillon has been part of the Litchfield varsity team for two years now. His wins and losses have shaped him into the football player he is today. According to him the easiest thing about football is making mistakes and the hardest is knowing that you have done something wrong. This season may be hard, but it isn't impossible. - Ian Dillon Athlete of the week! By: Destiney Walston September 11, 2017 Hunter Duke 86 yards passing, 59 yards rushing, 1 interception, 1 passing touchdown and a 67 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. He also added 5 solo tackles on defense. Senior Allie Vanous has been playing football for Litchfield for two years now. She enjoys playing because she can be herself out on the field and she stays true to herself and her team. Allie s hardest thing to see throughout the season is watching her teammates get hurt, Allie personally enjoys her time out on the field with her brothers doing what they love most. Allie says everyone needs to have more self motivation if we want to break the streak. September 26, 2017 Eighth grader Colton Seybert set a new eighth grade record and earned medals in his last two cross country invitationals. Congratulations, Colton! Riddle! What did one leaf say to the other?
4 Teacher of the Month We are excited to announce that Mr. Mathews is our September Teacher of the Month! Mr. Mathews teaches 6th - 11th grade science. While he is brand new to Litchfield, he's been teaching for 23 years! He says his favorite part of the job is that there is something new every day. Congrats, Mr. Mathews! Support Staff of the Month We are excited to announce Ms. Keely Golden as our support staff member of the month! Keely has taken on several new roles and has worked hard to learn each role. She never complains, but instead always has constructive feedback, and is looking for ways to improve. She also asks questions to improve both her positions and others that she helps lead. We re very fortunate to have Keely Golden at our school!
