1 Page 1 May Commodore s Report Mike Haistings May Calendar 5/5 Opening Day 5/9 Board May is already here and we just kicked off The Opening Day of boating season Saturday May 5 th. It was a great time and it looked to me that everyone was enjoying themselves and the nice weather we had. The club looked great, thanks to Gary Sheneman and all the members that came to the work party on the Saturday before Opening Day to get the club spiffed up for the big weekend. Dick Paine and the past Commodores started our Opening Day celebration off with a nice breakfast, as always we had plenty of great food. Dick Paine and Jack Excell did a stand up job coordinating the flag ceremony and lining up the Sea Scouts to perform the flag raising duties. Jim Barrett did his usual outstanding job as the MC during the flag ceremony. I want to personally thank Jim, Dick, and Jack for their efforts in coordinating and leading a great ceremony. I also want to thank Joe and Kathy Ornelas for hosting the Officers boat for the parade. All the officers represented the club smartly with their white uniforms, at attention, saluting the judge s and the Seattle Yacht Club officials during the parade. After the parade the officer s boat made our way over to Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club to do some mingling between clubs. Meydenbauer was a great host to all!!! Saturday evening kicked off with a Mexican Fiesta Dinner, thank you Bill and Peggy Allen and crew (Dick & Jodie Paine, Barry & Marcia Ellingson, Neil & Laurence Kruger, Pat Hansen, Dan & Rochelle Gray and Ron & Bess Bell) for great food which seemed appropriate given it was Cinco de Mayo. We finish up the night with dancing to the hits from the 60 s, 70 s, 80 s, and 90 s from DJ Simon. As you can see, putting on our opening day ceremony takes a lot of work and lots of help is needed. I would like to thank everyone that participated to make it a successful event, I know there are many more that I haven t mentioned but I simply couldn t keep track of all the workers. I want to extend my appreciation to the Opening Day Committee and Mike and Lisa for a wonderful weekend of celebration. This past month was a hectic one for many other members of the club as we prepared for opening day. This included an exhausting work party on April 28th. I was overwhelmed by your response and remain in awe of the dedication, hard work and creativity demonstrated by everyone who turned out to beautify and repair our club house and docks. We tackled everything from tile repair to gardening with great enthusiasm and flare and I couldn't be more thankful for the wonderful effort by everyone. We also had a contingent of diligent members cruise to Hat Island and ready our docks just in time for our cruising season. All in all, we accomplished a great deal last month and I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. As part of our work party I also performed a walkthrough of the facilities and removed a truckload of unused, broken and unneeded equipment from the galley and apartment. All told, it cost PSYC nearly $200 to properly dispose of unnecessary computers, TVs, printers, coffee makers, and other equipment that was "donated" to the club. In the future if you are considering donating used equipment please be aware that you must have permission from the board to do so. We owe it to ourselves to keep our clubhouse clean and organized and we cannot continue to be a storage facility for unwanted items. As always, if you notice anything needing attention or have an idea on how we can improve our clubhouse and facilities please let me know. We have a wonderful season of boating to look forward to and Donna and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the fun at PSYC. Here's to a wonderful 2007 boating season!

3 Page 3 Rear Commodore s Report Kevin Haistings Opening Day is a great social event, with so much of note. It is Seattle s boating event of the year. Our big social events were the Opening Day dinner on the dock on Friday, the Opening Day ceremonies Saturday morning and the Saturday evening dinner and dance in the club. A great time was had by all. GAFIA has been cancelled for this Spring. Not enough interest in going to Lake Chelan this time of the year. We will try something in the Fall. Fleet Captain s Report - Chris Kullmann Hi fellow boaters, much is happening. Opening Day is here and was a great time. I am sure the weather will be there for us. The Tacoma cruise was a success. Bob and Judy Quick entertained 9 boats and some drive ins and about 28 people. The Memorial Day cruise to Anacortes May is fast approaching. Mike and Lisa Haistings have booked 13 boats and are looking for more. Jerry and Larry have the Hat Island Golf cruise June 8-10 and I am sure it will be an interesting weekend. This will be followed by the Gig Harbor cruise hosted by the Bells, June Please contact the captains of these and future cruise so they have an accurate count.
