2 THIS MONTH IN WESTERN HISTORY On October 21st, 1867, the Medicine Lodge Treaty is signed near Medicine Lodge, Kansas. It requires Native American Plains tribes to relocate to a reservation in western Oklahoma. What a great match! Once again the annual HELLFIRE match of the Jackson Hole Regulators did not disappoint at all! As each year passes, more and more folks sign up, the competition is better and better, and those award buckles get nicer and nicer. Congratulations to Bent Barrel Betty for defending her overall Ladies title from Also, it was a pleasure to watch Prestidigitator in action. He sure looked smooth taking the Men's title. In fact, that was probably my favorite part of the match this year - watching folks I'd never seen like 'Tator, Phantom, and Nonstop to name a few. Of course, seeing some of our out of town friends like Possum, Dew R. Dye and especially Tres Equis had great matches, too. Also, seeing our locals like Free at Last, Doc Cooper, Macon A. Longshot and Irish Leadslinger bring home champion buckles is always good. Tough to pick a favorite part this year. Two things stick out. For one I'm glad I got to shoot through on Saturday and avoid Noah's flood on Sunday! Secondly, at the awards banquet when that lucky rascal Hammer Rock held the winning ticket for the.22 rifle, his dad tried to get him to donate it back to the prize pool. Hammer's response? "No Way!" Thirdly, let me go with seeing my good friend Irish Leadslinger inducted into the Jedi Gunfighters. I'll say this to all you other Jedi - she is a wonderful addition to your ranks and she was genuinely touched by the honor. The side matches this year seemed to be better attended than any I have ever seen. Folks must have thought they were good ones based on the amount of ammo that was burned up. I heard several people looking around to make sure they had enough left for the match. Got a lot of good comments from folks on the stage setup, too. We don't put our targets way out yonder or try to get too tricky, but it's nice to have some good variety to the shooting contd. The band leader sweep, the Nevada sweeps, gunfighter friendly stages, etc. are all little things that make for a great experience.
