Fun things are happening at BHS! Photo and Video Scavenger Hunt-teams are collecting pictures and videos all around the county-final submission date is September 21. Water Balloon Volleyball Tournament-Wolverine Cup teams are competing during Seminar- What a SPLASH it has been! Contributions of Excellence nominations have been pouring in, keep up the amazing things you are doing! Remember teams get points for attending home games and events, show up and help your team out, extra points are awarded for attending JV games, soccer games, and Cross Country meets! Current rankings Black team is in the lead 280 points Purple team is 2 nd with 195 points Silver team is in 3 rd with 180 points Student ID s Students have received their Picture ID s. We ask that they have the ID with them at all times while at school or school events. Juniors and Senior who are eligible to leave campus must have their student ID with them to leave. We will only replace Junior or Senior ID cards one time at a cost of $10.

2 Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Forsthoff What are some of your hobbies? I have been playing guitar for 14 years and it is a huge passion of mine. I also mountain bike, rock climb, and snowboard often. All of the good outdoorsy stuff. What does Coloradical mean to you? To be a friendly person that enjoys thin air on top of a mountain, who does not post 15 pictures to Instagram/Facebook on the way up. What is your favorite thing about BHS? The students and staff. Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful! If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? Vietnam or Greece. There is amazing rock climbing along the coast in both countries. The cultures are also very different from ours. What is your favorite sport to watch? Football or College Basketball What was your high school nickname? Forsthoff. Actually, more people called me by my last name in high school than my first. What was your favorite subject in high school? History. What colleges did you attend? Colorado State University, go Rams! What is your favorite quote? Sometimes we live no particular way but our own WOLVERINE OF THE WEEK: Wyatt Whitmer Wyatt is a fantastic student who keeps his high GPA while taking both AP and honors classes. He volunteers with National Honor Society and Knowledge Bowl, among other organizations. He is a student-athlete and is the student representative for the BSD GT task force. Way to go Wyatt!!!

3 Counselors Corner Peggy whiteman & Amy Miglinas PSAT/NMSQT The national test date for the PSAT/NMSQT is Wednesday October 19 at 8:00 am. All Juniors at BHS will be taking this test. If your son/daughter is a Sophomore or a Freshman and would like to take this exam, please contact Mrs. Miglinas by September 30 Galileo Testing Galileo is the new testing platform used for benchmark progress monitoring; it is replacing STAR. Our testing window is in the next two weeks for English, Math, and Science. If you have questions, please feel free to call the counseling office. Fort Lewis College Campus Visit Seniors who are curious about attending FLC next fall can participate in a campus visit on Thursday September 22. Mr. Hanhardt Wolverine Activities Updates Rob Dean - Activities Director Friends of Rachel from Sponsor Jennifer Leithauser Bayfield High School FOR Club is busy planning our big fundraiser for the year! On Saturday Oct. 1 we will host our 3rd annual Wolverine Dash 5K. This race is sure to be bigger and better than ever before! In addition to a fun color run we will have a kid's course, a bouncy house, live music and fun games for kids. Run as a team of 4 or more and you will receive discounted registration. National Honor Society from Sponsor Tara Henderson In honor of Patriot Day and National Day of Service, members of the BHS National Honor Society cleaned Highway 160 from mile marker 99 to 101. Students are also in the process of planning the upcoming NHS Induction Ceremony for new members.

4 Wolverine Athletics Updates Cheer from Coach Aimee Whitmer Your BHS Cheerleaders are holding a cheer camp for ages 4-13 the last week of September. It's a great way to get your little cheerleader out on the track for a whole quarter with us and learn some new cheers! Check out our flier at the end of Wolverine Press! Football from Coach Gary Heide The Bayfield Wolverines football team had a very exciting weekend. Greeted with warm temps, a superb high school and a rowdy crowd, the Wolverines went on to beat the Aztec Tigers Their next game will not be until Sept. 23rd vs the Durango Demons, in Durango on their new field. The JV had a great game just getting edged out by the Aztec Tigers JV. The take on the Ignacio Bobcats in Ignacio on Sept. 19th at 5:00pm for their next game. Cross Country from Coach Josh Walton The Bayfield XC team has gotten to run on one of the hardest courses and the fastest courses in the last two weeks as the times will show below. Two weeks ago the Bayfield Wolverines went to Leadville and ran at 10,000 feet. The course had a lot of uphill, some downhill, and a few flat stretches on the course. The boys took 5 th out of 16 teams and the girls took 12 th out of 16 teams. Sloan Mazur and Elco Garcia both received metals for placing in the top 20. On Saturday the Bayfield Wolverines went to Alamosa and ran on a much flatter course at 7500 feet. The boys took 13 th out of 19 teams and the girls took 11 th out of 17 teams. This was a much faster race with all of the athletes running their fastest time this season. This meet was also very competitive as both the A Boys State Champions and the 4A Boys State Champions were in attendance. 5 Girls Basketball from Coach Lana Killough The open gym Schedule for Girls basketball is: Sept. 20, Sept. 27, and October 11 Right now. It will be from 4-6 in the Main Gym. We also have Tailgating before the Varsity football game on September 9 th, and regular concessions during the football game on September 30 th.
