1 USD 224 Clifton-Clyde Eagle Express October, 2017 It is the mission of USD 224 to provide a positive learning experience for all students to achieve their highest potential as productive members of a global society. News from the Superintendent! USD 224 Patrons, The end of the first quarter of the school year will end this month while this newsletter is out (Oct. 20 to be exact) and wow, what a great quarter it s been. Our students have had many successes already from the fields and courts, to the classrooms and academic competitions. As was published in the August Eagle Express Newsletter we will be doing some upgrades at Clifton- Clyde Middle School in the near future. Beginning the week of October 16 th demolition will begin in the southeast corner of the middle school gym; on both the ground level and balcony level. Sets of bleachers will be removed at both levels and a hole will be cut in the balcony floor to make way for a chair lift. This chair lift will be able to aid in the transportation of students, parents, and community members up to the second story of CCMS. We are all super excited about this project. However, since it is happening during school time a couple of changes will have to take place. CCMS basketball has two home games to start the year (November 6 th and 9 th, respectively). BOTH of those games will be played at CCHS as that s the week the lift company is scheduled to come and do their part of the installation. CCMS has another home game the following week and no decision has been made on where those games will be played yet. Continue to keep watch on other changes that have to take place during this time of construction. All three district buildings hosted Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 9 from noon until 7pm. There was great turn-out at all three buildings. At CCHS this time around we tested out doing conferences that were student led. At our student led conferences the students presented to the parents their goals, their progress towards their goals, shared their grade graphs, and many other things about their first quarter progress. Having the students led their own conference allows them the opportunity to share how things are going and take more ownership in their own learning process. By all accounts heading this direction for conferences was a great success. We ll continue fine-tuning this practice for the high school and do it again in the spring. Look for student led conferences to possibly expand to other grade levels when spring comes around. There are many more upgrades, etc, that are in the works. I always love to tell people the story of USD 224 and what s going on. Please feel free to call me with any questions at any time. Sincerely, Art Baker-USD 224 Superintendent -CCHS Principal

2 BIG Numbers for Early Eagle Storytime The first couple sessions of Early Eagle Storytime have had great attendance. At the September 15th session there were 47 total students ages 0-4. Thank you to everyone that s been attending! If you haven t feel free to attend any and all sessions. What is Early Eagle Storytime? Early Eagle Storytime is a community program that allows kids to gain exposure to and practice early childhood academic and social skills in a structured setting with other kids of similar age. This outreach program is available free of charge to any child 0-4 years of age (until they are enrolled in our preschool). Kids work under the direction of a certified Early Childhood Teacher completing hands-on activities, listening to stories, to help make practicing these skills fun. Call CCGS with any questions you may have! 2017 Fall Homecoming CCHS Fall Homecoming festivities took place the week of September On Friday there was a homecoming parade through downtown Clyde with a pep-rally on the city lot downtown. Both of those events were well attended. The culminating event for the week was the homecoming crowning and football game vs. Rural Vista. The Eagles were victorious Kelly Lange was named Homecoming Queen and Homecoming King was Ian Bergstrom. Ian Bergstrom also got his first career carry for a touchdown! Congrats Fall 2017 Homecoming King and Queen Ian Bergstrom and Kelly Lange Eagle Express is a publication of the USD 224 Superintendent. Feel free to contact him at: 616 N. High, Clyde abaker@usd224.com Look for this publication to come out the second Thursday of every month.

Two New Inductees to Clifton-Clyde HS National Honor Society On October 1st a ceremony was held to induct two new members into Clifton -Clyde HS National Honor Society. Both of these students were chosen because they demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Congratulations to both of these outstanding young men. Randy Nadler Presents at CCMS Randy Nadler presented to the kindergarteners through 7th graders on October 3. He shared that Thailand is a Southeast Asian country. It's known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. In Bangkok, the capital, an ultramodern cityscape rises next to quiet canalside communities and the iconic temples of Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew).
